Abstract
Description
一態様では、コンテンツ配信ネットワーク(CDN)からのストリーミング・メディア・コンテンツを部分単位又は「塊」単位で記録し、ストリーム・マニフェスト・ファイルを生成及び/又は記憶するメディア・クライアントが開示される。一実施例では、ライブ・メディア・コンテンツ・ストリームの部分(又は塊)が、完全なコンテンツ・ストリームが全体として圧縮されて記憶されることを必要とするよりもむしろ、後の再生のために個別のコンテンツ要素として圧縮され、記憶される。このようにして、メディア・クライアントは制限されていないストリーム(例えばライブ映像コンテンツなど)を記録することができる。「塊化」された状態で記録する方が一般には、従来のコンテンツ記録方式よりは堅牢であり、中断及び/又は破損した塊は、他の塊の復号と干渉することなく後で容易に修正、スキップ及び/又は差し替えすることができる。さらに、再生時、破損した又は欠落した塊は他の塊の再生に悪影響を与えない。
以下、本開示の装置及び方法の実施例について詳細に述べる。これらの実施例について、マルチプル・システム・オペレータ(MSO)、デジタル・ネットワーク機能、IP配信機能、及び複数のクライアント装置/CPEを有する前述のハイブリッド・ファイバ同軸(HFC)ケーブル・アーキテクチャの文脈で説明するが、本開示の一般原理及び利点は、デジタル・メディア・データ(例えばテキスト、映像及び/又は音声)を配信するように構成された他の種類のネットワーク及びアーキテクチャにも拡大適用可能である。そのような他のネットワーク又はアーキテクチャは、ブロードバンド、狭帯域、有線又は無線、又はその他のものであってよい。
典型的な1つのコンテンツ配信ネットワーク構成において、1つ又は複数のコンテンツ供給元から1つ又は複数の配信サーバを介して顧客施設内機器(CPE)にコンテンツが提供される。一実装形態では、配信サーバとVODサーバとCPEとは、ベアラ(例えばHFC又は衛星)ネットワークを介して接続されている。ネットワーク・ヘッドエンド(上記の構成要素のうちの様々なものを含む)も、ゲートウェイ又はその他の同様のインターフェースを介して、インターネットなどの管理されていない外部インターネットワークに接続されることができる。

上記で言及したように、本開示の様々な実施例は、(i)1つ又は複数のデータ構造(例えばストリーム・マニフェスト・ファイル)を介してネットワーク内にストリーミング・メディア・コンテンツを記録し、(ii)そのデータ構造からメディア・コンテンツを後で再構築するための方式を対象としている。
次に図5を参照しながら、本開示により構成された顧客施設内機器220(CPE)の一実施例について詳細に説明する。本開示の文脈におけるCPE220は、一般に、オペレーティング・システムを走らせるコンピュータ化された装置を含む。CPE220は、プロセッサ・サブシステム502と、メモリ・サブシステム504と、ユーザ・インターフェース506と、ディスプレイ508と、1つ又は複数のネットワーク・インターフェース510とを含む。

前に触れたように、サービス・プロバイダにとっての収入の重要な1つの流れは、広告閲覧のそれである。より直接的には、サービス・プロバイダがその広告の予め定められた閲覧数を保証及び/又は確認することができれば、商業広告主は価格プレミアムを進んで支払う。したがって、ある種のビジネス・モデルにおいては、動的広告挿入及び/又は広告追跡について商業的な動機づけがあり得る。
Claims (20)
- ローカル・ストリーム・マニフェストからメディア・ストリームを再生する方法であって、
前記メディア・ストリームに関連付けられたローカル・ストリーム・マニフェストを取り出すことと、
前記ローカル・ストリーム・マニフェストに少なくとも部分的に基づいて、ローカル・メモリから1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊を取り出すことと、
前記ローカル・ストリーム・マニフェストに基づいて、取り出された前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊から前記メディア・ストリームを再構築することと、
を含む方法。 - 前記ローカル・ストリーム・マニフェストは、1つ又は複数のメタデータ要素と、前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊が前記ローカル・メモリに記憶されている場所のリストとを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊は、前記1つ又は複数のメタデータ要素に少なくとも部分的に基づいて前記場所のリストのサブセットから取り出される、請求項2に記載の方法。
- 前記1つ又は複数のメタデータ要素は、解像度とコーデックの種類とのうちの少なくとも1つを含む、請求項3に記載の方法。
- 前記ローカル・ストリーム・マニフェストは、広告挿入タイムスタンプの少なくとも1つの表示を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記広告挿入タイムスタンプにおいて、1つ又は複数の広告の塊が動的に置き換えられる、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 前記1つ又は複数の広告の塊は、1つ又は複数のユーザ選好に応じて選択される、請求項6に記載の方法。
- 1つ又は複数の広告の塊が再生されたときに、前記サービス・プロバイダに報告することをさらに含む、請求項5に記載の方法。
- ライブ・メディア・ストリームを記録する方法であって、
受信する第2の時点の実質的近傍内の第1の時点に生成された前記ライブ・メディア・ストリームに関連付けられたネットワーク・データ構造を受信することと、
前記データ構造に少なくとも部分的に基づいてサービス・プロバイダから1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分をダウンロードすることと、
ローカル・データ構造を生成することと、
前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分のそれぞれをローカル・メモリ内の対応する場所に記憶することと、
前記ローカル・データ構造を、前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊のそれぞれの前記対応する場所によって更新することと、
を含む方法。 - 前記ネットワーク・データ構造は、1つ又は複数のメタデータ要素と前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分をダウンロードすることができる場所のリストとを含むストリーム・マニフェストを含む、請求項9に記載の方法。
- 前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分は、前記1つ又は複数のメタデータ要素に少なくとも部分的に基づいて決定される場所の前記リストのサブセットからダウンロードされる、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分のうちの少なくとも第1の部分が映像コンテンツを含み、前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分のうちの少なくとも第2の部分が二次コンテンツを含む、請求項9に記載の方法。
- 前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分のうちの少なくとも第1の部分が第1の解像度による映像コンテンツを含み、前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分のうちの少なくとも第2の部分が第2の解像度による映像コンテンツを含む、請求項9に記載の方法。
- 前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分の少なくとも第1の部分が第1のアクセス制御制限を有するコンテンツを含み、前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツ部分のうちの少なくとも第2の部分が第2のアクセス制御制限を有するコンテンツを含む、請求項9に記載の方法。
- 顧客施設内機器(CPE)であって、
サービス・プロバイダ・ネットワークと通信するように構成されたネットワーク・インターフェースと、
ユーザ・インターフェースと、
前記ネットワーク・インターフェース及び前記ユーザ・インターフェースとデータ通信するプロセッサと、
1つ又は複数の命令を含む非一時的コンピュータ可読媒体であって、当該1つ又は複数の命令は、前記プロセッサによって実行されると前記CPEに、
1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊を含むライブ・メディア・コンテンツを配信するように構成された動的に変化するマニフェストを含むネットワーク・ストリーム・マニフェストに従って、前記サービス・プロバイダ・ネットワークから前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊をダウンロードさせ、
前記ネットワーク・ストリーム・マニフェストに少なくとも部分的に基づいてローカル・ストリーム・マニフェストを生成させ、
前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊のそれぞれをローカル記憶装置に記憶させる
ように構成された、非一時的コンピュータ可読媒体と、
を含むCPE。 - 前記プロセッサによって実行されると前記CPEに、前記CPEに関連付けられた加入者が前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊をダウンロードする権限を有することを検証させるように構成された1つ又は複数の命令をさらに含む、請求項15に記載のCPE。
- 前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊のうちの少なくとも第1の部分が映像コンテンツを含み、前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊のうちの少なくとも第2の部分が広告コンテンツを含む、請求項16に記載のCPE。

前記ローカル・ストリーム・マニフェストに従ってローカル・メモリから1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊を取り出させ、
取り出された前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊に少なくとも部分的に基づいてメディア・コンテンツ・ストリームを再構築させ、
前記メディア・コンテンツ・ストリームを表示させる
ように構成された、非一時的コンピュータ可読媒体と、
を含むCPE。 - 前記プロセッサによって実行されると前記CPEに、前記加入者が前記メディア・コンテンツ・ストリームを表示する権限を有することを検証させるように構成された1つ又は複数の命令をさらに含む、請求項18に記載のCPE。
- 前記1つ又は複数のコンテンツの塊は、少なくとも1つの解像度とコーデックの種類とを識別するように構成されたメタデータに少なくとも部分的に基づいて、前記メディア・コンテンツ・ストリームに関連付けられたコンテンツの塊のサブセットから選択される、請求項18に記載のCPE。
