【発明の詳細な説明】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は複数のデータ・セットを
編集できるハイパーテキスト・データ処理システムに関
する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】ハイパーテキストという言葉は、データ
処理装置内での情報の特定の組織体及び使用者に対する
その表示内容を表すものである。これによると、種々の
情報源からの情報を連結させ、特定のトピックを探求で
きる状態で使用者に情報を提供できるという能力がコン
ピュータに与えられる。書籍に使用される一般的な表示
形態では、情報の組織体に対して、媒体による制限、す
なわち、寸法が一定で連続した紙の頁による制限が加わ
る。ところが、ハイパーテキスト・システムでは、多数
のユニットのテキストやその他の形式のデータ、すなわ
ち、像情報や画像情報、ビデオ情報、音情報を使用で
き、又、それらのサイズを変化させることもできる。そ
のような複数の情報ユニットの集合体をハイパーテキス
ト書類と呼ぶ。場合によっては、テキスト以外の情報を
採用したハイパーテキスト書類はハイパーメディア書類
と呼ぶ。
【０００３】種々のユニットは、それぞれ、本質的には
独立しているが、他のユニットに関連させることもでき
る。そのような関連性は、ハイパーテキスト書類では、
例外的なものではなく、標準的なものである。上記関連
性は「リンク」という形態で表される。リンクはユーザ
ーが行う制御である。それによると、リンク目標である
特定のユニットが表示されるようになる。通常、ハイパ
ーテキスト・システムはウィンドウ型で、新たに表示さ
れるユニットが新たなウィンドウに表れる。無論、新た
なユニットは別のリンクを含んでいる。リンクを順々に
進むことにより、使用者は書類内を「航行」（ナビゲー
ト）する。使用者は、情報を表す順序を広範囲にわたっ
て制御でき、又、対象とする情報の選択及び任意のトピ
ックを追求する程度を主導権を持って決定できる。
【０００４】ハイパーテキスト書類は、本質的には、リ
ンクにより結合された複数の独立情報ユニット又は「ノ
ード」のグループで構成される。各リンクは２個の情報
ユニットの間の関係である。関係するデータは、リンク
が開始される第１ユニットの位置と、目標である第２ユ
ニットの位置とを含んでいる。そのような位置情報は種
々の形態で記憶され、例えば、ファイルの開始からのバ
イト数を示すバイト・オフセットの形態で記憶される。
【０００５】いくつかの理由により、リンク情報とユニ
ット情報とを同じデータ・ファイルに記憶せず、別々に
保管する方が効果的であることが既に分かっている。特
に、そのようにすると、複数の同一書類について、それ
らのリンク方法を使用者ごとに変えることができる。こ
のことは、新たな書類に対する使用者独自のリンクを加
えることにより、標準的なリンク・セットを各使用者が
拡張できることを意味している。更に、情報の画像マッ
プとして複数の情報ユニット間の関係を表示することも
できる。
【０００６】ハイパーテキスト書類をなんらかの形で見
るためのリンク・セットは「ウエブ」として知られてい
る。ハイパーテキスト書類を実施する場合、効果的な方
法として、各ユニット毎に異なるファイルを使用し、構
造化照会言語（ＳＱＬ）などのリレーショナル・データ
ベースのデータ・セットの外部にウエブを保持すると効
果的である。リンクにより結合される各情報ユニットは
独自の識別子を持っている。リンクはＳＱＬテーブルに
記憶される。各リンクはテーブルのエントリであり、特
に、それが連結するノードの識別子を含んでいる。例え
ば、特定のノードに連結する全てのリンクを見つけ出す
ことを容易に行える。リンクテーブルは、当該ノードに
等しいノード識別子を持っているいずれのエントリにつ
いても検索できる。ＳＱＬにより、この種の検索を容易
に行える。このような検索は、ノードと、それに対応す
るリンクとの間の関係についての照会を頻繁に行う必要
のあるハイパーテキスト・システムにおいて、非常に重
要である。
【０００７】複数の既存の情報ユニット間でリンクを形
成することは比較的単純な作業であり、通常、適当なユ
ーザー・インターフェースを持つように作成されたコン
ピュータ・プログラムにより実行される。但し、ハイパ
ーテキスト書類の一部であるユニットを編集する必要が
ある場合に、問題が生じる。編集処理はファイル内のバ
イト・オフセットを変更することにより、外部保持リン
クを無効にする場合がある。更に大きい問題として、リ
ンク目標であるデータの全てのチャンクがファイルから
削除される可能性がある場合がある。
【０００８】このような問題の１つの解決策として、関
連する特定の形式のハイパーテキスト書類を特に取り扱
うようにした編集プログラムを設けるという方法があ
り、その場合、エディタは、リンクの進行状況と、それ
に対する全ての変化とを記録するための手段を含んでい
る。そのような「閉鎖」ハイパーテキスト・システムの
一例は、既に、AGM SIGPLAN Note 21, 11 (1986) pp186
-201に記載された「インターメディア」として知られて
いる。このハイパーテキスト・システムでは、リンク
は、ＳＱＬデータベースにおいて、データ・セットに対
して外部に保管される。そのような「閉鎖」システムは
そのためのエディタ（「インターメディア」の場合には
「インターテキスト」、「インターピクス」、「インタ
ードロー」）を有しており、ハイパーテキストの要素を
これらの専用の手段を使用して編集できるだけである。
エディタは外部リンク情報を理解し、編集処理中にそれ
を明確に維持する。
【０００９】一方、ハイパーテキスト書類に関係するよ
うな複数種類のデータ・セットのための汎用エディタが
既に数多く存在している。ところが、これらの汎用エデ
ィタはハイパーテキストを考慮して設計されていない。
すなわち、ハイパーテキスト書類に関係するデータ・セ
ットは、従来の汎用エディタを使用して編集した場合、
信頼性が得られない。
【００１０】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】従って、本発明の課題
は、上述のエディタを使用できる「オープンな」ハイパ
ーテキスト・システムを提供することにある。
【００１１】
【課題を解決するための手段】本発明によるハイパーテ
キスト・データ処理システムは、複数のデータ・セット
と該データ・セット内の複数の特定位置間の少なくとも
１個のハイパーテキスト・リンクを限定するウエブ・フ
ァイルとを記憶する記憶手段と、ウエブ・ファイルを調
べて、ハイパーテキスト・リンクに対応する選択データ
・セット内の位置を識別する情報を抽出し、選択データ
・セットの識別された位置でタグを発生させ、選択デー
タ・セットの内容を編集可能なファイルとする手段と、
編集可能なファイルを編集するための手段と、編集可能
なファイルからタグを除去して、編集処理中に選択デー
タ・セットの内容に対してなされた変化に従って出力デ
ータ・セットを発生させる手段とを備えている。
【００１２】又、本発明はハイパーテキスト・データ処
理システムを提供するものであり、それによると、タグ
の形態でハイパーテキスト・リンク情報を含んでいる編
集可能なファイルを形成することにより、編集作業中に
ハイパーテキスト・リンクを保存するという単純な方法
を採用しており、それにより、従来のエディタを編集手
段として使用することが可能となっている。
【００１３】本発明の効果は、データ処理システムがウ
エブ・ファイル内のリンク情報にアクセスすることが必
要になるのは、ファイルをディスクから読み出す間と、
変更後にファイルをディスク記憶部に保存する時だけで
あるということである。
【００１４】本発明の実施例の特徴では、ハイパーテキ
スト・データ処理システムが、更に、編集処理中にタグ
の位置についてなされた変更に従って、ウエブ・ファイ
ル情報を更新するための手段を備えている。
【００１５】更に本発明の実施例の特徴によると、ウエ
ブ・ファイル情報を更新するための手段が、更新ウエブ
・ファイルを発生させるようになっている。編集後のデ
ータ・セットの保存処理の一部分として、編集処理中に
リンクに対してなされた変更を盛り込んだ新たな内容の
ウエブ・ファイルが形成される。
【００１６】更に本発明の実施例の特徴によると、ウエ
ブ・ファイル情報を更新するための手段がウエブ・ファ
イルを変更する。編集後のデータ・セットを保存するた
めの処理の一部として、タグが取り除かれ、外部に保持
されているウエブ・ファイル内のリンク情報が修正され
る。
【００１７】更に本発明の実施例の特徴によると、編集
手段が、編集可能なファイルのコピーを自動保存するた
めの手段を含んでおり、従って、現時点での編集状態を
記憶し、故障などが生じた場合の回復処理や、後の段階
で使用者が不適当と判断した変更を元に戻す際に役立て
ることができる。
【００１８】更に本発明の実施例の特徴によると、各タ
グが、テーブルのエントリに対するリファレンスを含ん
でおり、その場合のテーブルのエントリは、タグの位置
が対応するハイパーテキスト・リンク参照情報を含んで
おり、従って、タグをできる限り短く保つことができ
る。
【００１９】本発明の実施例の更に別の特徴によると、
特定のデータ・セットがテキスト・ファイルであり、タ
グは、その最初の文字が特定の形式の文字である複数の
連続した文字からなり、これにより、連続した文字がタ
グであると識別できるようになっている。これによる
と、タグをデータ・セットのその他の部分から識別でき
る。
【００２０】次に本発明の実施例を図面を参照して以下
に説明する。
【００２１】
【実施例】図１は本発明の実施例のデータ処理システム
を示すブロック線図である。図１に示すワークステーシ
ョンは、中央演算処理装置（ＣＰＵ）４と、読み取り専
用記憶装置（ＲＯＳ）６と、ランダム・アクセス記憶装
置（ＲＡＭ）８と、データ記憶用のディスク・ドライブ
１０と、ディスプレイ１２と、キーボード１４及び（又
は）マウス１６であるユーザー・インターフェースとで
構成されている。これらのユニットはシステム・バス２
により互いに接続されている。
【００２２】なお、本発明によるデータ処理システムは
別の形式のものでもよく、例えば、メインフレーム・シ
ステムや、単独ユーザー又は複数ユーザー型システムで
もよい。
【００２３】本発明の実施例では、ハイパーテキスト・
データ・セットを、エディタを使用して編集することが
でき、該エディタは、ディスク記憶装置１０に命令とし
て記憶されたコンピュータ・プログラムの形態を通常は
とっている。但し、エディタは、専用の電子回路や、プ
ログラム可能な論理アレイなどを使用して実行すること
もできる。
【００２４】本発明の実施例では、ハイパーテキスト書
類が、ディスク装置１０に記憶された少なくとも１つの
データ・セットの形態で記憶されているものとし、その
場合、ハイパーテキスト・リンクは、ディスク記憶装置
１０に記憶されたＳＱＬテーブルに記憶されているもの
とする。更に説明のために、ハイパーテキスト書類の構
成データ・セットがテキスト・ファイルであるとする。
但し、本発明の本質的な特徴は、像データや画像デー
タ、ならびに、ハイパーテキスト書類に加えることがで
きる編集可能なあらゆる種類のデータに対して同等に適
用できる。更に、位置はファイルの開始点からのバイト
・オフセットの形態で記憶されているものとするが、こ
のことも、位置情報を記憶できる１つの形態を示してい
るだけである。
【００２５】従来のエディタの作用が第２図にフロー線
図で示されている。入力ファイルがディスク記憶装置１
０からラム（ＲＡＭ）８へ読み込まれる（１８）。使用
者はラム８内のデータを変更でき（２０）、編集処理が
終了すると、出力ファイルがディスク記憶装置１０に与
えられ（２２）、その場合の出力書類は、使用者が行っ
た全ての変更を盛り込んだ入力ファイルのコピーで構成
されている。
【００２６】本発明実施例によるデータ処理システムの
作用が、図３のフロー線図に示されている。データ処理
システムは、入力ファイルが読み込まれる際に（２
４）、入力ファイルがハイパーテキスト書類であること
を認識する。この認識はいくつかの方法で行うことがで
きる。例えば、ファイルの読み込み前に、データ処理シ
ステムはウエブ・ファイルを調べて、ファイルがハイパ
ーテキスト書類を形成しているかどうかを判断すること
ができる。これに代えて、いくつかのファイル・システ
ムでは、例えば、ヘッダー情報に含まれる属性をファイ
ルとともに記憶するようにできる。属性を使用すること
により、ファイルがハイパーテキスト書類を形成してい
るかどうかがエディタに示される。
【００２７】テキスト・ファイルがハイパーテキスト書
類の一部であることが確認されると、ファイル内にある
全てのリンク・ソース及びターゲットがウエブ・ファイ
ルから調査され（２６）、明示リンク・タグがテキスト
内の適当な位置に埋め込まれ（２８）、それにより、エ
ディタで編集可能なファイルが形成される。無論、各タ
グが読み込まれる際、その時点で埋め込まれていないリ
ンクのためのオフセット情報は変化することになり、編
集用の形態にあるファイルは、タグを明示状態では含ん
でいないディスク上の形態よりも長くなる。このこと
は、既に挿入されたタグの長さだけオフセットを増加さ
せるだけで解消できる。
【００２８】リンクを記述する埋め込みタグの正確な形
態はエディタの性質に左右される。エディタがファイル
のコンテキストをある程度理解する場合、コンテキスト
定義はタグを含むように拡張できる。これにより、例え
ば、使用者がタグの内容を変更することをエディタで防
止できるようになり、それにより、その整合性が確実に
維持されるようになる。エディタがさほど高度なもので
ない場合、リンク情報を囲むようにして、いくつかのグ
ラフィック・エスケープ文字が使用される。タグについ
ての最も単純な形態は、タグを特徴付けるために保存さ
れるコロン又はバックスラッシュなどの文字を先行させ
た任意の長さのテキスト・ストリングとなる。例え
ば「:abc 」 等である。
【００２９】３つの行程２４、２６、２８が、使用者が
ファイルに変更を加える前の「読み込み」段階３８を形
成する。タグは、ファイルがラム８に読み込まれた後、
又はその読み込み処理中に、別の行程としてファイルに
埋め込むことができる。
【００３０】ハイパーテキスト・ファイルにタグが埋め
込まれると、ファイルの変更を、一般的な方法によりエ
ディタを使用して使用者が実施できる（２０）。タグは
移動させることができ、場合によっては削除することも
できる。
【００３１】編集処理の最後では、タグがファイルから
取り除かれ（３２）、出力ファイルが発生させられて、
リンク情報がそれに対応させて更新される（３４）。
【００３２】３つの行程３２、３４、３６が、使用者に
よる変更が完了した後の「保存」段階４０を形成してい
る。タグは、出力ファイルの発生前、又は、発生処理中
に、別の行程で取り除くことができる。
【００３３】タグがファイルに加えられると、編集を通
常の方法で継続できる。エディタ自体には機能的な変更
を全く加える必要がない。唯一の付加的な処理は、ファ
イルの読み込み（３８）及び保存（４０）の間に行われ
る。
【００３４】数多くのエディタには自動保存機能があ
る。これによると、現時点での編集状態を一時的ファイ
ルとして周期的に保存でき、故障などが生じた場合の回
復に役立てるとともに、後の段階で使用者が不適当と判
断した変更を元に戻す際に役立てることができる。本発
明では、自動保存機能を単純な形態で実現できる。リン
クがファイルに埋め込まれているので、エディタが自動
保存を行う時、タグを取り除くことなく一時的自動保存
ファイルとしてファイルを保存することにより、リンク
の状態を自動的に保存できる。既に自動保存されている
内容にファイルを戻すことを使用者が決定した場合、リ
ンク状態は自動的に適当なレベルになる。
【００３５】タグのファイルに加えられた情報が、関連
する特定のリンクに対してファイル内の位置を関連付る
ための最小必要条件であるようにすると効果的である。
このことは、編集中のファイルから分離してテーブルに
リンク参照情報を保持することにより実現でき、その場
合、編集中のファイル内のタグは、対応するリンク情報
を含むテーブルエントリを参照するようにする。テーブ
ルエントリはファイル編集中に変化しない。又、リンク
・タグの情報もファイル変更の際に変化しない。エディ
タの通常の作用はそのまま残る。エディタの作用が完了
して、変更後のファイルが保存されるのは、更に行為が
行われた時だけである。
【００３６】いくつかの形式のエディタでは、あらゆる
リンク・タグの内容を使用者が変更することを禁止する
ようにできる。但し、テキストの移動や追加、ファイル
からの削除を使用者が行えるようにしなければならな
い。その場合、テキストとともにタグも削除するように
できる。編集作業の結果としてタグが取り除かれると、
ハイパーテキスト書類の構造が破壊されてしまう可能性
がある。このことは、リンク・ターゲットが削除された
場合に最も生じ易い。そのような事態が生じた場合、書
類内の別のいずれかの場所からぶら下がりリファレンス
が存在するようになる。システムはぶら下がりリンクを
検出して、それを削除する。無論、当業者にとって明ら
かなように、タグの削除は様々な方法で処理することが
でき、例えば、変更中の書類を別の内容として形成する
ことにより処理できる。
【００３７】以上に本発明の実施例を説明したが、上記
以外の様々な変更や追加を本発明の範囲内において行う
こともできる。例えば、場合によっては、エディタによ
り、プログラム可能なプロローグ及びエピローグ処理部
を設け、そこに、リンク情報を含む編集可能なファイル
を設けるための論理手段を組み込むこともできる。又、
本発明を実施する際に、編集可能なファイルを発生させ
るための前処理及び後処理段階をエディタに設けること
もできる。

【発明の効果】本発明はハイパーテキスト・データ処理
システムを提供するものであり、それによると、タグの
形態でハイパーテキスト・リンク情報を含んでいる編集
可能なファイルを形成することにより、編集作業中にハ
イパーテキスト・リンクを保存するという単純な方法を
採用しており、それにより、従来のエディタを編集手段
として使用することが可能となっている。

  1. 【請求項１】ハイパーテキストに含まれる複数の情報ユ
    ニットと、前記複数の情報ユニットを関連づけるリンク
    情報を含むウエブ・ファイルとを編集する方法であっ
