Abstract
Description
(合金の組成および処理)
1つの三元合金および2つの四元合金を、Al‐0.06Zr‐0.06Sc(「合金1」)(比較例)、Al‐0.06Zr‐0.05Sc‐0.01Er(「合金2」)、およびAl‐0.06Zr‐0.04Sc‐0.02Er(「合金3」)の原子パーセント(「at.%」)単位の組成式で鋳造した。直流プラズマ発光分光法(direct current plasma emission spectroscopy:「DCPMS」)(ATI Wah Chang社, Albany, OR)および3D局部電極原子プローブ(3-X local-electrode atom-probe:「LEAP」)断層撮影法によって測定された鋳放し状態の合金1〜3の組成を表1に提示する。合金のケイ素および鉄の含有量はそれぞれDCPMS技術の検出限界の0.005at.%未満および0.0025at.%未満であった。
(解析技術)
1μm表面仕上げに研磨された非エッチング試料の均質化された微細構造は、エネルギ分散X線分光法(EDS)用のOxford Instruments社製INCAx-act検出器を装備した日立S3400N‐II顕微鏡を用いてSEMにより撮像した。析出物形態は、200kVの日立8100透過型電子顕微鏡を使用して研究した。時効処理した試料を100〜200μmの厚さに研磨することによってTEMフォイルを作成し、そこから3mm径の円板を打ち抜いた。これらの円板をStruers社製TenuPol‐5と−40℃のメタノール中に10体積%の過塩素酸溶液を使用して、約DC20Vのツインジェット電子研磨によって薄肉化した。
(均質化したままの微細構造解析)
合金の均質化された微細構造は、直径およそ1〜2mmの柱状粒から構成される。SEMは、Al‐Zr母合金の不完全な溶融のため溶融物から維持される粒内Al3Zrフレークの存在を全ての合金で示している(図1A)。フレークの概略組成は、半定量的EDSによって、すなわち厳密な較正無しで得られた。それは、Al3Zrのストイキオメトリを確認し、かつフレークにErおよびScのどちらも含まれないことを明らかにする。表1の合金の名目上のZr濃度と測定されたZr濃度との間の差は、これらのZr富化フレークの結果であると考えられ、それら合金に均等に分布しておらず、DCPMSに使用される300mm3の材料から除外される可能性もあった。Al3Zrフレークは3D LEAP断層撮影再構成の小さい解析ボリュームには存在しなかった。したがって、各合金の3D LEAP断層撮影データセット(表1)からの測定Zr濃度の平均は、時効中の析出のためにマトリクス内で利用可能なZrを示す。
(等時時効処理)
ビッカース微小硬度および導電率によって監視した、25℃h‐1での段階的な等時時効処理中の合金1〜3の析出挙動を図2に示す。合金1(Al‐0.06Zr‐0.06Sc)では、微小硬度および導電率の急激な増加に反映される通り、析出は300℃で開始する。微小硬度は350℃で初めてピークになり、582±5MPaの値に達した後、400℃で543±16MPaになるまで低下する。微小硬度は425℃で再び増加し、450℃で597±16MPaの2回目のピークに達する。導電率は300℃から375℃まで連続的に増加した後、375℃および400℃で33.94±0.09MSm-1および33.99±0.09MSm-1の値の停滞状態に達する。425℃で、導電率は34.75±0.10MSm-1に増加し、450℃で34.92±0.11MSm-1のピークに達する。450℃を超えると、微小硬度および導電率はどちらも析出物の溶解により急速に低下する。
(400℃での等温時効処理)
ビッカース微小硬度および導電率によって監視した、400℃で0.5分から256日までの時効時間の等温時効処理中の合金の析出挙動を図4に示す。合金1(Al0.06‐Zr‐0.06Sc)のビッカース微小硬度は、時効時間の全範囲にわたって著しく増加せず、それは、等時時効処理によって達成される強度(図2参照)を考慮すると驚きである。合金1の導電率は400℃の時効処理の最初の0.5時間で変化せず、その後の64日間にわたって着実に増大する。Scの濃度が0.06〜0.07at.%の希薄Al‐Sc合金の小さい強度は、不適切な溶質の過飽和の結果であることが以前から観察されており、結果的に大きい析出物の小さい数密度がもたらされ、それは材料を著しく強化しない。およそ50nmの大きい半径を有する析出物は、非平衡突起付き立方体様形態を有する。この形態は、マトリクスおよび析出物の弾性定数の異方性に順応する成長の不安定さのためであると考えられる。
(2段等温時効処理)
次の2段階熱処理を実施した。すなわち、(i)400℃で合金1の微小硬度を向上する。(ii)合金2および3のナノ構造およびしたがって微小硬度を最適化する。
〔合金4および5〕
(合金の組成および処理)
2つの合金を、Al‐0.06Zr‐0.06Sc‐0.04Si(「合金4」)(比較例)およびAl‐0.06Zr‐(0.05Sc‐0.01Er)‐0.04Si(「合金5」)の原子パーセント(「at.%」)単位の組成式で作成した。合金4および5を99.99at.%の純Al、99.995at.%のSi、およびAl‐0.96at.%Sc、Al‐3at.%Zr、およびAl‐78at.%Er母合金から900℃の温度まで誘導溶融した。2つの合金を200℃に予熱した鋳鉄鋳型に流し込んだ。直流プラズマ発光分光法(「DCPMS」)および三次元局部電極原子プローブ(「3D LEAP」)断層撮影法によって測定された鋳放し状態の合金4および5の組成を表2に提示する。合金4および5の不純物の鉄の含有量は0.006at.%であった。
(微細構造の観察)
1μm表面仕上げに研磨された試料の微細構造は、エネルギ分散X線分光法(EDS)用のOxford Instruments社製INCAx‐act検出器を装備した日立S3400N‐II顕微鏡を用いてSEMにより撮像した。研磨された試料は次いで、それらの粒界を露呈させるために、ケラー試薬を用いて30秒間エッチングした。ビッカース微小硬度の測定は、Duramin‐5微小硬度計(Struers社)で、1μ表面仕上げに研磨された試料に5秒間加えられる200gの荷重を使用して実行した。試料毎に幾つかの結晶粒にわたって15回の押し込みを行った。
3D LEAP断層撮影データはソフトウェアプログラムIVAS3.4.1(Cameca社)により解析した。マトリックス/析出物異相界面をAl等濃度面により描き、近接ヒストグラム(プロキシグラム)法により組成プロファイルを得た。全ての量に対する測定誤差は計数統計および標準誤差伝搬技術に基づいて算出した。
(クリープ実験)
直径10mmおよび高さ20mmの円筒状試料に、400±1℃で定荷重圧縮クリープ実験を実施した。試料を3ゾーン炉で加熱し、試料から1cm以内に配置した熱電対により温度を確認した。試料を窒化ホウ素潤滑アルミナプラテンの間に配置し、死荷重を用いて圧縮クリープフレームでNi超合金のラムによって一軸圧縮を掛けた。試料を6μmの分解能を持つ線形可変変位トランスデューサにより監視し、結果的に3×10‐4の最小の測定可能な歪み増分を得た。測定可能な定常状態の変位速度が適切な期間にわたって達成されたときに、加えられる荷重が増大した。したがって、単一の試料は一連の増大する応力レベルに対して最小限のクリープ速度を生じ、その終了時に歪みは11%を超えなかった。所与の荷重における歪み速度は、二次または定常状態クリープ領域の歪み対時間プロットの勾配を測定することによって得た。
(微細構造)
ピーク時効処理されたErを含まない合金(合金4)およびErを含む合金(合金5)の微細構造を図7aおよび図7bにそれぞれ示す。両合金の結晶粒は冷却方向に沿って半径方向に伸長し、鋳造合金に対して予想される通り、ビレットの中心の結晶粒は小さい。合金5は合金4より小さい結晶粒を有し、ビレット断面の結晶粒を係数することによって求めた0.5±0.1結晶粒mm‐2と比較して、より大きい結晶粒密度2.1±0.2を持つ。合金5のより微細な結晶粒構造は、図7Cに見える、痕跡量のScおよびZrを持つ直径約2μmの粒界Al3Er析出物のためであり、組成は半定量的EDSによって確認される。これらの粒子は凝固後および/または均質化中の結晶粒の成長を阻害する。そのような一次析出物は合金4では観察されず、凝固および熱処理中に合金5の溶解限度を超えたことを示した。ScおよびZrの添加は、二元Al‐Er合金中のErの0.046at.%の溶解度を著しく低下させた。3D LEAP断層撮影法によって測定したピーク時効処理されたEr含有合金(合金5)のマトリクス中のEr濃度は0.0044±0.0005at.%である。
(ピーク時効処理された合金のナノ構造)
300℃で4時間および425℃で8時間の等温時効処理後の合金4および5のナノ構造を、3D LEAP断層撮影法を用いて比較した。Erを含まない合金(合金4)の球状析出物は、図8に示す通り、Zr‐富化シェルによって包囲されたSc‐富化コアで構成される。析出物は2.4±0.5nmの平均半径、2.5±0.5×1022m‐3の数密度、および0.259±0.007%の体積分率を有する。Er含有合金(合金5)の球状析出物は、Zr富化シェルで包囲されたErおよびScの両方が豊富なコアで構成され、2.3±0.5nmの平均半径<R>、2.0±0.3×1022m‐3の数密度Nv、および0.280±0.006%の体積分率φを有する。ケイ素は析出物相を分割し、どちらの合金でも析出物コアまたはシェルに対する選好を示さない。
(ピーク時効処理条件)
合金4および5の鋳放し状態の微小硬度値はそれぞれ256±4MPaおよび270±8MPaである。これらの微小硬度値は、匹敵する210〜240MPaの溶質含有量を持つ従前の鋳放し状態の希薄Al‐Sc‐X合金より大きい。大きい微小硬度値は、おそらく、300℃で時効処理したAl‐0.06Zr‐0.06Sc(at.%)合金における析出物の核形成を促進するSiの添加の結果として、早期クラスタ化または析出の証拠である。均質化およびピーク時効処理の後、本合金の微小硬度値はそれぞれ627±10MPaおよび606±20MPaに増大する。
(過時効処理状態)
合金5の拡散クリープ領域でより多くのデータを収集するために、別のピーク時効処理された試料に、400℃でより低い6MPaの負荷応力から開始する2回目の一連のクリープ実験を実施した。1.2±0.2×10-8s-1の略一定の歪み速度を生じる6〜8.5MPaの範囲の4つの応力について、圧縮クリープデータを325時間にわたって収集した。ここで、誤差は結果的に得られる4つの歪み速度の標準偏差である。増大する負荷応力に対する一定の歪み速度は、クリープ試験中の微細構造の発達すなわち結晶粒の成長を示している。所与の応力における拡散クリープ速度は結晶粒の粗大化と共に低下するので、結晶粒の成長は、6から8.5MPaの間で測定される略一定の歪み速度を説明することができる。

- アルミニウムと、
スカンジウムと、
ジルコニウムと、
エルビウムと、
を含むアルミニウム合金。 - 実質的に前記アルミニウムと、前記スカンジウムと、前記ジルコニウムと、前記エルビウムとから構成される、請求項1に記載のアルミニウム合金。
- 前記アルミニウム合金に鉄が不純物として存在する、請求項1または2のいずれかに記載のアルミニウム合金。
- 前記スカンジウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.1at.%を構成し、
前記ジルコニウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.1at.%を構成し、
前記エルビウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.05at.%を構成する、
請求項1ないし3のいずれかに記載のアルミニウム合金。 - 前記スカンジウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.08at.%を構成し、
前記ジルコニウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.08at.%を構成し、
前記エルビウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.04at.%を構成する、
請求項1ないし3のいずれかに記載のアルミニウム合金。 - 前記スカンジウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.06at.%を構成し、
前記ジルコニウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.06at.%を構成し、
前記エルビウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.02at.%を構成する、
請求項1ないし3のいずれかに記載のアルミニウム合金。 - ケイ素をさらに含む、請求項1に記載のアルミニウム合金。
- 実質的に前記アルミニウムと、前記スカンジウムと、前記ジルコニウムと、前記エルビウムと、前記ケイ素とから構成される、請求項7に記載のアルミニウム合金。
- 前記アルミニウム合金に鉄が不純物として存在する、請求項8に記載のアルミニウム合金。
- 前記スカンジウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.1at.%を構成し、
前記ジルコニウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.1at.%を構成し、
前記エルビウムが前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.05at.%を構成し、
前記ケイ素が前記アルミニウム合金の最大約0.1at.%を構成する、
請求項7ないし9のいずれかに記載のアルミニウム合金。 - スカンジウム、ジルコニウム、エルビウム、および任意選択的にケイ素を添加したアルミニウムの溶融塊を形成するステップと、
前記溶融塊を冷却して固体塊を形成するステップと、
第1熱処理ステップ中に、前記固体塊を約275℃から約325℃の範囲の温度に第1の所定時間だけ維持するステップと、
前記第1熱処理ステップ後に、前記固体塊を約375℃から約425℃の範囲の温度に第2の所定時間だけ維持するステップと、
を含む、アルミニウム合金を形成するための方法。 - 前記第1の所定時間が約2時間ないし約8時間であり、前記第2の所定時間が約4時間ないし約12時間である、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記スカンジウムが前記溶融塊の最大約0.1at.%を構成し、
前記ジルコニウムが前記溶融塊の最大約0.1at.%を構成し、
前記エルビウムが前記溶融塊の最大約0.05at.%を構成し、
前記ケイ素が前記溶融塊の約0ないし約0.1at.%を構成する、
請求項11または12のいずれかに記載の方法。 - 前記溶融塊が実質的に前記アルミニウムと、前記スカンジウムと、前記ジルコニウムと、前記エルビウムと、前記ケイ素とから構成される、請求項11ないし13のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記第1熱処理ステップの前に、前記固体塊を約600℃ないし約660℃の温度で約1時間ないし約20時間均質化するステップをさらに含む、請求項11ないし14のいずれかに記載の方法。
