Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a technique for correcting image data representing an image read by an image reading apparatus.
An image reading apparatus reads an image of a document by irradiating the document with light and detecting the reflected light with a reading unit. 2. Description of the Related Art As an image reading device, there is an image reading device that reads a document conveyed by a document feeder (ADF) with a reading section.
In such an image reading device, due to variations in the nip pressure and rotation speed of the rollers that transport the document, skew of the document and variation in the position of the document in the direction perpendicular to the transport direction (hereinafter referred to as the main scanning direction). can occur. Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2002-200002 discloses a configuration in which a shadow of the leading edge of a document in the transport direction is detected from image data representing a reading result, and the image data is rotationally corrected based on the tilt angle of the detected shadow of the leading edge of the document with respect to the main scanning direction. is described.
When a document with a torn leading edge is conveyed by the ADF, the detected tilt angle may differ from the actual tilt angle of the document in the configuration of Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2002-200311. Specifically, the detected skew angle may be larger than the actual document skew angle. In this case, if rotation correction is performed based on the detected angle, the corrected image will be tilted.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In view of the above problems, an object of the present invention is to suppress the inclination of an image after correction.

[First Embodiment]
FIG. 1 is a sectional view showing the configuration of a monochrome electrophotographic copier (hereinafter referred to as an image forming apparatus) 100 used in this embodiment. Note that the image forming apparatus is not limited to a copying machine, and may be, for example, a facsimile machine, a printing machine, a printer, or the like. Moreover, the recording method is not limited to the electrophotographic method, and may be, for example, an inkjet method. Furthermore, the format of the image forming apparatus may be either monochrome or color.

<Image reader>
A
A
The

Image data output from the
Subsequently, the electrostatic latent image is developed with toner in a developing
As described above, the recording medium to which the toner image has been transferred is sent to the
When image formation is performed in the single-sided printing mode, the recording medium that has passed through the fixing

The surface image data after shading correction by the
The

As shown in FIG. 2, the surface image data output from the
FIG. 4 is an explanatory diagram of the processing by the
The
At the point A in FIG. 4A where all nine pixels are the guide plate 116 (white), all the nine pixels are white pixels, so the difference between pmax and pmin is small. On the other hand, at the boundary between the guide plate 116 (white) and the shadow (gray) of the edge of the leading edge of the

The document
The
Based on the position (x1, y1) and the angle θ1, the
As described above, the
FIG. 6 is a diagram showing an image read by the
The
FIG. 7 shows an example of a document with a torn leading edge, and an example of edge detection when the leading edge is torn in a V shape. As shown in FIG. 7, when the sub-scanning position of the leading edge of the document suddenly drops due to tearing, the result of edge extraction also drops accordingly. After that, the torn area ends and the actual leading edge of the document returns to its original position. Since it is not possible to know if there is dust outside the area), and there is a possibility of misdetecting dust as an edge, the position in the sub-scanning direction is not moved up, and the continuity in the main scanning direction is maintained. Detect and extract edges. As a result, the detected leading edge of the document becomes inclined as shown by the regression line in FIG. 7, and the difference from the actual document inclination becomes large. Therefore, if correction is made in accordance with the detected tilt, the output image will be greatly tilted.
Therefore, in this embodiment, when the tilt amount exceeds a predetermined amount, the past document information stored in the
FIG. 8 shows data indicating the amount of skew when a document is conveyed by a certain machine. FIG. 8(a) is a histogram of skew angles when various document sizes are conveyed by the same machine. In the case of this aircraft, it can be said that it is an aircraft that has an inclination characteristic in the positive direction as a skew characteristic unique to the aircraft. FIG. 8B is a histogram of skew angles for each document size in the same machine. It can be seen that the skew variation is small for A3 size documents with a long sub-scanning length, but the skew variation is large for A4 size and STMT size documents with a short sub-scanning length. From the above, it can be seen that the skew characteristics of each machine have a certain characteristic, and that each document size also has a characteristic. From this, it can be said that the amount of skew during document transport can be improved by performing correction using the past skew amount data of a certain machine and the skew amount data for each document size.
