図２を参照すると、第１のアダプターアセンブリ２００が、非関節運動構成で示されている。第１のアダプターアセンブリ２００は、遠位接合ハウジング２０２を含み、この遠位接合ハウジング２０２は、エンドエフェクター３００に連結するように構成されている。遠位接合ハウジング２０２は、中間接合ハウジング２０４に旋回可能に連結され、中間接合ハウジング２０４は、次に、近位接合ハウジング２０６に旋回可能に連結されている。図３を参照すると、中間接合ハウジング２０４は、近位関節運動アセンブリ２１２によって近位接合ハウジング２０６に対して独立して旋回可能である。遠位接合ハウジング２０２は、遠位関節運動アセンブリ２０８によって中間接合ハウジング２０４に対して旋回可能である。
第１のアダプターアセンブリ２００が、二次的アダプターアセンブリ２００’（図１Ｂ）に嵌合させられる場合、またはロボット式外科手術装置２０に嵌合させられる場合、第２のアダプターアセンブリ２００’の駆動コネクター（示されない）、またはロボット式外科手術装置２０の駆動コネクター（示されない）は、第１のアダプターアセンブリ２００（図２および図４）の回転可能なコネクタースリーブ２１８（図２および図４）ならびに関節運動リンク２２０および２２２と連結する。この点において、駆動コネクター（示されない）と、コネクタースリーブ２１８ならびに関節運動リンク２２０および２２２との間のインターフェイスは、二次的アダプターアセンブリ２００’の駆動コネクターまたはロボット式外科手術装置２０の駆動コネクターの各々の回転および／または移動が、第１のアダプターアセンブリ２００の対応するコネクタースリーブ２１８ならびに関節運動リンク２２０および２２２の対応する回転および／または移動を生じさせるようにキー止めされている。これは、長手方向の力および／または回転力が、３つのそれぞれのコネクターインターフェイスの各々を介して独立して伝達されることを可能にする。
外科手術器具１００およびロボット式外科手術装置２０の駆動機構は、エンドエフェクター３００のツールアセンブリ３０４をエンドエフェクター３００の近位本体部分３０２に対して選択的に移動させること、エンドエフェクター３００を第１のアダプターアセンブリ２００によって規定される長手方向軸「Ｘ−Ｘ」（図３）の周りに第１のアダプターアセンブリ２００に対して回転させること、ツールアセンブリ３０４の様々な構成要素を作動させること、例えば、アンビルアセンブリ３０６をエンドエフェクター３００のカートリッジアセンブリ３０８に対して移動させること、ならびに／またはエンドエフェクター３００（図２）のカートリッジアセンブリ３０８内のステープル留めおよび切断カートリッジを発射することを行うために、シャフトおよび／または歯車構成要素を駆動するように構成されている。
外科手術器具１００および／またはロボット式外科手術装置２０の駆動コネクター（複数可）の選択的な回転および／または移動は、外科手術器具１００および／またはロボット式外科手術装置２０が、エンドエフェクター３００の異なる機能を選択的に作動させることを可能にする。より詳細に下で論議されるように、第１のアダプターアセンブリ２００のコネクタースリーブ２１８の選択的で独立的な回転は、エンドエフェクター３００のツールアセンブリ３０４の選択的で独立的な開閉、およびエンドエフェクター３００のツールアセンブリ３０４のステープル留め構成要素／切断構成要素の駆動に対応する。実施形態おいて、コネクタースリーブ２１８の回転は、エンドエフェクター３００を長手方向軸「Ｘ−Ｘ」の周りに第１のアダプターアセンブリ２００に対して回転させるために使用され得る。
図２および図３を参照すると、関節運動リンク２２０および２２２の選択的で独立的な移動は、それぞれ、遠位関節運動アセンブリ２０８および近位関節運動アセンブリ２１２の選択的で独立的な作動に対応する。より詳しくは、図３に示されるように、中間接合ハウジング２０４は、近位接合ハウジング２０６に対して旋回軸「Ａ−Ａ」の周りに「Ｃ１」または「Ｃ２」の方向に旋回可能である。中間接合ハウジング２０４は、近位接合ハウジング２０６によって規定される長手方向軸「Ｘ−Ｘ」および中間接合ハウジング２０４によって規定される長手方向軸「Ｙ−Ｙ」が、図２に示されるような、整列されている（例えば、０角度）非関節運動構成から、長手方向軸「Ｘ−Ｘ」および「Ｙ−Ｙ」が、図３に示されるような、非平行整列にある（例えば、０ではない角度）関節運動構成に旋回させられ得る。中間接合ハウジング２０４は、旋回軸「Ａ−Ａ」の周りに約５°〜約１７０°、実施形態において、約６０°関節運動させられ得る。
遠位接合ハウジング２０２は、中間接合ハウジング２０４に対して旋回軸「Ｂ−Ｂ」の周りに方向「Ｄ１」または「Ｄ２」に旋回可能である。遠位接合ハウジング２０２は、中間接合ハウジング２０４によって規定される長手方向軸「Ｙ−Ｙ」および遠位接合ハウジング２０２によって規定される長手方向軸「Ｚ−Ｚ」が、図２に示されるような、整列されている（例えば、０角度）非関節運動構成から、長手方向軸「Ｙ−Ｙ」および「Ｚ−Ｚ」が、図３に示されるような、非平行整列にある（例えば、０ではない角度）関節運動構成に旋回させられ得る。遠位接合ハウジング２０２は、旋回軸「Ｂ−Ｂ」の周りに約５°〜約１７０°、実施形態において、約９０°関節運動させられ得る。旋回軸「Ａ−Ａ」および「Ｂ−Ｂ」は、互いに対して横断しており、近位接合ハウジング２０６に対するエンドエフェクター３００の二次元の関節運動を可能にする。
図５〜図９を参照すると、近位接合ハウジング２０６に対して中間接合ハウジング２０４を旋回させるための近位関節運動アセンブリ２１２が示されている。近位関節運動アセンブリ２１２は、第２の関節運動リンク２２２を含み、この第２の関節運動リンク２２２は、近位接合ハウジング２０６内で長手方向に移動可能である。近位接合ハウジング２０６は、レバー２２４を介して中間接合ハウジング２０４に旋回可能に連結されている。レバー２２４は、一方の端において、近位接合ハウジング２０６の遠位端に配置されている旋回ピン２０７に旋回可能に連結され、もう一方の端において、中間接合ハウジング２０４の近位端に配置されている旋回ピン２０５に旋回可能に連結されている。
第２の関節運動リンク２２２も、旋回ピン２０５に旋回可能に連結されている。旋回ピン２０７は、旋回軸「Ａ−Ａ」を規定し、レバー２２４のための支点として働き、このレバー２２４は、第２の関節運動リンク２２２が長手方向「Ｅ」（図５）に沿って移動させられると、旋回ピン２０７の周りを旋回する。特に、第２の関節運動リンク２２２が、図５および図７に示されるように、近位方向に移動させられると、中間接合ハウジング２０４は、旋回ピン２０７の周りを旋回させられるレバー２２４とともに、旋回ピン２０５の周りを反時計回りの方向「Ｃ１」（図３）に旋回させられる。図６に示されるように、第２の関節運動リンク２２２の遠位方向移動は、中間接合ハウジング２０４の旋回を、時計回りの方向「Ｃ２」に逆転させる。
図８および図９を参照すると、中間接合ハウジング２０４および近位接合ハウジング２０６の各々は、それぞれ、歯車表面２０９および２１１を含む。レバー２２４は、かみ合って係合されている歯車表面２０９および２１１を維持して、中間接合ハウジング２０４が近位接合ハウジング２０６に対して角度のあるその位置を維持することを可能にする。実施形態において、中間接合ハウジング２０４と近位接合ハウジング２０６とは、それらの２つの対向する側面において、２つのレバー２２４、旋回ピン２０５および２０７、ならびに対応する歯車表面２０９および２１１によって相互接続され得る。
図１０を参照すると、遠位接合ハウジング２０２を中間接合ハウジング２０４に対して旋回させるための遠位関節運動アセンブリ２０８が示されている。遠位関節運動アセンブリ２０８は、第１の関節運動リンク２２０を含み、この第１の関節運動リンク２２０は、中間接合ハウジング２０４および近位接合ハウジング２０６内で長手方向に移動可能である。中間接合ハウジング２０４は、レバー２２６ａ、２２６ｂ（図５および図１０）を介して遠位接合ハウジング２０２に旋回可能に連結されている。レバー２２６ａ、２２６ｂは、それらの一方の端において、それぞれ、中間接合ハウジング２０４の遠位端に配置されている旋回ピン２１７ａ、２１７ｂに旋回可能に連結され、レバー２２６ａ、２２６ｂは、それらのもう一方の端において、それぞれ、遠位接合ハウジング２０２の近位端に配置されている旋回ピン２１５ａ、２１５ｂに旋回可能に連結されている。
第１の関節運動リンク２２０も、旋回ピン２１５ｂに旋回可能に連結されている。旋回ピン２１７ａ、２１７ｂは、旋回軸「Ｂ−Ｂ」（図３および図５）を規定し、レバー２２６ａ、２２６ｂのための支点として働き、第１の関節運動リンク２２０が長手方向「Ｆ」（図１０）に沿って移動させられると、レバー２２６ａ、２２６ｂは、それぞれ、旋回ピン２１７ａ、２１７ｂの周りを旋回する。特に、第１の関節運動リンク２２０が、図１０に示されるように、近位方向に移動させられると、遠位接合ハウジング２０２は、旋回ピン２１７ａ、２１７ｂの周りを旋回させられるレバー２２６ａ、２２６ｂとともに、旋回ピン２１５ａ、２１５ｂの周りを反時計回りの方向「Ｄ１」に旋回させられる。第１の関節運動リンク２２０の遠位方向移動は、遠位接合ハウジング２０２の旋回を、時計回りの方向「Ｄ２」に逆転させる。第１の関節運動リンク２２０はまた、第１の関節運動リンク２２０の長手方向移動が、中間接合ハウジング２０４に対して並進させられるように、弾力的材料または可撓材料から形成される。第１の関節運動リンク２２０の可撓性は、遠位接合ハウジング２０２および中間接合ハウジング２０４が関節運動させられる場合に、第１の関節運動リンク２２０が曲がることを可能にする。
図６〜図９を参照すると、遠位接合ハウジング２０２および中間接合ハウジング２０４の各々は、それぞれ、歯車表面２１９ａ、２１９ｂ、および２２１ａ、２２１ｂを含む。レバー２２６ａ、２２６ｂは、かみ合って係合されている歯車表面２１９ａ、２１９ｂおよび２２１ａ、２２１ｂを維持し、遠位接合ハウジング２０２が中間接合ハウジング２０４に対して角度のあるその位置を維持することを可能にする。
図５および図１１〜図１４を参照すると、駆動機構３３０が示されている。駆動機構３３０は、遠位伝達シャフト３３２と、中間伝達シャフト３３４と、近位伝達シャフト３３６とを含み、遠位伝達シャフト３３２、中間伝達シャフト３３４、および近位伝達シャフト３３６は、回転可能なコネクタースリーブ２１８の回転をエンドエフェクター３００に伝達する。遠位伝達シャフト３３２、中間伝達シャフト３３４、および近位伝達シャフト３３６は、それぞれ、遠位ハウジング２０２、中間ハウジング２０４、および近位ハウジング２０６内に配置され、その中で回転するように構成されている。近位伝達シャフト３３６は、その近位端において、回転可能なコネクタースリーブ２１８に連結されている。近位伝達シャフト３３６は、その遠位端において遠位歯車３３６ａを含み、この遠位歯車３３６ａは、中間伝達シャフト３３４の近位歯車３３４ｂに連結されている。中間伝達シャフト３３４はまた、その遠位端において遠位歯車３３４ａを含み、この遠位歯車３３４ａは、遠位伝達シャフト３３２の近位歯車３３２ｂに連結されている。
歯車３３２ｂ、３３４ａ、３３４ｂ、３３６ａは、実質的に三次元の楕円体の形状を有する（例えば、歯の各々は、二次元の楕円形を有する）ことにより、遠位接合ハウジング２０２および中間接合ハウジング２０４の関節運動中、伝達シャフト３３２、３３４、３３６が、互いに対して旋回させられている間に、歯車３３２ｂと３３４ａ、および歯車３３４ｂと３３６ａとが、互いにかみ合って係合することを可能にしている。歯車の各々は、第１、第２、および第３のハウジング（例えば、近位接合ハウジング２０６、中間接合ハウジング２０４、遠位接合ハウジング２０２）を通して回転駆動運動を伝達するために、球形の平歯車であり得る。特に、歯車３３２ｂ、３３４ａ、３３４ｂ、３３６ａは、図１１、図１２、および図１４に示されるように、遠位接合ハウジング２０２、中間接合ハウジング２０４、および近位接合ハウジング２０６の間に配置され、そのことは、歯車３３２ｂ、３３４ａ、３３４ｂ、３３６ａが、遠位接合ハウジング２０２および中間接合ハウジング２０４の旋回に関係なく、遠位伝達シャフト３３２、中間伝達シャフト３３４、および近位伝達シャフト３３６を連結することを可能にしている。
図５を参照すると、遠位ハウジング２０２はまた、エンドエフェクター３００を遠位ハウジング２０２に選択的に連結するためのフランジ２０３を含む。遠位伝達シャフト３３２はまた、キー止めされる遠位端３３２ａを含み、このキー止めされる遠位端３３２ａは、エンドエフェクター３００のコネクタースリーブ（示されない）を係合するような寸法および構成にされている。動作中、コネクタースリーブ２１８が回転させられると、次に、伝達シャフト３３２、３３４、３３６の各々は、歯車３３２ｂ、３３４ａ、３３４ｂ、３３６ａを介して回転させられ、歯車３３２ｂ、３３４ａ、３３４ｂ、３３６ａは、次に、キー止めされる遠位端３３２ａを回転させ、それにより、エンドエフェクター３００を作動させる。
