Abstract

Description
さまざまな実施例に従うと、磁気要素は、選択的にデータを読み取るとともに、隣接するデータ記憶媒体からのクリアランスを測定するよう各々が適合される第1および第2のデータ変換要素を有するよう構成されてもよい。
データ記憶装置は、データ容量がより大きくなり、かつデータアクセス速度がより速くなるように進歩してきたが、磁気的および物理的な不安定性の影響を受けやすい。回転するデータ記憶構成要素により、磁気媒体と変換ヘッドとの間のクリアランスが低減され、環境条件による変動性を代償にして媒体上でデータビット密度が増加し得る。ヘッド−ディスク間のクリアランスのような環境条件の監視は、データセンサのリードバック信号を処理することによって行われ得る。しかしながら、しばしば発生するデータセンサの不安定性により、誤った測定値が生じ得る。これは、データアクセスエラーおよびヘッド−ディスク間の界面の破損につながる。したがって、当該産業において、ヘッド−ディスク間のクリアランスのような環境測定における信頼性を向上させることについての要求が継続している。
Claims (20)
- データを選択的に読み取るとともに、隣接するデータ記憶媒体からのクリアランスを測定するよう各々が適合される第1および第2のデータ変換要素を含む、装置。
- 各データ変換要素が磁気抵抗センサである、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記データ変換要素の少なくとも1つは、複数の磁気的自由層を含み、固定磁化基準を含まない、請求項1に記載の装置。
- バイアス磁石が、前記第1の変換要素に隣接し、空気軸受面の遠位に位置決めされる、請求項3に記載の装置。
- 前記第2のデータ変換要素は、前記第1のデータ変換要素よりも大きな空気軸受面の面積を有する、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記第2のデータ変換要素は、強磁性金属層を含むスピンバルブとして構成される、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記第2のデータ変換要素は、前記第1のデータ変換要素よりも大きな磁気的安定性を有するよう構成される、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 第2の変換要素に横方向に隣接して位置決めされる第1の変換要素を含み、各変換要素は、選択的にデータを読み取るとともに隣接するデータ記憶媒体からのクリアランスを測定するよう適合される、磁気要素。
- 前記第1および第2の変換要素は、共通の上部磁気シールドと底部磁気シールドとの間に位置決めされる、請求項8に記載の磁気要素。
- 第3の変換要素が、前記第2の変換要素と反対側に、前記第1の変換要素に横方向に隣接して位置決めされる、請求項8に記載の磁気要素。
- 前記第3の変換要素は、選択的にデータを読み取るとともに、前記データ記憶媒体からのクリアランスを測定することが可能である、請求項10に記載の磁気要素。
- 前記第3の変換要素は、前記データ記憶媒体からのクリアランスのみを測定する、請求項10に記載の磁気要素。
- 前記第1の変換要素は、前記第1の変換要素と前記データ記憶媒体との間の距離を変更することが可能であるクリアランス調整手段に接続される、請求項8に記載の磁気要素。
- 第1および第2のデータ変換要素をデータ記憶媒体に隣接して位置決めするステップと、
選択的にデータを読み取るとともに、隣接する前記データ記憶媒体からのクリアランスを測定するステップとを含む、方法。 - 前記第1のデータ変換要素は、前記第2のデータ変換要素が前記データ記憶媒体からのクリアランスを測定する間、データを読み取る、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記第1のデータ変換要素は、前記第2のデータ変換要素がデータを読み取る間、前記データ記憶媒体からのクリアランスを測定する、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記第1および第2のデータ変換要素は、冗長な検証のために、前記データ記憶媒体からのクリアランスを連続的に測定する、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記第2のデータ変換要素は、前記第2のデータ変換要素がデータを読み取る間に、前記データ記憶媒体からの測定されたクリアランスから前記データ記憶媒体との接触と、サーマルアスペリティとを検出することが可能である、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記第1および第2の変換要素は異なる第1および第2の固定周波数信号で同時に動作し、前記第1の固定周波数信号はデータ速度信号と一致し、前記第2の固定周波数信号は前記データ速度よりも低い、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記第1および第2の変換要素は前記データ記憶媒体の異なるデータトラックからデータを同時に読み取る、請求項14に記載の方法。
