It can be used in such a manner that after treatment such as dropping, the exposed portion of the skin or clothing is covered with the substrate. Examples of the material of the substrate include synthetic fibers such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyester, vinylon, and nylon, resins, animal and plant fibers such as silk, cotton, and wool, and inorganic fibers such as aluminum and the like. Mixtures are mentioned. When a mesh-like substrate is used, the finer the mesh, the better. However, generally, a mesh of about 16 mesh or less is sufficiently effective.

Both ends of a glass tube having a diameter of 4 cm and a length of 12 cm were covered with a 16-mesh nylon net. Meanwhile, the back of a rabbit (8 months old) was shaved and several circles 4 cm in diameter were drawn. 0.2 ml of a solution obtained by diluting empentrin or N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide to a predetermined concentration with ethanol was applied to a circle drawn on the back of a rabbit.

One minute later, the number of heads (A) in which the test insects stay on the skin and perform blood sucking were counted, and three minutes later, the number of heads whose blood was sucked and the abdomen turned red (B) was counted. The same test was performed on the part to which only 0.2 ml of ethanol was applied as the target, and the repellent rate and blood sucking inhibition rate were calculated from the following formulas. The corrected repellent rate was applied to the Abbott's correction formula based on the control test results. And the corrected blood sucking inhibition rate were determined. Table 1 shows the results.
