本明細書に記載された発明は、NASA Contract No.NNX07AO16Aに基づく業務を遂行する際になされたものであり、1958年の国家航空宇宙法の第305項の規定に従う(42U.S.C.2457)。
発明の分野
本発明は、タイヤに関する。
アメリカ航空宇宙局(NASA)は、長距離月探査および月面基地の開発を支援するために新しい月面車を開発していた。このような車輌は、1960年代後半のアポロ計画向けに開発された月面移動車(LRV)よりも重く、走行距離が長い。このため、新しいタイヤは、地球上で使用されている乗用車と同様の動作特性が必要とされるので、アポロLRV上で使用されたタイヤと比べて10倍の重量までを支え、かつ100倍の走行距離までにわたって耐えることが求められる。しかし、従来のゴム製空気入りタイヤは月面では十分に機能しない。
本発明によるタイヤは複数のらせんばねを含む。各らせんばねは、第1の端部と、第2の端部と、第1の端部と第2の端部を相互に連結するアーチ形中央部とを含む。各らせんばねは、他の複数のらせんばねの少なくとも1つと組み合わされ、それによって、タイヤの全周に沿って延びる組み合わせトロイダル構造を形成する。
このタイヤは、組み合わされた複数のらせんばね(たとえば、荷重を受けて弾性的に変形し、エネルギーの損失がほとんどないコイル状ワイヤ)を含んでいる。このタイヤは、車輪に取り付けるためのトロイダル形構造を形成する。このタイヤは、対応する車輌への振動伝達を抑制しつつ牽引を容易にするためにかみ合う表面に合わせることができる。複数のらせんばねが、車輌の荷重を支えること及び/又は分散させることを行う。このタイヤは空気入りタイヤであっても空気無しタイヤであってもよい。
Claims (15)
- 複数のらせんばねを有するタイヤであって、各らせんばねが、第1の端部と、第2の端部と、アーチ形中央部とを有し、少なくとも1つの他のらせんばねと組み合わされ、それによって、前記タイヤの全周に沿って延びる組み合わせトロイダル構造を形成する、タイヤ。
- 複数のらせんばねのうちの一部が車輪の第1の環状リムと前記車輪の第2の環状リムに固定されている、請求項1に記載のタイヤ。
- 前記タイヤの軸線方向両側の各々で前記タイヤを前記車輪に固定する環状リムを有する車輪をさらに備えた、請求項1に記載のタイヤ。
- 前記トロイダル構造は前記タイヤの第1のプライを形成する、請求項1に記載のタイヤ。
- 半径方向において前記第1のプライと重なり合う第2のプライをさらに有する、請求項4に記載のタイヤ。
- 前記第2のプライは、複数のらせんばねを有する組み合わせトロイダル構造を有する、請求項5に記載のタイヤ。
- 前記第2のプライの各らせんばねは、第1の端部と、第2の端部と、アーチ形中央部とを有し、少なくとも1つの他のらせんばねと組み合わされ、それによって、前記タイヤの全周に沿って延びる組み合わせトロイダル構造を形成する、請求項6に記載のタイヤ。
