一方被検者が子供のように体格が小さい場合は、被検者の胸部にX線受像手段8のほぼ中心が一致するようスライダ2を下降させてX線受像手段8の高さ調整を行う。
このとき支持アーム4に支持されたX線受像手段8とX線照射手段5が同時に下降するので、X線受像手段8の中心とX線照射手段5の中心がずれることがなく、これによって従来のX線受像手段8とX線照射手段5の連動を切り離して個別の調整を繰り返し行うものに比べて短時間でX線受像手段8とX線照射手段5の高さ調整が行える。

これによって子供の体格に合わせたX線受像手段8及びX線照射手段5の高さ調整と絞り手段7によるX線照射野の調整が、面倒な操作を必要とせずに短時間で容易に行えると共に、必要以上にX線照射野が広がることがないので、被検者のX線被曝量も低減することができる。
以上のようにしてX線受像手段8の高さ調整と絞り手段7によるX線照射野の調整が完了したら、X線照射手段5よりX線受像手段8へ向けてX線を照射し、X線受像手段8の前に立たせた被検者の胸部のX線撮影を行うもので、被検者が体格の小さい子供の場合であっても、短時間でX線撮影が行えるようになる。
