液晶ポリマーを含有する塗工液を、基材上に塗布して塗膜を形成した後、当該塗膜に偏光UVを照射することを特徴とする液晶材料を配向させるための配向膜の製造方法。
−(CH2CH2O)a−(CH2)b−(O)c−、を示し、X2は−CNまたは−Fを示す。但し、一般式(3)中のaは0〜3の整数、bは0〜12の整数、cは0または1であり、かつa=1〜3のときはb=0、c=0であり、a=0のときはb=1〜12、c=0〜1である。)で表される化合物があげられる。
(数平均分子量及び重量平均分子量の測定)
ポリマーをTHFに0.1%で溶解させて、GPC(ゲルパーミエーションクロマトグラフィー)を用いてポリスチレン換算により数平均分子量及び重量平均分子量を測定した。詳しい測定条件は以下の通りである。

高圧水銀ランプを光源にしてクランテーラープリズムにて偏光とし25℃の条件下でコンベア式UV照射装置で偏光UVを照射した。紫外線光量測定機(EIT社製,UV Power Puck)で測定したところ、コンベアを1回通過したとき、UVC(250−260nm)、UVB(280−320nm)、UVA(320−390nm)およびUVV(395−445nm)の合計照射光量は、1.0J/cm2であった。
異方性は以下の方法で評価できる。分光光度計(日立製作所製,U−3410)を用い、出射出口にグランテーラープリズムを取り付けて作製した偏光を用いて、波長250−600nmの吸光度を測定した。測定は、サンプルに偏光UVを照射した際の偏光方向と分光光度計の偏光方向が平行な状態および直交する状態になるようにサンプルをセットして行なった。基板の吸収は除外した状態で平行および直交のそれぞれの吸光度を測定し、吸光度が最大になる波長において以下の式で異方性を算出した。
異方性(%)={(直交時の吸光度−平行時の吸光度)/(平行時の吸光度)}×100。
液晶ポリマー(1)1部を、シクロペンタノン99部に溶解した濃度1%溶液を調製した。当該溶液を、スピンコーターにより、石英ガラス板上に塗布し、100℃で1分間乾燥し、厚み0.1μmの塗膜を得た。その後、この塗膜をコンベアを20回通過させて偏光UVを20J/cm2照射した。得られた膜について、異方性を評価した。結果を表1に示す。
液晶ポリマー(2)2部を、シクロペンタノン98部に溶解した濃度2%溶液を調製した。当該溶液を、スピンコーターにより、石英ガラス板上に塗布し、100℃で1分間乾燥し、厚み0.2μmの塗膜を得た。その後、この塗膜をコンベアを20回通過させて偏光UVを20J/cm2照射した。得られた膜について、異方性を評価した。結果を表1に示す。
実施例1において、液晶ポリマー(1)の代わりに、ポリビニルシンアンメート(Aldrich製)を用いたこと以外は実施例1と同様の操作を行なった。得られた膜について、異方性を評価した。結果を表1に示す。
実施例1において、偏光UVを照射する代わりに、無偏光UVを照射したこと以外は実施例1と同様の操作を行なった。得られた膜について、異方性を評価した。結果を表1に示す。
実施例1において、液晶ポリマー(1)の代わりに、ポリメチルメタクリレートを用いたこと以外は実施例1と同様の操作を行なった。得られた膜について、異方性を評価した。結果を表1に示す。
得られた膜の上に、液晶モノマー(PaliocolorLC242:BASF社製)の酢酸エチル溶液(固形分10%)をスピンコーターで塗布した後、すぐに乾燥し、液晶モノマーの厚みが1μmの液晶層を形成した。これを100℃で2分間加熱配向させて液晶膜を得た。得られた液晶膜をクロスニコル偏光子の間挟み、目視観察し、配向性を下記基準で評価した。○:透明。△:わずかに白濁。×:白濁している。
Claims (8)
- 液晶ポリマーにより形成されており、異方性を有することを特徴とする液晶材料を配向させるための配向膜。
- 液晶ポリマーに偏光UVを照射することにより異方性が生じたものであることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶材料を配向させるための配向膜。
- 液晶ポリマーが、ネマチック液晶ポリマーであることを特徴とする請求項1または2記載の液晶材料を配向させるための配向膜。
- ネマチック液晶ポリマーが、ネマチック液晶モノマーをモノマー単位として含有するアクリル系液晶ポリマーであることを特徴とする請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載の液晶材料を配向させるための配向膜。
- 請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の液晶材料を配向させるための配向膜を製造する方法であって、
液晶ポリマーを含有する塗工液を、基材上に塗布して塗膜を形成した後、当該塗膜に偏光UVを照射することを特徴とする液晶材料を配向させるための配向膜の製造方法。 - 請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の配向膜に液晶材料を塗布し、液晶材料を配向させて得られる配向液晶膜。
- 請求項6記載の配向液晶膜を少なくとも1枚用いた光学フィルム。
- 請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の配向膜、請求項6記載の配向液晶膜、または請求項7記載の光学フィルムを用いた画像表示装置。
