Description

The present invention relates to an image processing method for digital left and right breast images.

In the case of film mammography, the left and right breasts are photographed in the up-down direction (CC: CranioCaudal) and inward and outward oblique directions (MLO: Medial Lateral Oblique), respectively, to obtain four films. Doctors read or diagnose this film by placing it in a view box on a fluorescent screen.

Recently, computer radiography (CR) and digital mammography have also been used to obtain digital images of left and right breasts. Currently, doctors make four films for the left and right breasts, or read digital images using a high-resolution monitor for diagnosis.

Such an existing method has a disadvantage in that doctors have to make the left and right breast image heights one by one by hand to make it symmetrical.

Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a digital left and right breast image processing method capable of automatically adjusting the height of left and right breast images.

In order to achieve the above-described object of the present invention, the present invention provides a breast image processing method for left and right breast images obtained by digital mammography, which includes left and right breast images. Finding the tip position from each of the left breast image and the right breast image so that the tip position of the left breast image and the tip position of the right breast image are on the same line in the left-right direction based on the found tip position. Breast image placement steps for placing breast images.

The breast image placement step includes a step of extracting a breast boundary from each of the left breast image and the right breast image, a step of determining a tip position of the extracted breast boundary, and a left side corresponding to the determined tip position Aligning the left breast image and the right breast image so that the positions of the breast image and the right breast image are on the same line in the left-right direction.

The tip position is a nipple position.

The breast image placement step further includes a step of placing the left breast image and the right breast image so that their tips are far away from each other with respect to the symmetry axis of the left breast image and the right breast image.

After the breast image placement step, the method further includes combining the left breast image and the right breast image to generate a single breast image containing the left breast image and the right breast image.

According to the present invention, the position of the tip of the breast can be automatically made the same height, and the amount of work required for image placement, nipple positioning, etc. can be reduced until doctors interpret the image. Also, since the left and right breast images are combined into a single image, the amount of film used can be reduced by half. Furthermore, the breast tip position can be made the same height, and there is also an advantage that it is convenient at the time of reading because unnecessary portions are removed by using preprocessing or the like.

Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

FIG. 1 is a flowchart of a digital left and right breast image processing method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The flowchart of FIG. 1 will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. 2A to 9B.

First, the mammograms shown in FIGS. 2A and 2B are acquired by computer radiography or digital mammography (step S11). At this time, it is determined whether the acquired left and right breast images are left breast images or right breast images based on header information included in the images, and the left and right breast images are arranged on the left or right side of the screen. The breast image shown in FIG. 2A is an image obtained by vertical photographing, and the breast image shown in FIG. 2B is an image obtained by photographing inside and outside obliquely. FIG. 2A shows an example in which the left breast image is arranged on the left side and the right breast image is arranged on the right side. On the other hand, FIG. 2B shows an example in which the right breast image is arranged on the left side and the left breast image is arranged on the right side.

The left and right breast images shown in FIGS. 2A and 2B are preprocessed in order to remove unnecessary portions from the images (step S13). If step S13 is demonstrated about the image | video shown to FIG. 2B, the image | video on the right side of FIG. 2B will be rotated 180 degrees. Thereby, the video shown in FIG. 2B is arranged as shown in FIG. 4B. Thereafter, in FIG. 3, the region 33 indicated by the dotted line is not cut out from the right breast image 31 and the left breast image 32. At this time, in the right breast image 31, the left part on the paper surface, that is, when the observer sees, the right part is not cut off, and in the left breast image 32, the right part on the paper surface, that is, when the observer sees. , The left part is cut off. Thereafter, the left uppermost corner and the left lowermost corner portion 34 of the right breast image 31 are painted black, and the right uppermost edge and the right lowermost corner portion 35 of the left breast image 32 are painted black. Step S13 can be performed automatically. As a result, left and right breast images as shown in FIG. 4B are obtained. A similar pre-processing is performed on the image shown in FIG. 2A, and as a result, left and right breast images as shown in FIG. 4A are obtained. As can be seen from the left and right breast images preprocessed in this manner, the nipple corresponding to the tip of the breast is not located at the same height, as can be seen from FIGS. 4A and 4B.

The images shown in FIGS. 4A and 4B are processed so that the tip of the breast is positioned at the same height (step S15). FIG. 5A is a drawing for explaining the automatic nipple search algorithm used in step S15. The automatic nipple search algorithm includes the steps of masking the digital breast image, searching for a boundary point between the breast region and the background region, and determining a nipple position (more precisely, a tip position) at the determined boundary line. .

For(y=0;y<H;y++)
For(x=0;x<W;x++)
If(P(x,y)>Min)then
M(x,y)=1
Else
M(x,y)=0
End If
End For
End For
In the video masking step, for example, the same breast image ((a) in FIG. 5) as the breast image (right breast image) shown on the left side of FIG. 4B is subjected to image masking processing. When W is the width of the image in FIG. 5A, H is its height, and Min is the minimum pixel value, the algorithm used for image masking is as follows.
For (y = 0; y <H; y ++)
For (x = 0; x <W; x ++)
If (P (x, y)> Min) then
M (x, y) = 1
Else
M (x, y) = 0
End If
End For
End For

By such a video masking algorithm, a video as shown in FIG. 5B is obtained.

For(y=0;y<H;y++)
For(x=0;x<W;x++)
If(M(x,y)==1)then
E(y)=x
Break;
End If
End For
End For
Thereafter, in the boundary point search step, a boundary point between the black region 51 and the white region 53 is found in the masked video shown in FIG. An example of an algorithm used for this purpose is as follows when E (y) is the x value of the boundary point at the y point.
For (y = 0; y <H; y ++)
For (x = 0; x <W; x ++)
If (M (x, y) == 1) then
E (y) = x
Break;
End If
End For
End For

If this algorithm is used, each boundary point can be found while proceeding from the highest line to the lowest line constituting the video shown in FIG.

NP=0;
MinEY=65535;
For(y=0;y<H;y++)
If(MinEY>E(y))
MinEY=E(y)
NP=y
End If
End For
Thereafter, a nipple position determining step is performed. In the case of the video shown in FIG. 5C, the nipple position NP is the y position corresponding to the smallest x value among the boundary points, and an example of the algorithm used is as follows.
NP = 0;
MinEY = 65535;
For (y = 0; y <H; y ++)
If (MinEY> E (y))
MinEY = E (y)
NP = y
End If
End For

On the other hand, in the case of a breast placed so as to protrude to the right as in the left breast image shown in FIG. 4A, the position of the nipple is the y-order value corresponding to the largest x value on the boundary line of the breast. If the automatic nipple search algorithm is used, it is possible to search for the most protruding portion of the breast in the left direction. Therefore, even when the nipple is depressed, it is possible to search for the tip of the breast that can be seen as corresponding to the nipple.

When the automatic nipple search algorithm cannot find the position of the nipple, a screen like the example shown in FIG. 6 is provided to the user. The user viewing this screen specifies the nipple position using a double click of the mouse, etc., so that the nipple in the left breast image and the nipple in the right breast image are the same height based on the specified nipple position. The position can be adjusted automatically so that Differently, the nipple heights of both breast images can be matched by a method in which the user uses the mouse to drag the image to align the nipple position with the guideline. In this way, when step S15 is completed, as shown in FIGS. 7A and 7B, both breast images are positioned so that the nipples have the same height.

After step S15 is completed, each of the left and right breast images with the adjusted nipple height is an image of how the image is taken and whether it is a left breast image or a right breast image. A mark representing this is inserted (step S17). For example, in the video on the left side of FIG. 7A, a mark is displayed that contains both the English letter R representing the right breast image and the English letter CC representing the video taken in the vertical direction. In the image on the right side of FIG. 7B, a mark is displayed that includes both the English letter L representing the left breast image and the English character MLO representing the image photographed in the oblique direction.

On the other hand, in the image shown in FIG. 7A or 7B, the left breast image and the right breast image are simultaneously shown on the same screen, but they are separate images. Therefore, it is necessary to create an image in which the heights are adjusted to one image. For this purpose, processing for matching the left and right breast images to one image, for example, stitching processing is performed (step S19). If the stitching process is performed in step S19, the left breast image and the right breast image are made into one image. The image may be an image in which unnecessary white space, that is, a background image of the breast is excluded to some extent. FIG. 8 shows that the stitching process for the breast image is in progress when the user presses the corresponding button to perform the stitching process.

9A and 9B show the left and right breast images when the stitching process is completed. In particular, FIG. 9A shows one left and right breast image taken in the vertical direction, and FIG. 9B shows the inner and outer breast images. A single left and right breast image taken in the oblique direction is shown. Each of the images shown in FIGS. 9A and 9B can be stored or output to film as needed.

The digital left and right breast image of the present invention can be effectively applied in a technical field related to medical diagnosis, for example, by automatically arranging the left and right breast images symmetrically with the nipple height adjusted.
