Abstract
Description
本出願は2001年5月9日出願の米国仮出願第60/289737号「ガスクラスタイオンビーム技術を応用した人工股関節の作用を改善する方法とシステム」の優先権を主張する。
発明の分野
本発明は人工関節等の医療具に関し、特にガスクラスタイオンビーム技術を利用した人工関節の磨耗を減少させる方法とシステムに関する。
関節交換すなわち関節形成術は外科処置であり、関節の疾患部分を取り除いて新しい人工部分と交換する。現在、これら人工関節は高架橋ポリエチレン、金属-金属およびセラミック-セラミック材料のごとき改良材料で製造されている。関節交換後は骨軟化が大きな問題であり、インプラント(埋込材)自体の破片による炎症が関与すると考えられている。例えば全股関節交換の場合、幾分かの骨軟化症状は術後10年以内に40%程度で発生する。
それら目的並びに他の目的は以下で解説する本発明によって達成される。
Claims (20)
- ガスクラスタイオンビーム処理によって人工関節の部材表面を改良する装置であって、
真空チャンバと、
該真空チャンバと作動式に連動し、ガスクラスタイオンビームを発生させるガスクラスタイオンビーム源と、
通路に沿ってガスクラスタイオンビームを加速させる加速器と、
該ガスクラスタイオンビーム通路内で対象物を保持してポジション調整させる対象物ホルダと、
加速されたガスクラスタイオンビームで対象物表面を非均質に照射して該対象物表面に所定の紋様をエッチングする手段と、
を含んで構成されることを特徴とする装置。 - 所定の紋様は潤滑剤保持用の多数の凹形状部で成ることを特徴とする請求項1記載の装置。
- 潤滑剤は体液であることを特徴とする請求項2記載の装置。
- 紋様エッチング手段は加速されたガスクラスタイオンビームを照射する前に対象物表面上または直前に置かれるマスクを含んでおり、該マスクは開口部、多様な厚み、またはそれらの組み合わせを有しており、ガスクラスタイオンビームによる表面処理に影響を及ぼす紋様を形成していることを特徴とする請求項1記載の装置。
- ガスクラスタイオンビーム処理で人工関節部材の表面を改良する方法であって、
真空チャンバ内でガスクラスタイオンビームを形成するステップと、
ガスクラスタイオンビームを加速するステップと、
前記真空チャンバ内のガスクラスタイオンビームの通路内に対象物を配置するステップと、
ガスクラスタイオンビームで該対象物表面を非均質に照射して該表面に紋様を形成するステップと、
を含んで成る方法。 - 紋様は潤滑剤を保持する多数の凹形状部で成ることを特徴とする請求項5記載の方法。
- 潤滑剤は体液であることを特徴とする請求項6記載の方法。
- 照射ステップでマスクを対象物表面上または直前に置いて照射紋様を制御するステップをさらに含んでおり、該マスクは開口部、多様な厚み、またはそれらの組み合わせを有しており、ガスクラスタイオンビームによる表面処理に影響を及ぼす紋様を形成していることを特徴とする請求項5記載の装置。
- マスクは金属ホイルまたはフィルムであることを特徴とする請求項8記載の方法。
- ガスクラスタイオンビームを所定の小径部に焦点させるステップをさらに含んでおり、非均質照射ステップは該小径部に対して対象物表面を制御下でポジションさせることで提供されることを特徴とする請求項5記載の方法。
- 少なくとも2つの相対移動する表面を有した人工関節を埋め込む方法であって、
少なくとも一方の移動面に、潤滑剤を保持させるために多数の凹形状部にて所定の紋様を形成するステップと、
前記人工関節を組み立てるステップと、
該人工関節を埋め込むステップと、
を含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 所定の紋様内に潤滑剤を導入するステップをさらに含んでいることを特徴とする請求項11記載の方法。
- 潤滑剤は体液であることを特徴とする請求項12記載の方法。
- 紋様形成ステップは、
不活性ガスクラスタイオンビームを真空チャンバ内で形成するステップと、
該ガスクラスタイオンビームを加速するステップと、
前記真空チャンバ内の該ガスクラスタイオンビームの通路内に対象物を配置するステップと、
該対象物表面を加速されたガスクラスタイオンビームで非均質に照射し、該表面に所定の紋様をエッチングするステップと、
を含んでいることを特徴とする請求項11記載の方法。 - 凹形状部は10μm以内の深度の溝または窪みであることを特徴とする請求項11記載の方法。
- 潤滑剤保持用の少なくとも1つの表面に形成された溝と窪みの紋様を有した人工関節であって、該溝と窪みの大多数は10μm以内の深度であることを特徴とする人工関節。
- 紋様はガスクラスタイオンビームによる表面の非均質照射によって形成されることを特徴とする請求項16記載の人工関節。
- 潤滑剤は体液であることを特徴とする請求項16記載の人工関節。
- 大腿骨であることを特徴とする請求項16記載の人工関節。
- 少なくとも2つの相互移動面を有した人口関節であって、少なくとも一方はガスクラスタイオンビームで表面を非均質に照射することで形成された多数の凹形状部で成る紋様を有しており、それら相互移動面は組み合わされ、潤滑剤が該紋様内に導入されて該相互移動面間に潤滑性を提供することを特徴とする人工関節。
