【解決手段】 ラップアラウンドシールド6,7を分割して形成し、主磁極2側のシールド6の素子高さ方向の高さGdを、補助磁極に接続されるシールド7の素子高さ方向の高さより小さくする。

Claims (10)
- 主磁極と、
補助磁極と、
浮上面側において、前記主磁極のトラック幅方向両側とトレーリング方向に前記主磁極の側面を覆うように形成されたラップアラウンドシールドとを有し、
前記ラップアラウンドシールドの素子高さ方向の高さは、前記主磁極のトレーリングエッジ側の端部における高さが、トレーリングエッジより遠い側の端部における高さよりも小さいことを特徴とする磁気ヘッド。 - 請求項1記載の磁気ヘッドにおいて、前記ラップアラウンドシールドは、主磁極の厚み方向に積層された第1のシールドと第2のシールドからなり、前記第1のシールドの主磁極高さ方向の高さは、前記第2のシールドの主磁極高さ方向の高さよりも小さいことを特徴とする請求項1記載の磁気ヘッド。
- 請求項2記載の磁気ヘッドにおいて、前記第1のシールドの素子高さ方向の高さは50nm〜200nmの範囲にあることを特徴とする磁気ヘッド。
- 請求項2記載の磁気ヘッドにおいて、前記第2のシールドの素子高さ方向の高さは300nm〜500nmの範囲にあることを特徴とする磁気ヘッド。
- 請求項1記載の磁気ヘッドにおいて、前記補助磁極と前記ラップアラウンドシールドは同じ磁性材料によって形成されていることを特徴とする磁気ヘッド。
- 請求項2記載の磁気ヘッドにおいて、前記補助磁極、前記第1のシールド及び第2のシールドがそれぞれ異なる磁性材料によって形成されていることを特徴とする磁気ヘッド。
- 請求項2記載の磁気ヘッドにおいて、前記補助磁極は前記主磁極のトレーリング側に配置された第1の補助磁極と前記主磁極のリーディング側に配置された第2の補助磁極からなり、前記第2のシールドは前記第1の補助磁極に接続していることを特徴とする磁気ヘッド。
- 請求項7記載の磁気ヘッドにおいて、前記主磁極と前記第1の補助磁極の間に形成されたコイルと、前記主磁極と前記第2の補助磁極の間に形成されたコイルを有することを特徴とする磁気ヘッド。
- 磁気記録層と軟磁性裏打ち層とを備える磁気記録媒体と、
前記磁気記録媒体を駆動する媒体駆動部と、
前記磁気記録媒体に対して記録再生を行う磁気ヘッドであって、主磁極と、補助磁極と、浮上面側において、前記主磁極のトラック幅方向両側とトレーリング方向に前記主磁極の側面を覆うように形成されたラップアラウンドシールドとを有し、前記ラップアラウンドシールドの素子高さ方向の高さは、前記主磁極のトレーリングエッジ側の端部における高さが、トレーリングエッジより遠い側の端部における高さよりも小さい磁気ヘッドと、
前記磁気ヘッドを前記磁気記録媒体に対して駆動する磁気ヘッド駆動部とを含むことを特徴とする磁気記録再生装置。 - 主磁極と、補助磁極と、浮上面側において前記主磁極のトラック幅方向両側とトレーリング方向に前記主磁極の側面を覆うように形成されたラップアラウンドシールドとを有する磁気ヘッドの製造方法において
主磁極を形成する工程と、
主磁極の周りに磁気ギャップを形成する工程と、
フレームめっき法にて第1のシールドを形成する工程と、
アルミナ膜を形成し、ケミカルメカニカルポリッシンングにて平坦化する工程と、
平坦化された前記第1のシールド上に、前記第1のシールドより素子高さ方向の高さが高い第2のシールドを形成する工程と、
コイル及びコイル絶縁層を形成し、ケミカルメカニカルポリッシンングにて平坦化する工程と、
平坦化された前記第2のシールドに接続して補助磁極を形成する工程と
を有することを特徴とする磁気ヘッドの製造方法。
