Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a recovery mechanism that recovers an ink ejection state from a nozzle of a recording head to an initial state.
2. Description of the Related Art Inkjet image forming apparatuses that form images by ejecting ink onto recording media such as recording paper are widely used. This image forming apparatus includes a recording head (printing head) in which a plurality of nozzles for discharging ink and ink discharge ports (nozzle outlets) are formed. It is formed on the exit forming surface (face surface). There are two types of recording heads: a type that ejects ink while moving in the main scanning direction together with the carriage (scanning type), and a type that ejects ink while being fixed and stopped (line head type).
In the above-described image forming apparatus, thickened ink or dust accumulates on the face surface around the nozzles and ink discharge ports of the recording head during image formation (recording) or standby, and ink discharge failure or recording Problems such as disturbance may occur. As a technique for solving such a problem, a recovery operation for recovering an ink discharge state from an ink discharge port to an initial state is known. In order to perform this recovery operation, a recovery mechanism having a cap or the like covering the face surface is used.
As one of the recovery operations, there is a recovery operation for removing bubbles in the recording head. In this recovery operation, the nozzle of the recording head is sealed and the ink supply channel to the recording head is closed to sufficiently depressurize the inside of the recording head and the ink channel, and then the ink supply channel to the recording head is opened. As a result, the inside of the recording head and the flow path are filled with ink at once. Thereby, the bubbles in the recording head can be efficiently removed.
As described above, in the recovery operation in which the inside of the recording head is depressurized to remove bubbles, the inside of the recording head and the flow path cannot be sufficiently depressurized when the sealing performance of the nozzle is poor. Therefore, when the sealing performance of the nozzle is poor, the removal of bubbles may not be performed efficiently.
Further, in the recovery operation in which the inside of the recording head is pressurized and ink is pushed out from the nozzles, a cap having a volume that can sufficiently receive the pushed-out ink is required. If the volume of the cap is small, ink may overflow from the cap.
With a cap having a large volume, it is difficult to seal the nozzle, so the sealing performance of the nozzle is low. For this reason, there is a possibility that the recovery operation of removing the bubbles by depressurizing the inside of the recording head or the like cannot be performed efficiently. On the other hand, when the nozzle is sealed using a cap having a small volume in order to efficiently remove bubbles, the ejected ink may overflow from the cap during the recovery operation of pushing ink from the nozzle.
In view of the above circumstances, the present invention is effective in recovering even if the recovery operation is to pressurize the inside of the recording head and eject ink from the nozzle, or to recover the bubble by sealing the nozzle. The object is to provide a recovery mechanism that can perform well.

Furthermore,

According to the present invention, since the nozzle sealing member is provided separately from the cap that receives the ink ejected from the nozzle, the shape of the nozzle sealing member can be made suitable only for sealing the nozzle. For this reason, the cap can be made into a shape suitable only for receiving the ink ejected from the nozzle. Accordingly, the nozzle sealing member and the cap can be formed in an optimum shape according to the respective purposes, and the quality and reliability of the inkjet image forming apparatus can be improved.
The present invention has been realized in an ink jet printer.
A printer provided with a recovery mechanism of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.
FIG. 1 is a front view showing a schematic configuration of a printer which is an example of an ink jet type image forming apparatus provided with a recovery mechanism of the present invention, and shows an image forming state.
The
The
The
The

FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram illustrating the ink flow paths of the image forming unit and the ink supply unit of the printer. Here, the
The
The

One end portion of the

With reference to FIGS. 3 and 4, the standby state of the printer 10 (the standby state of the recording head) will be described.
FIG. 3 is a front view schematically showing the printer in a standby state. 4 is an enlarged front view showing the vicinity of the recording head of the printer shown in FIG.
When shifting from the image forming state (the state shown in FIG. 1) to the standby state, the
With reference to FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, an operation of filling the recording head with ink for the first time (initial ink filling) will be described.
FIG. 5 is a front view schematically showing a printer in which nozzles are sealed with a nozzle sealing member. 6 is an enlarged front view showing the vicinity of the recording head of the printer shown in FIG. Note that FIG. 2 is also referred to in the description of the initial ink filling.
The operation of sealing the nozzle 72an with the nozzle sealing member 76 (blocking the ink discharge port and the nozzle outlet) is performed at the initial ink filling and when the bubbles in the recording head are removed. Here, the ink initial filling will be described, and the removal of bubbles in the recording head will be described later.
At the time of initial ink filling, after the ink supply (full tank) to the
In this state, the
Thus, after the
In the initial filling of ink, immediately after the pressure inside the
When the liquid
After the
As described above, when the initial ink filling is performed, the
With reference to FIG. 7, the cleaning of the face surface 12as and the like will be described.
FIG. 7 is a front view showing a face surface cleaning operation.
When cleaning the face surface 12as and the like, the
With reference to FIGS. 2 and 8, the procedure for removing bubbles in the recording head will be described.

During image formation, bubbles may be mixed into the ink in the liquid chambers 12ar to 12fr and the nozzles 12an to 12fn in the recording heads 12a to 12f. If air bubbles are mixed in the ink, as described above, it may cause an image defect or a recording head failure. A procedure for removing the bubbles will be described. Although the
This flow is activated by pressing a “bubble removal button” on an operation panel (not shown) of the
When the pressurizing
As described above, the
As described above, the

FIG. 9 is a flowchart showing a procedure for collecting ink from the suction tank to the sub tank.
This flow is started by pressing an “ink recovery button” on an operation panel (not shown) of the

Another example of the nozzle sealing member will be described with reference to FIG.
FIG. 10 is a front view showing another example of the nozzle sealing member.
The nozzle sealing member 76 (see FIG. 6) is of a type that directly contacts and closes the outlet 12and of the nozzle 12an to seal the nozzle 12an. The
Still another example of the nozzle sealing member will be described with reference to FIG.
FIG. 11 is a front view showing still another example of the nozzle sealing member.

Still another example of the nozzle sealing member will be described with reference to FIGS.
FIG. 12 is a front view showing still another example of the nozzle sealing member. FIG. 13 is a front view showing a state where the nozzle is sealed with the nozzle sealing member of FIG.
The
