As a gas processing apparatus for decomposing and detoxifying a gas to be treated, particularly a gas (exhaust gas) containing a volatile organic compound (VOC) discharged from various treatment steps, the exhaust gas is generated by plasma generated at atmospheric pressure. Some plasma processing apparatuses have been proposed to decompose by subjecting them to plasma processing. In these plasma processing apparatuses, a silent discharge, a pulse discharge, a creeping discharge, a ferroelectric pellet filling discharge, or the like is employed as a discharge method for generating plasma at atmospheric pressure. In each of these discharge methods, a predetermined space at or near atmospheric pressure is applied with a voltage to an electrode located in the vicinity of the space to bring the predetermined space into a plasma state. By introducing a gas containing the volatile organic compound into the space in the plasma state, the organic compound in the gas is subjected to plasma treatment and decomposed. As a specific example of a plasma processing apparatus employing a ferroelectric pellet filling discharge method, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2002-292273 discloses that a high-potential-side electrode and a low-potential-side electrode are provided in a reactor equipped with temperature control means. Arranged between the high potential side electrode and the low potential side electrode, an inorganic dielectric having a structure through which gas can flow is filled, and the high potential side electrode and the low potential side electrode are filled. An apparatus is disclosed in which a plasma is generated by generating a discharge between the electrodes to generate a plasma, and the gas to be processed flowing in the inorganic dielectric filled between the high-potential-side electrode and the low-potential-side electrode is subjected to plasma processing. In addition, a catalyst tank such as an ozone decomposition catalyst is provided on the downstream side of the apparatus for generating plasma under the atmospheric pressure and processing the gas to be processed by plasma, thereby improving the exhaust gas processing efficiency by using both the discharge processing and the catalytic processing. Suggestions have been made to improve.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As described above, when a discharge is generated under normal pressure (atmospheric pressure) to generate plasma to detoxify a gas to be treated, particularly an exhaust gas containing volatile harmful substances, under a low concentration condition. There is a problem that the operation efficiency is very poor because the decomposition efficiency per input energy is low. On the other hand, when the processing flow rate of the gas to be treated is increased in order to improve the operation efficiency, it is necessary to increase the size of the apparatus, and in that case, there is a problem that the apparatus cost and the operating cost increase. In order to improve the decomposition efficiency, a method of mixing a ferroelectric substance and a porous adsorbent or a catalyst and performing concentration decomposition or catalytic decomposition in the same tank is considered. As in the case described above, it is necessary to increase the scale of the apparatus, and there is a problem that the apparatus cost and the operating cost increase.
[0004]
Further, when a plasma is generated by generating a discharge under normal pressure (atmospheric pressure) to perform a plasma treatment on a gas to be treated, particularly an exhaust gas containing volatile harmful substances, control of by-products generated by the discharge is performed. Is an important issue. The generation of by-products varies depending on the component species, concentration, discharge conditions, and the like of the gas to be treated. However, by limiting related conditions, the generation of by-products can be suppressed. However, in such a case, problems such as a decrease in processing efficiency and an increase in operation cost are caused. Therefore, a discharge device and a discharge method capable of efficiently suppressing generation of by-products are required. A typical example of such a by-product is NOx. Since NOx is a causative substance such as acid rain and photochemical smog, it has been an issue to reduce its generation. As a method of removing NOx generated by electric discharge, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-51653 discloses a method of removing NOx generated in a later stage of plasma treatment by contacting the same with a reducing agent solution. In addition, there has been proposed a method of providing a scrubber for bringing NOx into contact with water or an alkaline solution at a later stage of the plasma treatment, and a method of adsorbing and removing the same using an adsorbent. However, these methods have problems such as the necessity of increasing the volume of an apparatus to be used and the complicated processing process. In addition, there is a problem that wastewater treatment is required.
[0005]
A proposal to improve the efficiency of exhaust gas treatment by using a combination of electric discharge treatment and catalytic treatment to provide a catalyst tank such as an ozone decomposition catalyst on the downstream side of the above-described apparatus that generates plasma at atmospheric pressure and performs plasma treatment on the gas to be treated. In order to obtain an ozone concentration that makes the most of the effect of the ozone decomposition catalyst, it is necessary to set the discharge conditions of the discharge processing unit to high power, so that there is a problem that the operating cost inevitably increases. is there.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention solves the above-mentioned problems in the prior art, and reduces the generation of by-products such as NOx from a gas to be treated such as a gas (exhaust gas) containing a volatile harmful substance such as a volatile organic compound (VOC). An object of the present invention is to provide a plasma processing apparatus and a plasma processing method that can efficiently decompose and detoxify. More specifically, according to the present invention, the discharge processing unit that decomposes the gas to be treated by the plasma generated by generating the discharge actively generates ozone when the discharge occurs, thereby generating by-products such as NOx. Having a structure that promotes the efficient decomposition of the gas to be treated by reducing it, and having a catalyst treatment section that mainly decomposes ozone contained in the gas discharged from the discharge treatment section at a stage subsequent to the discharge treatment section, Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a plasma processing apparatus and a plasma processing method capable of achieving an improvement in the decomposition efficiency of a gas to be processed and a remarkable reduction in the generation of by-products such as NOx.

A plasma processing apparatus for generating a plasma by generating a discharge in a space, and performing a plasma process on the gas to be processed introduced into the plasma processing space via the gas introduction unit to render the gas harmless. And an inorganic dielectric (b) having a lower dielectric constant than the inorganic dielectric (a) between the inorganic dielectric (a) and at least one of the ground side electrode or the high voltage side electrode. Is disposed, and a catalyst tank for catalytically treating a gas discharged from the plasma processing space is provided at a subsequent stage of the plasma reactor.
The inorganic dielectrics (a) and (b) are preferably ferroelectrics. The inorganic dielectric (a) and / or (b) may be a granular inorganic dielectric. Further, the inorganic dielectric (a) may be a granular inorganic dielectric, and the inorganic dielectric (b) may be a granular or plate-like inorganic dielectric. The inorganic dielectric (b) preferably has a relative dielectric constant of 100 or less. The catalyst tank is preferably filled with a catalyst having an ozone decomposition function. Further, the catalyst having the ozone decomposing function filled in the catalyst tank may be a granular or honeycomb-shaped catalyst. The discharge generated in the plasma processing space is preferably a glow discharge.
According to the plasma processing apparatus of the present invention having the above configuration, a gas to be processed such as a gas (exhaust gas) containing a volatile harmful substance such as a volatile organic compound (VOC) is remarkably reduced to the generation of by-products such as NOx. It can be decomposed and detoxified very efficiently.
[0008]

By applying a voltage, a discharge is generated in the plasma processing space under normal pressure to generate plasma, the gas to be processed is plasma-processed, and the plasma-processed gas discharged from the plasma processing space is discharged to the gas discharge unit. Through which the catalyst is treated by flowing into the catalyst tank.

Flow through each plasma processing unit while making contact with the first dielectric 4 and the second dielectric 5 without directly contacting the first electrode 4 and the second dielectric 5 with a ground electrode 3 and a high voltage electrode 2 from a power source (not shown).
