Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 発明の分野 本発明は、生理用ナプキン、パンティライナー、およ
び成人用失禁パッドなどの吸収体にパターンを型押しす
ると同時に、吸収体上で周辺部シールを形成する方法お
よび機器に関する。
発明の背景 月経分泌物、尿、および糞便などの体内からの液体の
吸収に構成されるすべての方法および多様な吸収体は、
言うまでもなく周知である。特に好まれる１つの吸収体
は、Emenakerらに発行された「三等分生理用ナプキン
（Trisection Sanitary Napkin）」と題する米国特許
第5,460,623号に記載される。別の特に好まれる吸収体
は、Letha M.Hinesらの名前で1995年３月23日に公表さ
れた「コアが上向き凸状形状に事前に配置された生理用
ナプキン（Sanitary Napkin Having Core Predispo
sed to Convex Upward Configuation）」と題するP
CT公開番号第WO94/10045号に記載される。
後者出版物は、生理用ナプキンを好まれる方法で曲げ
ることを可能にする１本または複数本の弱点の線（line
s of weakness）のある生理用ナプキンの提供を記載
する。弱点の線は、離散した型押しの場所（sites）を
備えることがある。このような吸収体の製造において、
多くの場合、全体的な生理用ナプキン内で弱点の線（複
数の場合がある）を形成するために使用される型押しパ
ターンの登録を達成する上で、特に生理用ナプキンが高
速製造動作で作られているときに、困難に遭遇する。
したがって、本発明の目的は、その中に型押しのパタ
ーンを有する生理用ナプキンのような吸収体を作るため
の方法および機器を提供することである。本発明の第２
の目的とは、特に生理用ナプキンが高速製造動作で作ら
れているときに、型押しパターンの登録で高い制御度を
提供するこのような方法および機器を提供することであ
る。
本発明のこれらの目的およびそれ以外の目的は、次の
説明を参照して検討される場合、および添付図面に関係
して解釈される場合に、さらに容易に明らかになるだろ
う。
発明の概要 本発明は、生理用ナプキン、パンティライナー、およ
び成人用失禁パッドなどの吸収体にパターンを型押しす
ると同時に、吸収体上で周辺部シールを形成する方法お
よび機器を目的としている。
好ましくは、本発明の方法は、 構成要素が、構成要素の内の少なくともいくつかの中
にパターンを型押しし、構成要素の少なくともいくつか
の周辺部の回りで少なくとも部分的に周辺部シールを形
成することに備えて配列された、吸収体に構成要素を提
供する工程と、 加熱されたシーリング部材がその中に型押し面を形成
させ、型押し面が加熱されたシーリング部材の引っ込ん
だ部分の中にあり、型押しを形成するためにそこから伸
びる少なくとも１つの隆起した部分を備える、加熱され
たシーリング部材およびアンビル面を備える、本発明の
機器を提供する工程と、 吸収体の構成要素を加熱されたシーリング部材とアン
ビル面の間に配置し、構成要素が加熱されたシーリング
部材とアンビル面の間にある間に構成要素に圧力をかけ
ることによって、吸収体の構成要素の中で周辺部シール
を同時に型押し、形成し、その結果、加熱されたシーリ
ング部材が、構成要素の少なくともいくつかの周辺部の
回りで少なくとも部分的に周辺部シールを形成し、型押
し面が構成要素の少なくともいくつかの中に型押しのパ
ターンを形成する工程と、を備える。

発明の詳細な説明 本発明は、生理用ナプキン、パンティライナー、およ
び成人用失禁パッドなどの吸収体にパターンを型押しす
るのと同時に、吸収体上ので周辺部シールを形成する方
法および機器を目的とする。
図１は、本発明のプロセスおよび機器を使用して作ら
れる使い捨て吸収体、つまり生理用ナプキンの１つの好
まれる実施例を示す。生理用ナプキン20は、液体浸透性
の体接着面つまり「体側面」20Aと、液体不浸透性の衣
服側面20Bという２つの面を有する。生理用ナプキン20
は、その体側面20Aから見られるように、図１に図示さ
れる。図２に図示されるように、生理用ナプキン20は、
基本的には液体浸透性トップシート22、液体不浸透性バ
ックシート24、およびトップシート22とバックシート24
の間に配置される吸収体コア26を備える。
生理用ナプキン20は、主要な長手方向中心線Ｌおよび
主要な横断方向中心線Ｔという２本の中心線を有する。
ここで用いられる「長手方向」という用語は、生理用ナ
プキン20が装着されたときに、立っている装着者を左半
身と右半身とに二分する垂直平面と一般的に一直線にな
る（例えばほぼ平行になる）生理用ナプキン20の平面に
おける線、軸または方向のことを言う。ここで用いられ
る「横断方向」または「側面方向」という用語は、相互
交換可能であり、通常は長手方向に垂直である生理用ナ
プキン20の平面内にある線、軸または方向のことを言
う。生理用ナプキン20は、いっしょに生理用ナプキン20
の周辺部32を形成する、２つの間隔を置いて配置された
長手方向縁部28、２つの間隔を置いて配置された横断方
向縁部または端縁部（つまり「端」）を備える。
生理用ナプキン20は、相対的に厚い、中間厚さ、相対
的に薄い、または非常に薄いつまり「超」薄を含む任意
の厚さになりえる。図１に図示される生理用ナプキン20
の実施例は、1995年２月３日に提出された米国特許出願
番号第08/383,550号（PCT公開番号WO第94/10045号、Hin
esら）に記載されるもののように機能することができ
る、型押し34のパターンが備えられる、Emenakerらに発
行された「三等分生理用ナプキン（Trisection Sanita
ry Napkin）」という題の米国特許第5,460,623号に記
載されるものに類似した超薄生理用ナプキンの例となる
ことが意図される。図示される生理用ナプキンは、単に
１つの好まれる実施例であるにすぎず、本発明は、この
タイプの吸収体を製作すること、あるいは図面に示され
る特殊な形状を有することに限られないことが理解され
なければならない。例えば、また、生理用ナプキン20に
は、型押しのパターンに加えて、または型押しのパター
ンの代替として、Snellerらに発行された、米国特許第
5,234,422号および第5,308,346号に記載されるもののよ
うな型押しされた溝が具備されることがある。
図１に図示される生理用ナプキン20の多様な構成要素
に適切な材料は、Emenakerらに発行された米国特許第5,
460,623号およびここに参照して組み込まれる特許出版
物に詳細に記載される。好ましくは、少なくともトップ
シートとバックシートを含む材料は、熱可塑性である。
特に好まれる実施例では、トップシート22は、1982年８
月３日にRadelに発行された米国特許第4,342,314号およ
び1984年７月31日にAhrらに発行された米国特許第4,46
3,045号を受けて製造される、ドリウィーブ（DRI−WEAV
E）という商標で、オハイオ州シンシナティ（Cinsinnat
i,Ohio）のザ・プロクター＆ギャンブル社（The Proct
er ＆ Gamble Company）によって生理用ナプキンの
上に着けて販売されている開口熱可塑性フィルムを含
む。１つの特に好まれる実施例では、吸収体コア26は、
Emenakerらに発行された米国特許第5,460,623号に記載
される吸収体コアを含む。吸収体コア26は、好ましく
は、吸収体ゲル化材料粒子36を備える。バックシート24
は、好ましくはポリエチレン・フィルムを備える。さら
に、生理用ナプキン20が、トップシート22と吸収体コア
26の間に配置されるオプションの二次トップシート38を
備えるのが好ましい。
図２に示されるように、生理用ナプキン20は、トップ
シート22とバックシート24が、吸収体コア26のものより
通常大きい長さと幅の寸法であるサンドイッチ形状で組
み立てられる。トップシート22とバックシート24は、吸
収体コア26の縁部を越えて伸長し、シール40に沿ってい
っしょに接合され、生理用ナプキン20の周囲32の少なく
とも部分を形成する。トップシート22およびバックシー
ト24は、好ましくはともに熱可塑性材料を備えるので、
シール40は、吸収体コアの縁部を越えて伸長するトップ
シートとバックシートの少なくとも１つをいっしょに圧
着するか、溶融することによって形成される。
図３は、本発明の方法を実施するために使用される機
器50を示す。図３に示される機器50は、基本的にはダイ
・ロール52の形を取るのが好ましいダイと、アンビル・
ロール54のようなアンビル面を備える。ダイ・ロール54
およびアンビル・ロール54は、両方とも鋼のような硬い
金属製であるのが好ましい。また、ダイ・ロールおよび
アンビル・ロールが両方とも加熱されていることも好ま
しい。これらのロールの表面温度は、好ましくは約200
−300゜F（約90−150℃）の範囲となり、好ましくは約2
50゜F（約120℃）である。これらの温度は、周辺部シー
ルを形成するのには適当であるが、ここに記載される吸
収体の構成要素で型押しを形成するには高すぎる。この
ような高温は、押出しプロセスの間に吸収体を貫通する
燃焼による穴を空ける危険を冒すだろう。したがって、
ロールの独自の配列または形状が提供される。
ダイ・ロール52は、好ましくは加熱されたシーリング
面（またはシール形成領域）56を備える。シール形成領
域52は、生理用ナプキン20で周辺部シール40を形成する
ために使用される。ダイ・ロール52は、さらにその中に
型押し部材60を備える引っ込んだ領域58を備える。引っ
込んだ領域58によって、機器50は、生理用ナプキンの中
心域の吸収体コアの余分な厚さを受け入れることがで
き、生理用ナプキンのこの領域にロールの加熱面が接触
しないことを保証する。図４に詳細に示される型押し部
材60は型押し面60Aを備え、少なくとも１つの隆起した
部分62がそこから伸びる。好ましくは、図４に示される
ように、型押し部材60の表面60Aは、複数の隆起部分62
を有する。隆起部分62は、生理用ナプキン20の体側面20
Aで型押し34を形成するのに使用される。
型押し部材60は、任意の適当な形で提供することがで
きる。型押し部材60は、取外し可能なインサートの形を
取るのが好ましい。型押しインサート60には、それが取
り外しできるように付着することができるように、ダイ
・オール52に複数のボルト穴65が備えられるのが好まし
い。これによって、型押し部材60は、装着中に容易に交
換することができる。また、それは、取外し可能なイン
サートを別のインサートで置換することによって、型押
しのパターンを変更する柔軟性も提供する。その他の実
施例では、実施例34は、型押しインサート60を単に取り
外すことによって吸収体から全体的に排除することがで
きる。
型押しインサート60は、好ましくは、厚さが約0.25イ
ンチ（0.64センチメートル）の厚さである湾曲した金属
（鋼）シェルを備える。型押しインサート60の表面60A
およびその上の隆起部分62は、好ましくはプラズマ被覆
され（つまり、技術では周知の技術にしたがってテフロ
ン含浸で陽極処理されたハードコート）、同上での生理
用ナプキンの接着剤の蓄積を回避するのが好ましい。吸
収体と貫通する穴を燃焼させるのを避けるために、取外
し可能型押しインサート60は、絶縁材の内側層66も備え
る。絶縁材の内側層66は、型押しインサート60が接続さ
れるダイ・ロール52の部分に隣接して適合する湾曲した
ナイロン・シェルの形を取るのが好ましい。したがっ
て、内側層66は、型押しインサート60を付着させる加熱
されたダイ・ロール52の部分と、型押し面60Aの間に配
置される。内側層66は、周辺部シール40を形成するため
に使用される熱の少なくともいくらかから型押し面60A
を絶縁することができる。ナイロン・シェル66は、好ま
しくは、厚さが約0.100インチと0.300インチ（約0.25セ
ンチと0.76センチ）の間である。正確な厚さは、希望さ
れる型押しを作り出すために必要とされる熱の量によっ
て決定される。
また、アンビル・ロール54は、その中にアンビル・イ
ンサート70を備える引っ込んだ領域68を有するのが好ま
しい。アンビル・インサート70は、図５に詳細に示され
る。アンビル・インサート70には、それが好ましくは取
外し可能でもあるように、１組のボルト穴72が備えられ
る。アンビル・インサート70は、実質的には滑らかな面
を有し、アンビル・ロール54の引っ込んだ領域68の中に
はめ込まれる。アンビル・インサート70は、型押しイン
サート60の隆起部分62が、生理用ナプキン20の衣服側を
破壊しないように、好ましくは、アンビル・ロール54の
表面の残っている部分より柔らかい。アンビル・インサ
ート70の外側のアンビル・ロール54の部分は、ここで
は、アンビル面の「第１部」と呼ばれ、さらに柔らかな
アンビル・インサート70は、アンビル面の「第２部」と
呼ばれることがある。アンビル・インサート70およびそ
の表面上の柔らかな材料は、この目的に適切なあらゆる
材料から構成されることがある。アンビル・インサート
70は、成形ウレタン外装面76を備える、約0.25インチ

えるのが好ましい。ウレタン外装面76は、約0.25インチ
（約0.64センチ）の厚さであり、約50ショア「Ａ」と約
70ショア「Ｄ」の間の硬さ範囲となるのが好ましい。こ
こに記載される好まれる実施例においては、アンビル・
インサート70の外装面76は、好ましくは90ショア「Ａ」
の硬度となる。好まれる実施例では、アンビル・インサ
ート70のウレタン面76は、ペンシルバニア州アレンタウ
ン（Alentown,PA）のエア・プロダクツ・アンド・ケミ
カルズ社（Air Products and Chemicals Inc.）か
ら入手可能なシヤナセット（Cynaset）A9QM治癒薬（cur
ative）を含むシナヤプレン（Cynaprene）＃Ｄ−55ポリ
マーから構成される。ウレタン外装材料76は同等な熱絶
縁機能を提供するため、アンビル・インサート70は、型
押しインサート60のそれに類似した絶縁材の内側層を有
することを必要としない。
ダイ・ロール52とアンビル・ロール54は、生理用ナプ
キンの構成要素がそれを通して送られるロールの間のニ
ップ80を画定するために、好ましくは一定の距離、離さ
れたままとなる。ここに記載される特定の生理用ナプキ
ンを形成するためには、ダイ・ロールとアンビル・ロー
ルの間の距離は、約0.025インチ（約0.064センチ）を下
回るか、それに等しいのが好ましく、もっとも好ましい
のは約0.015インチ（約0.038センチ）である。これらの
加熱されたロールの間のニップ80の間にこれらの構成要
素を送ると、これらの構成要素に圧力がかけられ、それ
は、型押し34と周辺部シール40をその中に形成するのに
十分である。
運用中、吸収体の構成要素（つまり、トップシート、
バックシート、および吸収体コア）は、適切な順序で互
いの上に置かれ、希望される場合には、これらの構成要
素の内の少なくともいくつかがその表面でいっしょに固
定される。吸収体の構成要素は、（不連続パッチまたは
部品の中にある吸収体コアと二次トップシートを除い
て）連続するウェブまたはラミネートの形で提供される
のが好ましい。構成要素が図３に示される機器50に供給
されるとき、構成要素は、下向きのトップシート材料の
ウェブのあるラミネートの中に配列される。それから、
組み立てられた構成要素は、ダイ・ロール52とアンビル
・ロール54の間のニップ80の中に送られる。吸収体の構
成要素がダイ・ロール52とアンビル・ロール54の間のニ
ップ80の中に送られると、加熱されたシーリング部材56
が、構成要素の少なくともいくつかの周辺部の回りで少
なくとも部分的に周辺部シール40を形成し、型押し面60
A上の隆起部分62は同時に型押し34のパターンを構成要
素の内の少なくともいくつかの中に形成する。
本発明の方法は、複数の点で従来のプロセスとは異な
る。従来の方法においては、型押しと周辺部シーリング
は、別個の動作で実施され、周辺部シーリングは通常、
先に、型押しは通常最後に行われる。これらの従来の方
法では、圧着と型押しの登録（つまり、圧着領域と型押
しの生理用ナプキンの長手方向中心線と横断方向中心線
に関しての位置合わせ）を制御するために別個の機構が
必要とされた。圧着動作と型押し動作は２つの別個の工
程で発生したので、従来のプロセスには、型押し装置
が、生理用ナプキン20の周辺部の内側で中心になってい
ない型押しを形成するという欠点があった。元は、周辺
部シール40を形成するために必要とされる熱と圧力が、
型押しプロセスでは高すぎる上に、これらの条件下で型
押しを形成しようとすると吸収体に燃焼による穴が開け
られるため、これらの２つのプロセスはいっしょに組み
合わせることは矛盾しすぎると考えられていた。
本発明の方法および機器の多様な代替実施例も存在す
る。例えば、加熱された隆起シーリング面は、吸収体の
周辺部の一部だけの回りでシールを形成するために、ま
たは周辺部以外の吸収体のいくつかの部分でシールを形
成するために構成される。さらに、他の実施例では、イ
ンサートの側面が加熱されたロールと接触するインサー
トの主要部分である場合には、絶縁材は（同の下面また
は外面上よりはむしろ）インサートの側面に向かって配
置される。また他の実施例では、型押し部材、アンビル
面、および絶縁材が、取外し可能なインサートよりはむ
しろ、各ダイとアンビル・ロールの一体化した一部とな
るだろう。数多くの他の代替実施例が考えられる。
さらに、他の実施例では、生理用ナプキンの構成要素
は、技術で既知である多岐に渡るさまざまな形状で組み
立てられ、本発明の方法と機器を使用して、型押しさ
れ、密封されることがある。複数の好まれる生理用ナプ
キンの形状は、通常、以下に記載される。つまり、1982
年３月30日にAhrに発行された米国特許第4,321,94号
「縁取りされた使い捨て吸収体（Bordered Disposaabl
e Absorbent Article）」、1984年１月10日にDesMara
isに発行された第4,425,130号「複合生理用ナプキン（C
ompound Sanitary Napkin）」、それぞれ1990年８月2
0日と1991年４月23日にOsbornに発行された、ともに
「薄く柔軟性のある生理用ナプキン（Thin,Flexible S
anitary Napkin）」と題する米国特許第4,950,264号と
第5,009,653号、フラップを有する生理用ナプキンを開
示するVan Tilburgに発行された米国特許B1第4,589,87
6号、第4,687,478号、および第5,267,992号、およびSne
llerらに発行された前記特許出願である。

Claims (3)

    (57)【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】型押しのパターンを上に有し、少なくとも
    部分的に周辺部シールを周辺部の回りに有する吸収体を
    製造する方法であって、 前記方法は、 吸収体の構成要素を提供する工程であって、前記構成要
    素が前記構成要素の内の少なくともいくつかの中にパタ
    ーンを型押しすることと、前記構成要素の内の少なくと
    もいくつかの周辺部の回りに少なくとも部分的に周辺部
    シールを形成することに備えて配列される工程と、 加熱されたシーリング部材とアンビル面を提供する工程
    であって、前記シーリング部材がその中に型押し面を形
    成され、前記型押し面が、そこから伸びる少なくとも１
    つの隆起部分を備える前記シーリング部材の引っ込んだ
    部分を、前記型押しを形成するために備える工程と、 前記吸収体の前記構成要素を前記加熱されたシーリング
    部材と前記アンビル面の間に配置し、前記構成要素が前
    記加熱されたシーリング部材と前記アンビル面の間にあ
    る間に前記構成要素に圧力をかけることによって、吸収
    体の前記構成要素で周辺部シールを同時に型押し、形成
    し、その結果、前記加熱されたシーリング部材が、前記
    構成要素の少なくともいくつかの周辺部の回りで少なく
    とも部分的に周辺部シールを形成し、前記型押し面が前
    記構成要素の少なくともいくつかの中に型押しのパター
    ンを形成する工程と、 を具備することを特徴とする方法。
  2. 【請求項２】吸収体の構成要素の周辺部とこの吸収体の
    型押しのパターンの回りで少なくとも部分的に周辺部シ
    ールを、同時に型押しし形成するための機器であって、 前記機器は、 引っ込んだ部分と、前記加熱シーリング部材の引っ込ん
    だ部分の中に配置される型押し部材を備える加熱された
    シーリング部材と、 吸収体の構成要素がそれを背に配置されるアンビル面で
    あって、第１硬度を有する前記加熱されたシーリング部
    材に整列する第１部分と、前記アンビル面の前記第１部
    分より少ない硬度となる前記型押し部材に整列する第２
    部材を有する前記アンビル面と、 前記構成要素が前記加熱されたシーリング部材と前記ア
    ンビル面の間に配置されるときに、吸収体の構成要素に
    圧縮圧力をかけるための機構と、 を具備することを特徴とする機器。
  3. 【請求項３】前記機器は、前記加熱されたシーリング部
    材と前記型押し部材の間に配置される熱絶縁材とを更に
    具備し、 前記絶縁材は、前記加熱されたシーリング部材と前記型
    押し部材の内の少なくとも１つに接合されることを特徴
    とする、請求項２に記載の機器。
