Description
本出願は、本明細書においてその全内容が引用により組み込まれている2006年12月29日出願の米国特許仮出願第60/877、650号から優先権を請求する。
選択領域内の毛細管の壁厚が減少すると、毛細管から流体に移送される熱エネルギの量が増加する。更に、所定領域内の毛細管の壁厚を低減することにより、毛細管の長さにわたる温度勾配を管理することができる。従って、エーロゾルを迅速に形成すると同時に、少ない液体しか存在しない管の領域で毛細管が所定温度限界を超えないことを保証するために、熱エネルギをエーロゾル形成に送出することができる。更に、所定領域の毛細管の壁厚を低減することにより、大気温度から作動温度まで毛細管の温度を上げるために必要とされる電気エネルギの量は、大幅に低減することができる。
湾曲毛細管構成は、毛細管を通る広範な流体の流速に対応するように設計され、エネルギ効率が高くかつコンパクトな構成を提供する。吸入器用途では、毛細管の加熱区間は、長さ5から40ミリメートル、又はより好ましくは、長さ10から25ミリメートルとすることができ、管内径は、0.01から0.5ミリメートル、より好ましくは、0.1から0.2ミリメートルとすることができる。毛管加熱器を吸入器に実施する場合、湾曲毛細管構成は、好ましくは、絶縁され、及び/又は大気及び毛細管から放出される蒸気から隔離される。例えば、絶縁材料の本体を使用して、毛細管に存在する蒸気が毛細管外面と接触しないように湾曲毛管をマウスピース内に支持することができると考えられる。
毛細管から排出される方向は、毛管部分の端部から離れる毛管全体平面内の方向に向くように図3に開示されている。代替的に、排出は、代わりに毛管部分の端部に向う毛管の全体平面内の方向、又は毛管によって形成された全体平面に直交する方向のような毛管によって形成された全体平面の外側方向とすることができる。

Claims (15)
- 毛細管の形態をしたエーロゾル発生器であって、
毛細管が、
少なくとも1つの湾曲部と、
流体入口と、
前記流体入口と前記湾曲部の間に配置された壁厚が減少した領域と、
前記湾曲部に沿った出口と、
を含み、
揮発した流体が、前記出口から排出されてエーロゾルを形成する、
ことを特徴とする発生器。 - 電気抵抗が、前記壁厚が減少した領域で増加することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエーロゾル発生器。
- 前記流体入口は、前記毛細管の端部に配置されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエーロゾル発生器。
- 前記毛細管は、少なくとも1つの湾曲部を含む該毛細管の第1の端部に配置された第1の流体入口と第2の端部に配置された第2の流体入口とを有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエーロゾル発生器。
- 前記毛細管は、1つよりも多い湾曲部を含み、
前記毛細管は、5から40ミリメートルの長さであり、0.1から0.5ミリメートルの内径を有する、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエーロゾル発生器。 - 前記流体入口と流体連通した液体の供給源を更に含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエーロゾル発生器。
- 前記毛細管は、10ミリメートルから25ミリメートルの長さであり、0.1ミリメートルから0.2ミリメートルの内径を有し、
前記毛細管は、約0.1ミリメートルの壁厚を有する、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエーロゾル発生器。 - 前記壁厚が減少した領域は、約0.01ミリメートルから0.09ミリメートルの壁厚を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエーロゾル発生器。
- 前記壁厚が減少した領域は、約0.04ミリメートルの壁厚を有し、
前記壁厚が減少した領域は、長さが約5.0ミリメートルから約7.0ミリメートルである、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエーロゾル発生器。 - 前記毛細管は、2つの壁厚が減少した領域を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエーロゾル発生器。
- 少なくとも1つの湾曲部と、流体入口と、該流体入口と該湾曲部の間に配置された壁厚が減少した領域と、該湾曲部に沿った出口とを含む毛細管、及び
前記毛細管を該毛細管の流体を揮発させるのに十分な温度まで加熱する加熱機構、
を含むことを特徴とするエーロゾル発生器。 - 前記毛細管は、電気抵抗性加熱材料で作られ、電気抵抗が、前記壁厚が減少した領域で増加し、前記加熱機構は、電流が前記湾曲部に沿って流れ、該毛細管の流体を揮発させるのに十分な温度まで該毛細管を加熱するように、電源と該毛細管に取り付けられたリード線とを含むことを特徴とする請求項11に記載のエーロゾル発生器
- 前記壁厚が減少した領域は、前記リード線と前記湾曲部の間に配置されることを特徴とする請求項12に記載のエーロゾル発生器。
- マウスピース及び/又は流体の供給源を更に含むことを特徴とする請求項11に記載のエーロゾル発生器。
- エーロゾルを発生させる方法であって、
少なくとも1つの湾曲部と、第1及び第2の流体入口と、該流体入口と該湾曲部の間に配置された壁厚が減少した領域と、該湾曲部に沿った出口とを含む毛管を含むエーロゾル発生器に流体を供給する段階と、
揮発した流体が前記毛管の前記出口から排出されてエーロゾルを形成するように、該毛管を加熱して、前記流体を揮発させて揮発流体を形成するのに十分な温度まで該流体を加熱する段階と、
を含むことを特徴とする方法。
