Abstract
【解決手段】ディスプレイパネルと、バックライトユニットと、サイドライトユニットとを含む視角調節可能な液晶ディスプレイ。バックライトユニットはサイドライトユニットの下に配置されており、サイドライトユニットはディスプレイパネルの下に配置されている。サイドライトユニットは第1サイドライト光源とライトガイドプレートとを含む。第1サイドライト光源は、ライトガイドプレートの一端に配置されている。ディスプレイ方法は、狭視角モード信号に応答してディスプレイパネルに直接光を提供することと、広視角モード信号に応答してディスプレイパネルに散乱光を提供することとを含む。

Description
テクノロジーの発達により、消費者が、携帯電話やノートパソコンのような液晶ディスプレイを備えた携帯装置を公衆のいる場所で使用する機会が増えてきた。携帯装置を公衆のいる場所で使用する場合、秘密を保つために、携帯装置が視角調節可能なディスプレイを有していることが消費者にとってしばしば必要となる。下記特許文献1に開示されているように、視角が傾いている場合に偏向した光学特性を補正することにより、液晶ディスプレイの視角特性を改善することが可能であった。現在、3種類の液晶ディスプレイ視角調節方法がよく知られている。
本発明の他の目的、特徴および利点は、下記の好ましいが非限定的な実施形態の詳細な説明から明らかになるであろう。下記の説明は添付図面を参照しておこなう。
第1実施形態
図4Aを参照すると、本発明の第1実施形態による液晶ディスプレイの概略横断面図が示されている。
第2実施形態
図5Aを参照すると、本発明の第2実施形態による液晶ディスプレイの概略横断面図が示されている。
Claims (13)
- ディスプレイパネルと、
ライトガイドプレート、および前記ライトガイドプレートの一端に配置された第1サイドライト光源を含み、前記ディスプレイパネルの下に配置されたサイドライトユニットと、
前記サイドライトユニットの下に配置されたバックライトユニットとを含む視角調節可能な液晶ディスプレイ。 - 前記バックライトユニットが、バックライトモジュールと、前記バックライトモジュールと前記サイドライトユニットとの間に配置されたライトバルブとを含む、請求項1に記載の液晶ディスプレイ。
- 前記ライトバルブが光吸収材から形成されている、請求項2に記載の液晶ディスプレイ。
- 前記ライトバルブがシャッター構造を有する、請求項2または3に記載の液晶ディスプレイ。
- 前記サイドライトユニットが、前記ライトガイドプレートの前記一端とは反対側の他端に配置された第2サイドライト光源をさらに含む、請求項1ないし4のいずれかに記載の液晶ディスプレイ。
- 前記ライトガイドプレートが指向性ライトガイドプレートを含む、請求項5に記載の液晶ディスプレイ。
- ディスプレイパネルと、バックライトユニットと、サイドライトユニットとを有する液晶ディスプレイの視角を調節する方法であって、
狭視角モード信号に応答して、前記ディスプレイパネルに直接光を提供することと、
広視角モード信号に応答して、前記ディスプレイパネルに散乱光を提供することとを含む方法。 - 前記直接光の方向は、前記ディスプレイパネルに対して実質的に垂直でない、請求項7に記載の方法。
- 前記狭視角モード信号に応答して、実質的な平行光を前記ディスプレイパネルに提供することをさらに含む、請求項8に記載の方法。
- 前記狭視角モード信号に応答して、実質的な平行光を前記ディスプレイパネルに提供することをさらに含む、請求項7に記載の方法。
- 前記散乱光を提供することは、実質的な平行光とサイドライトとを提供することを含む、請求項7ないし10のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記狭視角モード信号に応答して、前記バックライトユニットに流す電流を増すことにより、前記ディスプレイパネルの輝度を調節することをさらに含む、請求項7ないし11のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記狭視角モード信号に応答して、前記サイドライトユニットに流す電流を増すことにより、前記ディスプレイパネルの輝度を調節することをさらに含む、請求項7ないし12のいずれかに記載の方法。
