2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a double-head sewing machine provided with a pair of right and left sewing machines for folding and sewing both ears of a raw towel cloth into three has been widely used by towel manufacturers. This sewing device is used for thin towels that mainly use bath towels.
It has gained popularity because it has a meandering follow-up means and can efficiently sew both ears.

However, as the standard of living has improved recently, the number of thick towels incorporating a pattern on towels has also increased, and both ears of a raw towel connected with a castor have been folded and sewn in three. At that time, the toweling becomes thinner or thicker on the way, making it difficult to fold and sew it neatly.

As shown in FIG. 4, both ears a of a raw towel web A having a thick portion a1 (a densely woven ground-filling woven portion) incorporating such a pattern are cut by a conventional sewing apparatus.
When sewn and sewn, three folds b at thick part a1
1 is distorted, it is folded in two, the edge fuzz comes out, or the ear part a protrudes from the spiral guide, and it becomes impossible to continue folding in three, so that the finish of the towel is remarkably deteriorated.

Is a rubber roller which is driven by a variable speed motor (not shown) of an inverter in synchronization with the feed speed of the feed dogs (upper feed dog 27a and lower feed dog 27b) of the sewing machines 25 and 26. The meandering of the raw towel web A is corrected by the cross guider before the normal feeding means 10.

In the present example, an electric field proximity switch is used for the thickness detector 31, and a towel is placed on the horizontal frame 36 of the machine.
It is fixed at a distance slightly higher than the thickness of the thick portion a1 of the raw material A (the height is adjustable). The distance between the detector 31 and the front ends of the spiral guides 21 and 22 is measured, and the distance is measured by a controller.

The sewing machines 25, 26 are mounted on rails 47a, 47b extending in the transverse direction of the machine base F via trochanters 44 so as to be movable without any backlash.
a is fixed on mounting tables 28 and 29 movably mounted on rails 28b and 29b such as a linear way. The mounting bases 28 and 29 are mounted on brackets B of the inverter motor M for the sewing machine with brackets B extending downward from the outer end surfaces.
c and 29c are suspended. Bracket B has a base 2
The output shaft ends of the air cylinders 35 fixed to the lower surfaces of the bases 8a and 29a are connected to each other.
8a and 29a can be moved in the transverse direction. That is, when the air cylinder 35 is contracted from the extended position, the sewing machines 25 and 26 are moved inside each other. The moving position is adjusted by appropriately providing a stopper. Base 28
The nuts 45a, 46a screwed to the ball screws 45, 46 are fixed to the lower surface, and the ball screw 4a
By turning the wheels 5 and 46 with a handle or a motor, the sewing machines 25 and 26 are moved to appropriate positions according to the width of the raw towel web A. At this time, the air cylinder 35 is in an extended state. In the drawing, reference numeral 48 denotes a sewing thread bobbin support, and reference numeral 49 denotes a V-belt connecting the sewing machine motor M and the sewing machine power input pulley P.

Next, the operation of the lockstitch machine 1 will be outlined. First, according to the width of the towel web A, the ball screw 4
5 and 46 are turned to set the interval between the left and right sewing machines 25 and 26, and the cloth presser 40 is also set as described above, and the thickness detectors 31 and 31 are also left and right ears a where the difference in thickness is good. Set to. The thin standard portion at the tip of the raw towel web A is manually introduced into the spiral guides 21 and 22 to form a three-fold portion b, and trial sewing is performed to perform initial setting. Then, enter automatic operation.

When the thick portion a1 is detected by the thickness detectors 31, 31, the spiral guides 21, 22 are sent from the thickness detectors 31, 31.
Calculate the constant distance to the tip of
The air cylinder 35, which has been detected first by estimating the arrival at the tip of the guide 1 (there is a slight delay in the left and right even though the meandering is corrected by the cross guider), is contracted, and the spiral guide 21 ( 22) and the sewing machine 25 (26), and the feed means 10 and the sewing machine feed teeth 27a,
27b, the needle 27, and the speed of the belt conveyor 51 are reduced.
The arrival is similarly estimated by the thickness detection signal on the side slightly delayed, and the air cylinder 35 on that side is also contracted. As a result, the thick portion a1 is easily folded into three in the spiral guides 21 and 22, and the three-fold portion b1 thickened by the sewing machines 25 and 26 is also reliably sewn. Extend the air cylinder 35 on the side where the sewing has been completed, and
1, and (22) and the sewing machines 25 and (26) are returned to the outside, but the speed of the feeding means 10 and the sewing machine feed teeth 27a and 27b, the needle 25, and the belt conveyor 51 is reduced when the sewing on the delayed side is completed. Is returned to the original speed together with the expansion and contraction of the air cylinder 35 to the outside. At the end of sewing, the distance from the thickness detector 31 to immediately after the sewing needle 27 and the thick portion a
The length of 1 is grasped and estimated by exchanging the number of pulses corresponding to the feed amount of the feed means 10.

In the following, the order and length of thick sections having different lengths are stored in the control means, and the end of sewing is estimated to take measures. In addition, when the thick portion a1 is folded in three in the spiral guides 21 and 22, the rotating roller can be fed laterally and outwardly, or auxiliary means can be added. Further, in addition to the raw material A for towels, the lockstitch machine 1 may be applied to ear sewing of a blanket or curtain material.

1. A long object having thick portions with an interval in the longitudinal direction over the entire width is transported in the longitudinal direction .
Feeding means, and the side edges on both sides of the long object.
Left and right to fold in three so as to be rolled inside
A pair of spiral guides, and
To sew the side edges that are each placed and folded in three
In a sewing machine equipped with a pair of left and right sewing machines, a signal is detected by detecting a step between a thick portion and a thin portion of the long object.
The thickness detector that is emitted
And the swirl guide and the sewing machine
In the transverse direction perpendicular to the transport direction by the
Moving means for transporting,
Variable speed and sewing speed
And, detects the distance of the thickness of the detector and the front end of said spiral guide
Set the controller in advance so that the thickness is detected
After the container emits a signal, the thick part of the long object
Just before reaching the guide, the feed through its controller
Means to reduce the conveying speed and the sewing speed of the sewing machine.
At the same time, the spiral guide and the sewing machine
Is moved by the moving means so as to approach a predetermined distance
And fold the thick part of the long object into three parts with the spiral guide.
And then sewn with the sewing machine, the feeding means and
When the sewing speed of the sewing machine is increased and returned to the original speed,
Moving the spiral guide and the sewing machine to the moving means
A sewing machine characterized in that the sewing machine is moved away from each other and returned to its original position outside.
