本出願は、2004年4月20日付の米国特許出願第10/828,096号の継続出願であって、この出願にもとづく優先権を主張し、上記出願の全教示が、参照により本明細書に援用される。
本発明は、NSFによって与えられた付与番号DMR‐0228787による政府の支援のもとでなされたものである。政府は、本発明について或る一定の権利を有する。
様々な種、例えば気体種の量(例えば、濃度あるいは時間に対する濃度変化の割合)の測定が望まれる多数の高温流体流プロセスが、存在している。特定の用途としては、典型的には気体のプロセスであるが化学反応プロセス、例えば石油または他の化学供給原料からの炭化水素類の、例えば熱分解またはクラッキングが挙げられる。他の用途としては、例えば炉、ボイラー、バーナー、などといった例えば外燃機関、例えば4ストロークエンジン、2ストロークエンジン、ディーゼルエンジン、などといった例えば内燃機関、ならびに例えばジェットエンジン、ガスタービン、などといったタービンエンジンなど、燃焼プロセスにおけるガス流が挙げられる。
本明細書において、高温の流体流中のガスの量を測定するための方法、センサ、およびシステムを開示する。
以下で、本発明の好ましい態様を説明する。
本発明を、以下の実施例によってさらに説明する。しかしながら、この実施例は、本発明の特定の側面を具体的に説明するかもしれないが、あくまで例証を主たる目的とするものであり、より広い側面における本発明がこの実施例に限定されるものと解釈してはならないことを、理解すべきである。
全教示が本明細書中に参照によって援用されるSasahara, K;Hyodo, T;Shimizu, Y;Egashira, M;J. European Ceramic Soc., 24, 1961‐1967,(2001)に記載の方法を適用することにより、炭酸バリウムの層を石英AWセンサの表面に堆積させた。簡単に述べると、炭酸バリウムの膜を、PMMAテンプレート技法を使用して堆積させた。約0.2gのPMMAミクロスフェア(直径800nmまたは400nm、Soken Chem. & Eng. Co., Ltd.)を、10mlの脱イオン水に分散させ、この懸濁液をピペットによって圧電センサ上へと滴下し、室温で乾燥させた。2M酢酸バリウム水溶液の前駆体溶液を、室温にて、減圧下で、PMMAミクロスフェアへと浸透させた。その後、得られた膜を400℃にて2時間の熱処理に供し、熱分解によるPMMAミクロスフェアを除去し、ミクロ多孔性炭酸バリウム枠組み(framework)を得た。走査型電子顕微鏡により、得られた炭酸バリウム層がほぼPMMAテンプレート(template)ミクロスフェアのサイズのミクロ細孔の規則的なミクロ構造を有する(図8A、400nm;図8B、800nm)こと、および層の厚さが約2μmであることが明らかになった。X線回折によって、該層が単相の炭酸バリウムであることを確認した。これらの層が、ガスセンサの用途に望ましいとされ得る十分に規定されたミクロ構造および高度なミクロ多孔性を呈することが、観察された。

Claims (70)
- a)第1のガス吸収層に連結した高温安定圧電プレートを含む音波(AW)センサを、第一の共鳴周波数で作動させること、
b)ガス成分を有する流体の流れを、最低でも約500℃の温度で、第1のガス吸収層と合わせること、および
c)AWセンサの少なくとも一つの共鳴周波数を検出すること
の工程を含み、ここで共鳴周波数は第1のガス吸収層の中の吸収されたガスの量と相関し得え、それにより流体の流れの中のガスの量を検出する、流体の流れの中のガス成分の量の検出方法。 - 流体の流れが最低でも約600℃の温度である、請求項1記載の方法。
- 高温安定圧電プレートがAlN、GaN、Al1-xGaxN(O≦x≦1)、GaPO4、AlPO4、およびCa2Ga2Ge4SiO14の結晶構造を有する物質からなる群より選択される一つ以上の物質で形成される、請求項1記載の方法。

- 第1のガス吸収層が、金属炭酸塩およびゼオライトからなる群より選択される一つ以上の物質を含む、請求項29記載のAWセンサ。

- コントローラが内燃機関と電子通信し、AWセンサによって排気流の中の検出されたガスの量に応じてリーンバーン様式、またはリッチバーン様式でエンジンを作動させる、請求項38記載のAWセンサ。
- 第1のガス吸収層が、リンデ型(Linde Type)A、ゼオライトβ、NaX、NaA、NaY、ZSM-5、H-ZSM-5、ソーダ沸石、菱沸石、ソーダライト、ホージャサイト、モルデナイト、MCM-41、MCM-48、およびMCM-50から選択されるゼオライトを含む、請求項39記載のAWセンサ。
- コントローラが第一のガス吸収層に連結され、第一のガス吸収層に吸収されたガスの量と相関しているガス吸収層の少なくとも1つの電気複素インピーダンス値を測定し、それにより流体の流れの中のガスの量が検出される、請求項40記載のAWセンサー。
- コントローラが、高温安定圧電プレートの周波数、および第一のガス吸収層の電気複素インピーダンスの双方から検出されたガスの量を比較する、請求項41記載のAWセンサー。
- ゼオライトが約0.5 nm〜約0.6 nmのナノ細孔サイズを有する、請求項42記載のAWセンサー。
- コントローラが内燃機関に連結した選択触媒還元(SCR)尿素注入システムと電子通信している、請求項43記載のAWセンサー。
- a)炭酸バリウム層に連結したLa3Ga5SiO14高温安定圧電プレートを有する音波(AW)センサーを共鳴周波数で作動させること
b)NOx成分を含む排気流を炭酸バリウム層と最低でも約500℃の温度で合わせ、それによりNOx成分の少なくとも一部分を炭酸バリウム層と反応させ、硝酸バリウムを形成すること
c)高温安定圧電プレートの少なくとも一つの共鳴周波数を検出すること、および
d)共鳴周波数と、反応して硝酸バリウムを形成したNOxの量とを相関させること
を含み、それにより排気流中のNOxの量を検出する、内燃機関からの排気流中のNOxの量を検出する方法。 - a) 内燃機関からのNOx成分を含む排気流を、音波(AW)NOxセンサに直列に連結されたNOxトラップへ導き、それによりNOx成分の少なくとも一部が炭酸バリウムと反応して硝酸バリウムを形成すること、ここで;
i)該トラップが第二の炭酸バリウム層を含む;および
ii)排気流の流れ方向に関してトラップの下流に位置するAWセンサが、第一の炭酸バリウム層に連結されたLa3Ga5SiO14高温安定圧電プレートを含む;
b) 高温安定圧電プレートの少なくとも1つの共鳴周波数を検出すること;
c) 共鳴周波数を第一の炭酸バリウム層に吸収されたNOxの量に相関付けること、それにより飽和NOxトラップ状態および非飽和NOxトラップ状態を検出すること;
d) 非飽和NOxトラップ状態を検出する際、リーンバーン様式でエンジンを作動させ、それによりリーンバーン状態から得られる少なくとも一部のNOxが第二の炭酸バリウム層と反応して硝酸バリウムを形成すること;ならびに
e) 飽和NOxトラップ状態を検出する際、リッチバーン様式でエンジンを作動させ、それにより硝酸バリウムの少なくとも一部の炭酸バリウム層を浄化してNOxを放出し、少なくとも一部の放出されたNOxをN2へ還元すること
を含む、内燃機関の排気流におけるNOxのN2への還元方法。 - a) 約0.5nm〜約0.6nm間のナノ細孔サイズを有するゼオライトガス吸収層に連結されたLa3Ga5SiO14高温安定圧電プレートを有する音波(AW)センサを、共鳴周波数で作動させること;
b) アンモニア成分を含む排気流を、少なくとも約500℃の温度でゼオライトガス吸収層と組み合わせ、それにより少なくとも一部のアンモニアがゼオライトガス吸収層に吸収されること;
c) 高温安定圧電プレートの少なくとも1つの共鳴周波数を検出し、該共鳴周波数をゼオライトガス吸収層に吸収されたアンモニアの量に相関付けること;
d) ゼオライトガス吸収層の電気複素インピーダンスを検出し、該電気複素インピーダンスをゼオライトガス吸収層に吸収されたアンモニアの量に相関付けること、ならびに
e) 周波数および電気複素インピーダンスにより、ゼオライトガス吸収層に吸収されたアンモニアの量を比較し、それにより排気流のアンモニアの量を検出すること
を含む、内燃機関からの排気流中のアンモニアの量を検出する方法。 - a) 排気流中のアンモニアの量と、排気流中の少なくとも一部のNOxをN2へと選択的に触媒によって還元し得るアンモニアの量とを比較すること;および
b) 排気流中で少なくとも一部のNOxをN2へと選択的に触媒によって還元し得るアンモニアの量に対応する量の尿素を注入すること
をさらに含む、請求項47記載の方法。 - a) 約1x107cm2:1cm3未満の表面積対体積の比を有する第一の炭酸バリウム層;
b) 第一の炭酸バリウム層に連結されたLa3Ga5SiO14高温安定圧電プレート;および
c) 高温安定圧電プレートの共鳴周波数を第1の炭酸バリウム層によって吸収されたNOxの量に相関付ける、La3Ga5SiO14高温安定圧電プレートに連結されたコントローラ
を含み、ここで内燃機関の排気流中のNOxの量が検出される、内燃機関の排気流中のNOx成分の量を検出するための音波(AW)センサ。 - a) 約1x107cm2:1cm3未満の表面積対体積の比を有する第一の炭酸バリウム層を含む音波(AW)NOxセンサ、および第一の炭酸バリウム層に連結されたLa3Ga5SiO14高温安定圧電プレート;
b) NOxトラップが第2の炭酸バリウム層を含み、AW NOxセンサが内燃機関からの排気流の流れの方向に関してNOxトラップの下流に位置する、AW NOxセンサと直列に連結されたNOxトラップ;および
c) i) La3Ga5SiO14高温安定圧電プレートに連結され、高温安定圧電プレートの共鳴周波数を検出し;かつ
ii) 内燃機関と電気通信して、エンジンをリーンバーン様式およびリッチバーン様式で作動するように指示するコントローラ
を含み、ここで内燃機関の排気流中の少なくとも一部のNOxがN2へと還元される、内燃機関の排気流中のNOxをN2へと還元するシステム。 - a) 約1x107cm2:1cm3未満の表面積対体積の比を有し、ゼオライトが約0.5nm〜約0.6nmのナノ細孔サイズを有するゼオライトガス吸収層;
b) ゼオライトガス吸収層に連結されたLa3Ga5SiO14高温安定圧電プレート;および
c) i) ゼオライトガス吸収層に吸収されたアンモニアの量に相関するLa3Ga5SiO14高温安定圧電プレートの少なくとも1つの共鳴周波数を測定するために連結され;かつ
ii) ゼオライトガス吸収層に吸収されたアンモニアの量に相関するゼオライトガス吸収層の少なくとも1つの電気複素インピーダンスを測定するために連結されたコントローラ
を含み、ここで内燃機関の排気流中のアンモニア成分の量が検出される、内燃機関の排気流中のアンモニア成分の量を検出するための音波(AW)センサ。 - 該コントローラが、内燃機関に連結された選択触媒還元(SCR)尿素注入システムと電子通信する、請求項51記載のAWセンサ。
- a) 金属炭酸塩を含む第一のガス吸収層に連結された圧電プレートを含む音波(AW)センサを、第一の共鳴周波数で作動させる工程;
b) ガス成分を有する流体の流れを第一のガス吸収層と組み合わせる工程;および
c) AWセンサの少なくとも1つの共鳴周波数を検出する工程
を含み、ここで共鳴周波数を第1のガス吸収層に吸収されたガスの量に相関付け得、それにより流体の流れ中のガスの量を検出する、流体の流れ中のガス成分の量を検出する方法。 - 圧電プレートが、AlN、GaN、Al1-xGaxN(0≦x≦1)、GaPO4、AlPO4、石英、LiNbO3、Li2B4O7、ZnO、チタン酸ジルコン酸鉛(PZT)、LiTaO3、およびCa2Ga2Ge4SiO14の結晶構造を有する物質からなる群より選択される1つ以上の物質で形成される、請求項53記載の方法。
- 第一のガス吸収層が約1x107cm2:1cm3未満の表面積対体積の比を有する、請求項54記載の方法。
- 第一のガス吸収層が少なくとも約2000:1のガス吸収/吸着比を有する、請求項54記載の方法。
- 第一のガス吸収層が直径約200nm〜約3000nmのミクロ細孔の規則正しい微細構造を有する、請求項54記載の方法。
- 流体の流れが外燃プロセスからの排気流、熱分解プロセスにおけるガス流、および内燃機関からの排気流からなる群より選択される、請求項55記載の方法。
- 流体の流れが内燃機関からの排気流である、請求項58記載の方法。
- 第一のガス吸収層が炭酸バリウムを含む、請求項59記載の方法。
- a) 金属炭酸塩を含む第一のガス吸収層;
b) 第一のガス吸収層に連結された圧電プレート;および
c) 第一のガス吸収層によって吸収されたガスの量と相関する圧電プレートの共鳴周波数(resonant frequency piezoelectric plate)を測定するために圧電プレートに連結されたコントローラ
を含み、ここで流体の流れ中のガスの量が検出される、流体の流れ中のガスの量を検出するための音波(AW)センサ。 - 圧電プレートが、AlN、GaN、Al1-xGaxN(0≦x≦1)、GaPO4、AlPO4、石英、LiNbO3、Li2B4O7、ZnO、チタン酸ジルコン酸鉛(PZT)、LiTaO3、およびCa2Ga2Ge4SiO14の結晶構造を有する物質からなる群より選択される1つ以上の物質で形成される、請求項61記載のAWセンサ。
- 第一のガス吸収層が約1x107cm2:1cm3未満の表面積対体積の比を有する、請求項62記載のAWセンサ。
- 第一のガス吸収層が少なくとも約2000:1のガス吸収/吸着比を有する、請求項62記載のAWセンサ。
- 第一のガス吸収層が直径約200nm〜約3000nmのミクロ細孔の規則正しい微細構造を有する、請求項62記載のAWセンサ。
- 外燃プロセスからの排気流、熱分解プロセスにおけるガス流、および内燃機関からの排気流からなる群より選択される流体の流れに連結される、請求項63記載のAWセンサ。
- 流体の流れが内燃機関からの排気流である、請求項66記載のAWセンサ。
- 第一のガス吸収層が炭酸バリウムを含む、請求項67記載のAWセンサ。
- a) 金属炭酸塩またはゼオライトを含む第一のガス吸収層に連結された圧電プレートを含む音波(AW)センサを、第一の共鳴周波数で作動させる工程;
b) ガス成分を有する流体の流れを第一のガス吸収層と組み合わせる工程;
c) AWセンサの少なくとも1つの共鳴周波数を検出する工程;および
d) ガス吸収層の少なくとも1つの電気複素インピーダンス値を検出する工程
を含み、ここで共鳴周波数を第1のガス吸収層に吸収されたガスの量に相関付け得、かつガス吸収層の電気複素インピーダンス値を第一のガス吸収層に吸収されたガスの量に相関付け得、それにより流体の流れ中のガスの量を検出する、流体の流れ中のガス成分の量を検出する方法。 - a) 金属炭酸塩またはゼオライトを含む第一のガス吸収層;
b) 第一のガス吸収層に連結された圧電プレート;
c) i) 第一のガス吸収層によって吸収されたガスの量と相関する圧電プレートの共鳴周波数を測定するために圧電プレートに連結され;かつ
ii) 第一のガス吸収層によって吸収されたガスの量と相関する電気複素インピーダンス値を測定するためにガス吸収層に連結されたコントローラ
を含み、ここで流体の流れ中のガスの量が検出される、流体の流れ中のガスの量を検出するための音波(AW)センサ。
