Claims (10)
- 画素の領域に電極が設けられた第1の基板を有する画像表示パネルと、前記画像表示パネルと対向する出射面、及び、少なくとも一つが光の入射面である複数の端面を有する光導波路を含み、光を前記光導波路の前記端面に結合させることが可能である照明システムと、
を含む表示装置であって、
前記光導波路は、2層の光透過層の間に、前記光透過層の材料よりも高い屈折率を持つ光透過材料をそなえ、
前記光透過材料と、前記光透過層のうち前記画像表示パネルから離れている方の第1の光透過層との間の境界面は構造化されている、
表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の表示装置において、
前記光透過材料と前記光透過層の材料は、共に実質的に光異方性である表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の表示装置において、
前記第1の光透過層は、前記境界面で構造化されている表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の表示装置において、
前記境界面は、鋸歯状の構造又はプリズム構造を有する表示装置。 - 請求項1又は2記載の表示装置において、
前記光透過材料は液体であり、
前記光透過層の材料は、ガラス、水晶又は合成材料である、
表示装置。 - 出射面及び複数の端面を有し、前記端面のうちの少なくとも一つは対向した位置にある光の入射面である、光透過材料の光導波路を含み、光を前記光導波路の前記端面に結合することが可能である照明システムであって、
前記光導波路は、2層の光透過層の間に、前記光透過層の材料よりも高い屈折率をもつ光透過材料をそなえ、
前記光透過材料と、前記光透過層のうち前記画像表示パネルから離れている方の第1の光透過層との間の境界面は構造化されている、
照明システム。 - 請求項6に記載の照明システムにおいて、
前記光透過材料と前記光透過層の材料は共に実質的に光異方性である照明システム。 - 請求項6に記載の照明システムにおいて、
