Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an optical frequency stabilized light source that stabilizes an oscillation frequency of laser light, and an optical frequency stabilizing device.
In an optical wavelength division multiplexing communication system that transmits data of a plurality of different optical frequencies or wavelengths (hereinafter simply referred to as optical frequencies) using a single optical fiber, further increase in communication capacity is required. For this increase in capacity, it is necessary to use more frequency bands, so a light source capable of controlling and stabilizing the oscillation frequency with high accuracy is required.
However, in the above method, when the output light is frequency-modulated by controlling the injection current to the semiconductor laser light source, the amplitude (or intensity, hereinafter simply referred to as amplitude) of the output light fluctuates and amplitude modulation (AM modulation) The components are superimposed. Such an amplitude modulation component is also directly superimposed on the light that has been wavelength-converted and passed through the absorption cell, which causes an error when detecting the intensity of the transmitted light after passing through the absorption cell. Further, since the output light is frequency modulated, the optical frequency fluctuates instantaneously.
Further, the polarization direction of the output light varies due to the variation of the environmental temperature of the semiconductor laser light source. Here, the nonlinear optical element such as the SHG element or the optical phase modulator has optical anisotropy with a specific direction as an optical axis. Therefore, when the polarization direction of the laser light input to the nonlinear optical element varies, the loss and efficiency depending on the polarization direction change, and the amplitude modulation component due to the loss is superimposed on the modulated laser light. Such an amplitude modulation component also becomes an error factor when detecting the intensity of transmitted light after passing through the absorption cell.
In order to solve the above problems, in the first embodiment of the present invention, a laser light source that outputs laser light, a branch element that branches the laser light, and one of the laser lights branched by the branch element are received. Make smaller Ku optical frequency-stabilized light source and a stabilizer control unit for controlling the optical frequency of the output laser beam from the laser light source is provided.
The optical frequency stabilized light source is disposed between the laser light source and the optical element, and is disposed on the output side of the polarizer, the polarizer transmitting a specific polarization direction of the laser light, and the polarizer A phase modulation unit that modulates the phase of the laser beam when the transmitted laser beam is input, and a modulation signal supply unit that supplies a modulation signal to the phase modulation unit; The laser light source detects the difference between the peak of the absorption line spectrum and the frequency of the laser beam from the modulation signal supplied from the modulation signal supply unit to the phase modulation unit and the electrical signal output from the differential amplifier, and reduces the difference. The frequency of the laser beam output from may be controlled.
The optical frequency stabilized light source is disposed between the laser light source and the optical element, and is disposed on the output side of the polarizer, the polarizer transmitting a specific polarization direction of the laser light, and the polarizer When a transmitted laser beam is input, an SHG wavelength conversion unit that generates second harmonic light from the laser beam, and a frequency modulation signal supply unit that supplies a frequency modulation signal that modulates the frequency of the laser beam output from the laser light source The stabilization control unit detects a difference between the peak of the absorption line spectrum and the optical frequency of the second harmonic light from the frequency modulation signal of the frequency modulation signal supply unit and the electric signal output from the differential amplifier. In order to reduce the difference, the frequency of the laser light output from the laser light source may be controlled.
In the second embodiment of the present invention, a laser light source that outputs laser light and a substance that is disposed on the optical path of the laser light and has at least one saturated absorption line spectrum of light of a specific optical frequency are enclosed. The above summary of the invention does not enumerate all the necessary features of the present invention, and sub-combinations of these feature groups can also be the invention.
As is apparent from the above description, according to the present invention, even when the intensity and polarization direction of the light source light output from the laser light source fluctuate due to environmental factors such as temperature and the intensity fluctuation component is superimposed on the light source light, By receiving the fluctuation with the second light receiving element, the intensity fluctuation component common to both light receiving elements can be canceled from the intensity of the transmitted light of the gas cell received by the first light receiving element in the differential detector. In addition, when the polarization direction of the light source light varies due to environmental temperature variation, the polarization direction variation can be converted into an intensity variation component by the polarizer, so that the intensity variation component can be similarly cancelled. Therefore, the stabilization control unit can more accurately control the frequency of the light source light output from the laser light source without being affected by the intensity fluctuation component.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described through embodiments of the invention. However, the following embodiments do not limit the invention according to the scope of claims, and all combinations of features described in the embodiments are included. It is not necessarily essential for the solution of the invention.
FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing a configuration of an optical frequency stabilized
The
The optical
The
The
The
The first
The
The
The
In the above embodiment, since the optical
By providing the
FIG. 2 is a block diagram showing a configuration of an optical frequency stabilized
The optical
The
When the light source light is input, the SHG
The

The
In the above embodiment, the optical
By providing the
FIG. 3 is a block diagram showing a configuration of an optical frequency stabilized
The
When the light source light is input, the SHG
The
As in the
Here, if the second harmonic light outputted from the SHG
The first
The
The
In the above embodiment, the
