近年、環境意識の高まりとともに、防波堤や護岸などの港湾・漁港・海岸構造物において、構造物本来の機能だけではなく藻場造成が可能な空間が意図的に提供され、ここでアラメ、カジメ、ホンダワラなどの有用海藻類が造成されている。このような海藻用育成場として、図8に示すように、直立混成堤16の前面に人工リーフ17を設置したものと、傾斜基盤を有する構造物18に小段19を設けたものと、遊水室20を備えた直立スリットケーソン21とがある。またこの他にも例えば、特許第2971007号公報の発明がある。
しかし、上記のような人工リーフや傾斜堤などは、多くの捨て石や根固・波消ブロックを必要とするためコストがかかる。一方、直立スリットケーソンの遊水室内部は、透過壁や堤体に囲まれているため、底面まで光が届きにくく必要な光量が不足するという問題があった。 However, such artificial reefs and sloping dams as described above are costly because they require many discarded stones, root anchors and wave-dissipating blocks.
