2. Description of the Related Art FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view showing a conventional LCD.
It is manufactured generally as follows. First, a sealing material 2 made of an epoxy-based resin or the like is applied and formed on the periphery of one electrode substrate 1 in a frame shape, and then the other electrode substrate (not shown) is laminated. After bonding the substrates, the liquid crystal 3 is injected into the inside of the sealing material 2 through the liquid crystal injection port 2a which is an opening of the sealing material 2, and thereafter, a sealing material made of an ultraviolet curable resin is injected into the liquid crystal injection port 2a. 4 is applied, and the sealing material 4 is cured by irradiating ultraviolet rays 5 thereon, whereby a cell in which the liquid crystal 3 is sealed is produced. Reference numeral 6 in the figure denotes a stopper wall interposed between the two electrode substrates to prevent the sealing material 4 from entering the display portion, and is made of the same material as the sealing material 2.

By the way, in the above-mentioned conventional LCD, when the sealing material 4 is irradiated with ultraviolet rays 5 and cured, the sealing material 2 in the vicinity of the liquid crystal injection port 2a is also cured. Ultraviolet rays are irradiated. When a large amount of ultraviolet rays is irradiated on the sealing material 2, a small amount of incompletely cured component in the sealing material 2 is decomposed by the energy and the liquid crystal 3 is irradiated.
As a result, the specific resistance of the liquid crystal 3 is reduced, and the rising characteristics and charge retention of liquid crystal molecules when voltage is applied are deteriorated. As a result, conventional LCDs
The display contrast may be uneven near the liquid crystal injection port 2a, and the display quality may be impaired.

An object of the present invention is to provide a light-shielding wall for blocking ultraviolet rays outside a frame-shaped sealing material and near a liquid crystal injection port. Achieved.

According to the above-mentioned means, even if the liquid crystal injection port is irradiated with ultraviolet rays in the sealing step, the sealing material is hardly irradiated with ultraviolet rays because the light shielding wall functions as an ultraviolet barrier. There is no danger of the components being decomposed by ultraviolet rays, and the light-shielding wall itself is not in contact with the liquid crystal.

The LCD shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is made of the same material as the sealing material 2 outside the frame-shaped sealing material 2 interposed between the two electrode substrates 1 and 7 and near the liquid crystal injection port 2a. A pair of strip-shaped light shielding walls 8 functioning as an ultraviolet barrier is provided. That is, from both sides of the liquid crystal injection port 2a, the sealing material 2
These light-shielding walls 8 extending along are located at locations where the ultraviolet rays 5 are irradiated in the sealing step of curing the sealing material 4 made of an ultraviolet-curable resin. However, since these light shielding walls 8 are located outside the sealing material 2, they do not come into contact with the liquid crystal 3, so that there is no danger that the decomposed component will adversely affect the liquid crystal 3. Further, since the sealing material 2 is hardly irradiated with the ultraviolet light 5 due to the presence of the light shielding wall 8, there is no possibility that the incompletely cured component in the sealing material 2 is decomposed by the energy of the ultraviolet light 5. Therefore, it is possible to avoid unevenness in the display contrast of the LCD due to the irradiation of the ultraviolet rays in the sealing step, and it is possible to always expect good display quality. In addition, since the light shielding wall 8 may be patterned together with the sealing material 2, there is an advantage that the number of steps is not increased.

Further, even if the light shielding wall 8 is formed of a material different from that of the sealing material 2, the function as an ultraviolet barrier can be provided. However, in consideration of productivity, it is preferable that both can be collectively formed of the same material.

As described above, according to the present invention, the light-shielding wall provided near the liquid crystal injection port functions as an ultraviolet barrier for the sealing material, and the components in the sealing material are irradiated by the ultraviolet irradiation in the sealing step. Since the liquid crystal is not decomposed, it is possible to avoid uneven display contrast in the vicinity of the liquid crystal inlet, so that the LCD can always be expected to have good display quality.
