Description

More particularly, the present invention relates to a display panel for applying a protective resin liquid for protecting a lead electrode to a terminal portion on which a chip component for display driving is mounted. The protective resin liquid coating apparatus.

The display panel includes an organic EL panel in addition to the liquid crystal display panel. As shown in FIG. 5, the liquid crystal display panel 1 includes a display unit 2 having a liquid crystal layer (not shown) and a terminal unit 3. The terminal portion 3 is connected to a flexible substrate 4 for inputting a display signal from an external control device. In the case of a COG (chip on glass) type, a chip component (bare chip) 5 for driving liquid crystal is further mounted on the terminal portion 3.

A large number of lead electrodes 6 extending from the connection portion 3 f of the flexible substrate 4 to the display portion 2 are wired to the terminal portion 3. Usually, the lead electrode 5 is formed of ITO (indium tin oxide) like the display electrode in the display unit 2.

When the lead electrode 5 is exposed to air for a long time, it is contaminated and the rate of occurrence of electrolytic corrosion increases. Therefore, in order to protect the lead electrode 5, a protective resin liquid such as a silicone resin is applied to the terminal portion 3. The application method of the protective resin liquid is roughly classified into a dispenser method and a roller method. In the COG type, since the chip component 5 is mounted on the terminal portion 3, the dispenser method is generally adopted.

However, in the dispenser method, it is not easy to precisely control the coating amount, and the applied protective resin liquid spreads to the region of the connection portion 3f of the flexible substrate 4 and hinders the connection of the flexible substrate 4. There is.

However, such a situation can be avoided by applying the protective resin liquid after connecting the flexible substrate 4, but for the convenience of the production line, until the flexible substrate 4 is connected after the chip component 5 is mounted. During this time, a waiting time may be required, so that the lead electrode 6 is exposed to air for a long time, and the rate of occurrence of electrolytic corrosion increases as described above.

Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to ensure that the protective resin liquid of the lead electrode is not spread and spreads within the target application region on the terminal portion where the chip part of the COG type display panel is mounted. An object of the present invention is to provide a protective resin liquid coating apparatus for a display panel which can be coated.

In order to solve the above problems, the invention described in claim 1 is directed to a protective resin on the terminal portion on which the display drive chip component is mounted in order to protect the lead electrode formed on the terminal portion of the display panel. A resin liquid having a viscosity higher than that of the protective resin liquid to be applied is used.

According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in the first, second, or third aspect, the panel tilting means further tilts the display panel so that the third coating region side is positioned higher than the second coating region. It is characterized by having.

According to the first aspect of the present invention, the first to third coating means each having a roller are assigned to each of the first to third coating areas virtually divided on the terminal portion, and at least the chip component is provided. Since the existing roller in the first application region can move up and down, the protective resin liquid is applied in a thin film form in the target application region by each roller to the terminal portion on which the chip component is mounted. be able to.

Each of the application means includes a pumping roller for pumping out the protective resin liquid from the storage tank, and a transfer roller for coating the protective resin liquid supplied from the pumping roller through an intermediate roller to the coating region. According to the invention described in, the coating amount of the protective resin liquid can be controlled with higher accuracy.

4. According to the invention, wetting and spreading of the protective resin liquid applied to the third application region to the flexible substrate connecting portion can be more reliably prevented.

The protective resin liquid applied to the third application region according to claim 4, further comprising panel tilting means for inclining the display panel so that the third application region side is positioned higher than the second application region. It is possible to more reliably prevent wetting and spreading to the flexible substrate connecting portion.

Next, an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4, but the present invention is not limited to this. FIG. 1 shows the relationship between the coating means provided in the present invention and the terminal portion of a liquid crystal display panel as a display panel. Since the liquid crystal display panel is the COG type described in FIG. 5, the same reference numerals are used. The description here is omitted. For convenience of drawing, the lead electrode 6 is not shown in FIG.

As shown in FIG. 1, in applying the protective resin liquid to the terminal portion 2, in the present invention, the lead electrode forming surface side of the terminal portion 3 is virtually divided into the first to third three application regions 3 a to 3 c. The first to third coating means 10a to 10c that are partitioned and assigned to the respective coating areas 3a to 3c are provided.

The first application region 3a is a central region where the protective resin liquid including the chip component 5 is applied in a band shape having a predetermined width. The second application region 3b is a region where the protective resin liquid is applied in a band shape having a predetermined width between the first application region 3a and the end surface of the terminal portion 3 on the display unit 2 side. The third application region 3c is a region where the protective resin liquid is applied in a band shape having a predetermined width between the first application region 3a and the flexible substrate connecting portion 3f of the terminal portion 3.

The first to third coating means 10a to 10c are each provided with a roller that rolls on each coating area, and the configuration of the first coating means 10a used in the first coating area 3a is representative of these rollers. This will be described with reference to FIG.

The first application unit 10a includes a transfer roller 11, a drawing roller 12, and an intermediate roller 13 disposed therebetween. Each roller 11, 12, 13 is supported by the bearing plate 14 in a state of being in contact with each other. The bearing plate 14 is provided with a protective resin liquid storage tank 15 (not shown), and a part of the pumping roller 12 is immersed in the storage tank 15.

Although not shown, the bearing plate 14 is provided with a motor for driving the rollers 11, 12, 13, and the protective resin liquid in the storage tank 15 is pumped from the storage tank 15 as the pumping roller 12 rotates. It is fed out and supplied to the transfer roller 11 via the intermediate roller 13, and is applied to the first application region 3a as a thin film by the transfer roller 11.

By adjusting the clearance between the drawing roller 12 and the intermediate roller 13 and the clearance between the intermediate roller 13 and the transfer roller 11, the film thickness of the applied protective resin liquid can be controlled.

The transfer roller 11 of the first application unit 10a needs to get over the chip component 5 present in the first application region 3a. Therefore, the bearing plate 14 is supported to be movable up and down with respect to the support substrate 21 that moves horizontally along the horizontal guide rail 20.

The support substrate 21 includes a pair of left and right vertical guide rails 22 (see a cross-sectional view in FIG. 3) formed in an L shape that holds the both ends of the bearing plate 14 slidably and the bearing plate 14. A spring 23 that biases downward is provided. With this configuration, the transfer roller 11 rides on the chip part 5 from above the terminal part 3 against the spring pressure, and is pressed again onto the terminal part 3 by the spring pressure when it gets over the chip part 5.

The second coating unit 10b and the third coating unit 10c may have the same configuration as the first coating unit 10a, but the second coating region 3b and the third coating region 3c are flat and move the transfer roller 11 up and down. Therefore, the spring 23 may be omitted and the bearing plate 14 may be fixed to the support substrate 21.

According to the protective resin liquid coating apparatus of the present invention, the protective resin liquid is applied as a thin film that hardly causes spreading by rolling each transfer roller 11 of the coating means 10a to 10c to the terminal portion 3. be able to.

The transfer rollers 11 of the application units 10a to 10c may be moved simultaneously, but the transfer rollers 11 of the left and right second application units 10b and the third application unit 10c are preceded, and then the first first application unit 10 in the center. It is preferable to move the transfer roller 11. In addition, the application means 10a to 10c may be arranged at a fixed position, and the liquid crystal display panel 1 side may be moved.

Regarding the roller width, depending on the lateral width and mounting position of the chip component 5, if the width of each transfer roller 11 of the first application unit 10 a and the second application unit 10 b is, for example, about 2 to 3 mm, the second application is performed. The width of the transfer roller 11 of the means 10c is preferably about 1 to 2 mm so that the protective resin liquid does not enter the flexible substrate connecting portion 3f.

According to the present invention, the protective resin liquid is applied in the form of a thin film. Therefore, it is preferable to use a high-viscosity protective resin liquid applied to the third application region 3c adjacent to the flexible substrate connecting portion 3f (for example, 8000 to 10000 mPas).

Further, in order to prevent the protective resin liquid from getting wet and spread in the flexible substrate connecting portion 3f, as shown in FIG. 4, lift pins 31 for lifting the terminal portion 3 side are provided on the work table 30 on which the liquid crystal display panel 1 is placed. It is preferable that the protective resin liquid is provided so as to be able to appear and retract, and then the lift pin 31 is pushed up and tilted so that the third application region 3c side is positioned higher than the second application region 3b.

On the other hand, the protective resin liquid applied to the first application region 3a has a low viscosity so that the resin liquid quickly adheres to the side surface 5a of the chip component 5 shown in FIG. It is preferable. In addition, the protective resin liquid applied to the second application region 3b also uses a low-viscosity liquid so that the resin liquid quickly wraps around the gap formed by the peripheral sealing material present on the end surface on the display unit 4 side. It is preferable to do this (as an example, 300 to 500 mPas).

Moreover, it is preferable that the transfer roller 11 of the 1st application means 10a which gets over the chip | tip component 5 is a hard roller which does not show elasticity. That is, when the rubber roller is used, when the rubber roller is transferred from the terminal portion 3 onto the chip component 5, the rubber roller is compressed and deformed, and the resin film thickness becomes unstable.

As described above, according to the present invention, since the protective resin liquid can be applied without entering the flexible substrate connecting portion 3f with the chip component 5 mounted on the terminal portion 3, the lead electrode 6 is exposed. The time required for this is short, and the rate of galvanic corrosion of the lead electrode 6 can be greatly reduced.

In addition, when a clearance gap arises between application | coating area | regions, what is necessary is just to apply | coat a protective resin liquid with a dispenser, and this invention does not exclude use of a dispenser completely. The display panel to which the protective resin liquid is applied according to the present invention includes a display panel having a terminal portion such as an organic EL panel in addition to the liquid crystal display panel.
