Abstract
Description
微結晶性セルロースの製造において使用することができる、安価なセルロース材料に対する必要性も存在する。微結晶性セルロースは、食品、医薬品、化粧品、および工業用途において広く使用され、部分的に脱重合されたセルロースの精製された結晶形態である。広範囲の漂白後の加工ステップを追加することなく、微結晶性セルロース生産におけるクラフト繊維を使用することは、これまで、制限されていた。微結晶性セルロース生産は、一般に、高度に精製されたセルロース出発材料を必要とし、それは、セルロース鎖の非晶質セグメントを除去するために酸加水分解される。Battistaらの米国特許第2,978,446号およびBraunsteinらの米国特許第5,346,589号を参照されたい。「レベルオフDP」と呼ばれるセルロースの非晶質セグメントの除去の際の鎖の低重合度は、しばしば、微結晶性セルロース生産の開始点であり、その数値は、主に、セルロース繊維源および加工に左右される。標準クラフト繊維からの非結晶セグメントの溶解により、一般に、1)残留不純物、2)十分に長い結晶セグメントの不足、または3)典型的には、200〜400の範囲の高すぎる重合度を有するセルロース繊維をもたらすということの少なくとも1つのため、繊維は大半の用途に適さなくなる程度まで分解され、微結晶性セルロースの生産に使用できるようにされる。例えば、良好な純度および/またはより低いレベルオフDP値を有するクラフト繊維は、ドラフト繊維が、微結晶性セルロース生産および用途においてより高い多用性を提供し得るため望ましいであろう。
本開示では、説明した特性のうちの1つまたは複数を有する繊維は、単に、典型的なクラフトパルプ化の修飾および漂白プロセスにより生産することができる。本開示の繊維は、上述の公知の修飾クラフト繊維に関連する多くの制限を克服する。
