Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a high-definition picture tube using an impregnated cathode which has attracted attention as a high current density cathode. 2. Description of the Related Art A conventional impregnated cathode for a picture tube is disclosed in JP-A-61-13526 (Japanese Patent Application No. 59-13314).
As described in No. 9), a thin film composed of a high melting point metal and Sc or an oxide of Sc or both is provided on the electron emission surface of the heat-resistant porous substrate. [0003] In the above-mentioned conventional cathode, the oxidation state of the constituent elements of the thin film, particularly W, is not taken into consideration, and the degree of oxidation of W is reduced according to the vacuum atmosphere or the like at the time of forming the thin film. Was changing. An object of the present invention is to artificially control the oxidation state of W. [0005] The above object SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION is made reach by the using the W powder or plates oxidized pre Me as a target during sputter deposition. The electron emission characteristics of the impregnated cathode are governed by the work function of the cathode surface. The work function is determined by the arrangement of atoms on the outermost surface of the cathode. On the outermost surface of the cathode coated with a mixed thin film of W and Sc 2 O 3 , a monomolecular layer composed of Ba, Sc and O is ideally mixed. The constituent elements of this monolayer, Sc and O, are replenished from the coating mixed thin film, and Ba is replenished from the usual underlying impregnated cathode. During cathode operation, the supply and evaporation of these elements equilibrate and become a steady state. Become. Of these, O is an oxide of W in the thin film (W
O 3 ) and Sc 2 O 3 are supplied by decomposition. In particular, a large amount of O is required at the time of initial monolayer formation, and therefore the presence of W oxide is indispensable. After forming the thin film, the W oxide is easily formed on the surface by once exposing the cathode to the atmosphere. However, the thickness of this oxide layer is extremely thin and cannot be a sufficient supply source of O. In the present invention, the W oxide is controlled and artificially formed. An embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to FIG. FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view schematically showing an impregnated cathode according to the present invention. In the figure, reference numeral 1 denotes a pellet (1.4φ) of a cathode material, which is formed of a porous W base 2 having a porosity of 20 to 25% and pores 3. As the porous substrate, Mo, Ir, Pt, Re, or an alloy thereof may be used. In the holes 3, BaCO is used as an electron-emitting material.
3 , a mixture of CaCO 3 and Al 2 O 3 in a molar ratio of 4: 1: 1 was impregnated. Note that materials having different molar ratios or electron-emitting materials to which different materials are added may be used.
The pellet 1 is mounted on a Ta cup 4, and then the Ta cup 4 is laser-welded to a Ta sleeve 5. Alternatively, a brazing material may be used instead of laser welding. The cathode is heated using a heater 7 in which the W core wire 6 is coated with alumina. The above is the Ba supply source. The replenishment amount of Ba depends on the heating temperature, but changes the molar ratio of the electron-emitting material, and changes Zr, Hf, Ti, Cr, Mn, Si,
It can also be adjusted by incorporating an activator such as Al. Sc and O, which are the constituent elements of the monolayer other than Ba,
It was allowed deposited by the thick 10nm~1μm as supply source W and a thin film 8 made of Sc 2 O 3 spatter deposition method. This

As a method of artificial control of the compound,
An oxide of W is used for the get. In this embodiment, the W oxide target is
A plate-shaped product was used.
It may be used as it is. In addition, as the W oxide, the WO 2
The present invention is not limited to this, and one having another oxidation degree such as WO 3 may be used. Using such a cathode, a cathode-anode diode system has a width of 5 μS on the anode and a repetition rate of 10 μS.
A high-current pulse of 0 Hz was applied to measure the saturation current density. The result is shown in FIG. FIG. 9 shows the characteristics of a cathode coated with a thin film composed of W and Sc 2 O 3 according to the present invention. In the figure, reference numeral 10 denotes the characteristics of the cathode without the oxidation treatment of the thin film. In the figure, reference numeral 11 denotes the characteristics of the cathode not coated with a thin film. According to the present invention, according to the present invention, B
Since a monolayer composed of a, Sc, and O can be stably supplied, a cathode having good electron emission characteristics can be obtained with good reproducibility, and a high-definition picture tube can be realized.
