Abstract
【解決手段】位相差補償素子56は、Cプレート85とOプレート86とから構成される。このOプレート86は、無機物を斜方蒸着することによりつくられ、2軸性の複屈折体である。Oプレート86の進相軸L6は蒸着方向96をOプレート86の表面に正射影した方向と平行となる。液晶層69の液晶分子75がプレチルトする方向L8と進相軸L6とが平行になるように、かつ、蒸着方向96と方向L8とがz軸に対して反対側となるように、液晶表示素子51と偏光ビームスプリッタ48との間にOプレート86は配置される。Cプレート86は、Oプレート86とともに液晶表示素子51と偏光ビームスプリッタ48との間に配置される。

Claims (5)
- 液晶層に電圧が印加されていない状態のときに液晶分子が基板面に対して略垂直に配向するVAN液晶を用いる反射型液晶表示素子において、
無機材料を斜方蒸着することによってつくられ、素子表面に対して傾斜する光学軸を有し、前記無機材料の蒸着方向を素子表面へ正射影した方向と進相軸の方向とが一致し、前記液晶分子が前記基板面に対して傾斜していることによって生じる位相差を補償する2軸性複屈折体を備えることを特徴とする反射型液晶表示素子。 - 前記2軸性複屈折体とともに設けられ、表面に対して垂直な光学軸を有し、前記液晶層を斜めに透過する光の位相差を補償するとともに、前記2軸性複屈折体を透過することによる位相差を補償する1軸性複屈折体を備えることを特徴とする請求項1記載の反射型液晶表示素子。
- 前記1軸性複屈折体は、無機材料からなる高屈折率層と低屈折率層とを交互に積層した構造であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の反射型液晶表示素子。
- 前記2軸性複屈折体の前記進相軸の方向と、前記液晶分子の傾斜する方向とが一致するように前記2軸性複屈折体と組み合わされたことを特徴とする請求項1乃至3何れかに記載の反射型液晶表示素子。
- 請求項1乃至4何れかに記載の反射型液晶表示素子によって表示される像を拡大してスクリーンに投映することを特徴とする液晶プロジェクタ。
