αグルコシダーゼは、消化管での二糖類の分解を触媒する酵素であり、その働きを阻害すると、糖質の分解が抑制または遅延され、糖質の吸収を抑制することができる。したがって、αグルコシダーゼ阻害剤は食後の過血糖を顕著に抑制することから、糖尿病の予防あるいは改善に有効である。
