式(1)中、R1〜R10はそれぞれ独立に、水素原子、重水素原子、フッ素原子、CN基、置換又は非置換の炭素数1〜8のアルキル基、置換又は非置換の環構成原子数6〜30のアリール基、及び置換又は非置換の環構成原子数5〜30のヘテロアリール基からなる群から選択される基を表す。
但し、式(1)において、R1〜R4及びR5〜R8のいずれか少なくとも1つが、好ましくはR2、R3、R6、及びR7のうちのいずれか1つ又は2つが、さらに好ましくは、R2、R3、R6、及びR7のうち1つが、あるいはR2及びR6、R3及びR7、R2及びR7、又はR3及びR6が、独立に、下記式(2):
式(2)中、*は式(1)のアントラセン環との結合部位を示し;Aは単結合、置換もしくは非置換の環構成原子数6〜30のアリーレン基、又は置換もしくは非置換の環構成原子数5〜30のヘテロアリーレン基、好ましくは、単結合又は非置換のアリーレン基、特に好ましくは単結合を表し;Xは酸素原子又は硫黄原子、好ましくは酸素原子であり;R11〜R17はそれぞれ独立に、水素原子、重水素原子、フッ素原子、CN基、置換又は非置換の炭素数1〜8のアルキル基、置換又は非置換の環構成原子数6〜30のアリール基、及び置換又は非置換の環構成原子数5〜30のヘテロアリール基からなる群から選択される。R11〜R17は独立に水素又は重水素であることが特に好ましい。Aが示すアリーレン基は、独立に、フェニレン、ビフェニレン、又はナフチレン基であることが好ましい。
式(3)中、A、X、R1〜R17は上の式(1)及び(2)について定義したとおりである。

式(5)中、R1、R3、R4、R5〜8、及びR11〜R17、並びにXは式(1)について定義したとおりであり;R21及びR22はそれぞれ独立に、重水素原子、炭素数1〜8のアルキル基、置換又は非置換の環構成炭素原子数6〜30のアリール基、及び置換又は非置換の環構成炭素原子数5〜30のヘテロアリール基、特に好ましくはそれぞれ独立に重水素原子、炭素数1〜8のアルキル基、又は非置換の環構成炭素原子数6〜30のアリール基を表し、m及びnはそれぞれ独立に0〜5のいずれかの整数、好ましくは0又は1、特に好ましくは0を表す。Xは酸素原子であることが好ましい。
式(6)において、X、R21、R22、m、及びnは上記式(5)について定義したとおりである。Xは酸素原子であることが好ましい。R21及びR22は独立に、炭素数1〜8のアルキル基、又は非置換の環構成炭素原子数6〜30のアリール基であることが好ましい。
有機ELデバイスは、一般に、第1電極と第2電極およびこの間に配置された1つ以上の有機物層を含み、第1電極及び第2電極のうち少なくとも1つが光透過性電極である。これら2つの電極の間に電圧を印加して、有機層にアノードから正孔を注入し、カソードから電子を注入すると、正孔と電子が有機物層中で再結合し、再結合によって生じる励起子のエネルギーを利用して有機物層中に含まれる発光体すなわち発光材料が発光する。有機ELデバイスは、その有機物層からの発光を、光透過性電極側から取り出す構造を有する。有機ELデバイスのデバイス構造は一つに限定されず、様々なデバイス構造が提案されている。発光方式についても、トップ・エミッション型、ボトム・エミッション型、及び両面エミッション(両面発光)型などが知られている。本発明の有機ELデバイスの有機物層は1層からなる単層構造であってもよいが、発光層を含む2層以上の多層構造であってもよい。本発明の有機ELデバイスの有機物層が多層構造を有する場合は、例えば、正孔注入層、正孔輸送層、発光層、電子輸送層などが積層された構造であってもよい。さらに、電極表面を平坦化するための平坦化層、正孔阻止層、電子阻止層、及び励起子阻止層などの様々な層を設けて、有機ELデバイスの特性を向上させることができることが知られている。上述した本発明の化合物は、全ての発光方式及び構造の有機ELデバイスにおいて用いることができる。したがって、本発明の化合物を含む有機ELデバイスは、その発光の方式及びデバイス構造は特定のものに限定されない。また、本発明の上記化合物は、有機ELデバイスのための発光材料、特に青色発光材料として有用である。
最初に、予めパターンを形成し洗浄しておいたITOガラス基板に、UV-オゾン(O3)を用いた表面処理を行った。ITOガラス基板のITO層(第1の電極)の厚さは、約150 nmだった。表面処理の後、ガラス基板を、有機層を形成させるための蒸着装置に入れて、正孔注入層、正孔輸送層(HTL)、発光層、及び電子輸送層を1つずつ、約10-4〜約10-6 Paの真空度において堆積させた。
正孔注入層は、4,4’,4”-トリス(N,N-2-ナフチルアミノ)トリフェニルアミン(2-TNATA)を用いて、約60 nmの層厚さに形成した。正孔輸送層(HTL)は、N,N’-ビス(ナフチル-1-イル)-N,N’-ジフェニル-4,4’-ベンジジン(NPD)を用いて、約30 nmの層厚さに形成した。発光層は、発光ホスト材料として化合物1を、ドーパント材料として以下に示す化合物D−1を用いて、約25 nmの層厚さに形成した。ドーパント材料のドーピング量は、ホスト材料の総量を基準にして5質量%だった。電子輸送層は、Alq3を使用して約25 nmの層厚さに形成した。
次に、基板を、金属層を形成するための蒸着装置に移し、電子注入層及び第2の電極を約10-4〜約10-6 Paの真空度において堆積させ、それにより有機ELデバイスを作製した。
電子注入層はフッ化リチウム(LiF)を用いて約1 nmの層厚さに形成し、第2の電極はアルミニウムを用いて約100 nmの層厚さに形成した。こうして例1の有機ELデバイスを上述した方法により作製した。
比較例1の有機ELデバイスは、化合物1に代えて化合物Ref-1を用いて発光層(EML)を形成したことを除いて、例1に記載した方法と実質的に同じ方法を行うことによって作製した。

- 下記一般式(1):
で表される化合物。 - R9及びR10は同一であるか又は異なり、それぞれ置換又は非置換の環構成原子数6〜30のアリール基である、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の化合物。
- R9及び/又はR10が置換アリール基である場合、その置換基が置換又は非置換の環構成炭素原子数6〜30のアリール基及び置換又は非置換の環構成原子数5〜30のヘテロアリール基からなる群から選択される、請求項4に記載の化合物。
- 請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載の化合物からなる、有機電子デバイス用材料。
- 前記有機電子デバイスが有機エレクトロルミネッセンスデバイスである、請求項8に記載の材料。
- 有機エレクトロルミネッセンスデバイスの発光材料である、請求項9に記載の材料。
- 請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載の化合物を含む、有機エレクトロルミネッセンスデバイス。
