Abstract
Description
本発明は、アルコールの存在下で安定性を示す高分子の膜の組成物(又はポリマー膜組成物)、この高分子の膜を製造する方法、およびこの高分子の膜を利用して少なくとも1種のアルコールを含む炭化水素の流れ(又はストリーム)を含む炭化水素供給物流(又は炭化水素原料流もしくは炭化水素フィードストリーム)の成分の分離を制御するための方法に関する。より具体的には、限定を意図しないが、本発明は、高分子の膜の組成物に関し、そしてその芳香族化合物および脂肪族化合物ならびに少なくとも1種のアルコール(典型的にはエタノール)を含む炭化水素供給物流からエタノールおよび芳香族化合物を分離するための方法(又はプロセス)における使用に関する。
逆浸透、浸透気化(パーベーパレーション(pervaporation))および膜抽出(パーストラクション(perstraction))などの高分子の膜に基づく分離方法が、当該技術分野において知られている。浸透気化法では、液体および/または蒸気の供給物(又は原料もしくはフィード)の、所望の供給物成分、例えば、芳香族成分が、膜によって優先的に吸収される。膜は、典型的に、複数の液体供給物の混合物から構成される流れに片面が曝され、減圧が、典型的に、膜の反対側にかけられ、それによって、吸収された成分が、膜を通って移動し、溶液−拡散機構によって膜の反対側から蒸気として除去される。濃度勾配の駆動力が、膜の供給物側または上流側から膜の透過物側または下流側へと、所望の成分を選択的に膜に通すように設定される。
本発明は、ポリエーテルエポキシ樹脂を含む高分子の芳香族選択性の膜、この高分子の膜を製造する方法、およびこの高分子の膜を利用して、供給物流(又は原料流もしくはフィードストリーム)の成分を分離するための制御可能な方法に関する。特に、本発明の高分子の膜は、少なくとも1種のアルコール、典型的にはエタノールを含む供給物流(又は原料流もしくはフィードストリーム)を含む芳香族および脂肪族の炭化水素を含んで構成される炭化水素供給物流(又は炭化水素原料流もしくは炭化水素フィードストリーム)からエタノールおよび芳香族化合物を選択的に分離するための方法(又はプロセス)に用いられ得る。
本明細書において用いられるように「炭化水素」という用語は、主に炭化水素の性質を有する有機化合物を意味する。したがって、1つ以上の非炭化水素基(例えば、硫黄または酸素)を含む有機化合物は、この定義の範囲内である。本明細書において用いられるように「芳香族炭化水素」または「芳香族」(又は芳香族化合物(aromatic))という用語は、少なくとも1つの芳香環を含む炭化水素ベースの有機化合物を意味する。環は、縮合されていても、架橋されていても、または縮合と架橋の組合せであってもよい。好ましい実施形態において、炭化水素供給物から分離される芳香族種は、1つまたは2つの芳香環を含む。「非芳香族炭化水素」または「非芳香族」(又は非芳香族化合物(non-aromatic))または「飽和」(又は飽和化合物(saturate))という用語は、芳香族コアを有していない炭化水素ベースの有機化合物を意味する。「非芳香族化合物」および「脂肪族化合物」という用語は、本明細書中において同義的に使用される。
膜エポキシド材料のいくつかの群を開発して試験し、アルコールを含む供給物に対するそれらの安定性を示した。以下のデータは、本発明の一態様を示すために提供される。試験用のポリマー試料を調製するのに使用されるエポキシおよびアミンの頭字語(又はアクロニム)および説明が表1に示される。
図1を参照すると、本発明に係るポリマーで被覆された多孔質(又はポーラス)の基材膜システムが示されている。本発明の全ての適用例に必要とされるわけではないが、多孔質の基材が、物理的な支持体および向上した膜の完全性のために使用されてもよい。層(12)の下に配置されるものとして本明細書において示される基材(10)が、例えばセラミックモノリスなどの多孔質の材料を含む。基材(10)は、これ以降に詳述される高分子の膜の物理的な支持体に好適な多孔質の材料を含むと特徴付けられる。基材の多孔性は、分離のために使用されることになる供給物材料に基づいて選択される。すなわち、基材の細孔径(又はポアサイズ)は、膜システム全体の透過物であることが意図される材料の透過をほとんどまたは全く妨げないように選択される。セラミック基材が、例えば、ガソリン、ディーゼル、およびナフサなどの炭化水素に対して実質的に透過性であることも好ましい。細孔径分布の構造が非対称であり、例えば、より小さい細孔径のコーティングが、より大きい細孔径の無機構造上に支持されることも好ましい。
TAMTGE−D400プレポリマーの合成
芳香族エポキシ−ポリエーテルアミン架橋膜ポリマーを、18.02gのトリス(4−ヒドロキシフェニル)メタントリグリシジルエーテル(すなわちTAMTGE)(Aldrich)および11.75gのポリ(プロピレングリコール)ビス(2−アミノプロピルエーテル)(Mnが約400のD400(Aldrich/Huntsman))を当量で用いて作製した。これらを、丸底フラスコ中で組み合わせて、60℃で1時間反応させた。この混合物を、低温のトルエンで急冷したところ、20℃で1.8cPの粘度を有するプレポリマーの25%溶液が得られた。最終的なエポキシ:NHの比率は1.0であった。
DENO−D400プレポリマーの合成
脂肪族エポキシ−ポリエーテルアミン架橋膜ポリマーを、10.50gの1,2,7,8−ジエポキシ−n−オクタン(すなわちDENO)(Aldrich)および14.40gのポリプロピレングリコールビス2アミノプロピルエーテル(D400)(Aldrich/Huntsman)をほぼ当量で用いて作製した。1.20gのエタノール触媒を含む250mlの圧力フラスコ中でこれらを組み合わせて、100℃の油浴中で1時間15分反応させた。この混合物を、低温のトルエンで急冷したところ、25℃で3.3cPの粘度を有するプレポリマーの25%溶液が得られた。最終的なエポキシ:NHの比率は1.05であった。
TAMTGE−D400によるモノリスコーティング
公称0.01μmの表面多孔性を有するCeraMem(登録商標)の0.13m2の試験モノリス(CeraMem(登録商標)Corporation,Newton,MA)を、実施例1から調製された、新たに作製されたTAMTGE−D400プレポリマー溶液で被覆した。過剰な浸透を防止するために多孔質モノリスの外側で約8kPagの窒素の圧力を維持しながら、プレポリマー溶液をモノリス流路に充填したり、モノリス流路から排出させたりするのを可能にするハウジングにモノリスを取り付けた。モノリス流路に、90mlのプレポリマー溶液を完全に充填し、タッピングし、または振動させて、全ての流路が捕捉された気泡を確実に含まないようにし、次に、流路を、ポリマーの薄膜を残して排水した。窒素背圧を解放し、流路に約2分間空気を流して、あらゆる残留液体を流路から取り除き、部分的に溶媒を蒸発させた。モノリスを、ハウジングから取り出し、周囲空気中で一晩乾燥させた。被覆されたモノリスを、窒素パージされたオーブンに入れて、2℃/分で30℃から150℃まで、次に、150℃で60分間加熱することによって、ポリマーを予備硬化(pre−cure)させた。モノリスにおけるポリマーの重量は5.73gであった。ハウジング中のモノリスの減圧試験は、周囲圧力の流路で、5分間にわたって12〜15kPaの、ハウジングのシェル側における分離の際のごくわずかな圧力損失を伴う、良好な膜の完全性を示した。第2のコーティングが考えられたが、必須ではなかった。ポリマーの最終的な硬化を、150℃で12時間保持することによって行った。最終的なポリマーの重量は、5.58gまたは50.7g/m2(0.11m2の実面積を仮定している)であり、これは、約50μmのポリマー厚さに相当していた。最終的な減圧試験により、最初の試験と同じ結果が確認された。また、膜の完全性を、減圧をシェル側で23kPaに維持しながら、流路を窒素で416kPagに加圧することによって確認した。両方を分離すると、わずか1.9kPa/分の圧力損失および1.3kPa/分の減圧損失が示された。
DENO−D400によるモノリスコーティング
公称0.01μmの表面多孔性を有するCeraMem(登録商標)の0.13m2の試験モノリス(CeraMem(登録商標)Corporation,Newton,MA)を、実施例2から調製されたDENO−D400プレポリマー溶液で被覆した。モノリスを、ハウジングに取り付け、実施例3に記載されるように被覆した。モノリス流路にトルエン中25%のプレポリマー溶液を充填し、それを振動させ、次に、ポリマーの薄膜を残して排水した。窒素背圧を解放し、流路に空気を流して、あらゆる残留液体を流路から取り除き、部分的に溶媒を蒸発させた。モノリスを、ハウジングから取り出し、周囲空気中で一晩乾燥させた。被覆されたモノリスを、窒素パージされたオーブンに入れて、2℃/分で30℃から150℃まで、次に、150℃で3時間加熱することによって、ポリマーを予備硬化させた。モノリスにおけるポリマーの重量は3.60gであった。ハウジング中のモノリスの減圧試験は、膜が減圧を保持しなかったことを示した。モノリスを、上記のようなトルエン中のDENO−D400プレポリマーの12.5%溶液で2回、再度被覆した。150℃で3時間にわたって、乾燥させ、硬化させた後、被覆された膜は、周囲圧力の流路で、5分間にわたって19〜22kPaの、ハウジングのシェル側における分離の際のごくわずかな圧力損失を示した。最終的なポリマーの重量は、3.68gまたは33.5g/m2であり、これは、約33μmのポリマー厚さに相当していた。
E10モデル供給物によるポリマーで被覆されたモノリスの浸透気化試験
TAMTGE−D400膜モノリスの膜試験
実施例3からのTAMTGE−D400膜モノリスを、モデル供給物を用いて試験ユニット中で評価し、脂肪族炭化水素からの芳香族およびエタノール分離を評価した。重量基準で等量のn−ヘプタンおよびトルエンを無水(200 proof)エタノールと混合して、45%のn−ヘプタン、45%のトルエンおよび10%のエタノールの公称組成物を得ることによって、E10モデル供給物を調製した。この試験に使用される、ガスクロマトグラフィーによって測定された実際の組成物は、45.6重量%のn−ヘプタン、45.2重量%のトルエンおよび9.1重量%のエタノールを含有していた。
DENO−D400膜モノリスの膜試験
実施例4からのDENO−D400膜モノリスを、モデル供給物を用いて試験ユニット中で評価し、実施例5に記載されるのと同じ方法で、脂肪族炭化水素からの芳香族およびエタノール分離を評価した。
本発明者らは、制御された量の好適なモノエポキシドを、エポキシ樹脂配合物に加えると、樹脂の膨潤、それによって、得られる膜の流束および選択性が制御可能に変更されることを発見した。
調製物中のDENOの量に対するエポキシブタンの様々なモル分率を用いて、4種の樹脂を調製した。エポキシブタンを配合から除いた対照試料を調製した。これらの樹脂のそれぞれを、DSCによって分析して、それぞれのTg値を求めた。また、各樹脂を、ヘプタン、トルエン、エタノールおよびモデル供給物中の3日間の膨潤試験に供した。これらの特性評価試験の結果が、表8に示されている。
1.硬化した樹脂の1/16インチ〜1/8インチの厚さのフィルムの小片(約200〜300mg)を、化学天秤で小数点以下第4位まで秤量する。この値は、試料の乾燥重量(wd)である。
2.硬化した樹脂の片を10mlのバイアルに入れ、5mlの溶媒で完全に覆う。
3.バイアルを密閉し、3日間卓上で保存する。
4.3日目に、試料を溶媒から取り出す。
5.全ての表面から表面液体を除去する。
6.安定した値が得られるまで、試料を化学天秤で小数点以下第4位まで秤量する。この値(ws)が、フィルムと吸収された溶媒とを足した重量すなわち膨潤されたフィルムの重量である。
Claims (10)
- アルコールを含む炭化水素供給物流を分離するための高分子の膜であり、脂肪族置換エポキシドを有するポリエーテルエポキシ樹脂を含む膜。
- 前記脂肪族置換エポキシドが、任意のエポキシド基から3原子以内にヘテロ原子を含まない、請求項1に記載の膜。
- 前記脂肪族置換エポキシドが、完全脂肪族または完全芳香族あるいは芳香族と脂肪族との組み合わせである、請求項1に記載の膜。
- 前記エポキシドが、1,2,7,8−ジエポキシ−n−オクタン、シクロオクタジエンジエポキシド、ジビニルベンゼンジエポキシドからなる群から選択される、請求項3に記載の膜。
- 0.005〜0.5μmの表面細孔径を有する多孔質のセラミック基材上に支持される、エポキシドと、約230〜約4000の範囲のMnを有するポリ(プロピレングリコール)ビス(2−アミノプロピルエーテル)およびMnが約600のポリ(プロピレングリコール)−ブロック−ポリ(エチレングリコール)−ブロック−ポリ(プロピレングリコール)ビス(2−アミノプロピルエーテル)からなる群から選択されるポリエーテルアミンとを含む、請求項4に記載の膜。
- アルコールを含む炭化水素供給物流から芳香族化合物を分離するために脂肪族置換エポキシドを含むエポキシドを用いてポリエーテルエポキシ樹脂膜における流束および選択性を制御するための方法であり、前記エポキシ樹脂中のモノエポキシドの量を制御することを含む方法。
- アルコールを含むガソリン供給物から芳香族化合物を分離するための方法であり、浸透気化膜として請求項5に記載の膜を使用することを含む方法。
- 前記膜への供給物よりもオクタン価が少なくとも5RON高い透過生成物を生成する、請求項7に記載の方法。
- 前記アルコールが前記ガソリンの約10%以上で含まれる、請求項7に記載の方法。
- 前記アルコールがエタノールである、請求項8または9に記載の方法。
