Abstract
Description
【0001】
【0038】
δep1Y=v*[{(taf2−taf1)−(taf3−taf2)+(tbf2−tbf1)−(tbf3−tbf2)}/4+{(tar2−tar1)−(tar3−tar2)+(tbr2−tbr1)−(tbr3−tbr2)}/4]/2 〔式1〕
δep1M=v*[{(taf4−taf3)−(taf5−taf4)+(tbf4−tbf3)−(tbf5−tbf4)}/4+{(tar4−tar3)−(tar5−tar4)+(tbr4−tbr3)−(tbr5−tbr4)}/4]/2 〔式2〕
δep1C=v*[{(taf6−taf5)−(taf7−taf6)+(tbf6−tbf5)−(tbf7−tbf6)}/4+{(tar6−tar5)−(tar7−tar6)+(tbr6−tbr5)−(tbr7−tbr6)}/4]/2 〔式3〕
【0039】
δepY=(δep1Y+δep2Y+δep3Y)/3 〔式4〕
δepM=(δep1M+δep2M+δep3M)/3 〔式5〕
δepC=(δep1C+δep2C+δep3C)/3 〔式6〕
【0040】
δesf1Y=v*{(taf2−taf1)−(taf3−taf2)−(tbf2−tbf1)+(tbf3−tbf2)}/4 〔式7〕
δesf1M=v*{(taf4−taf3)−(taf5−taf4)−(tbf4−tbf3)+(tbf5−tbf4)}/4 〔式8〕
δesf1C=v*{(taf6−taf5)−(taf7−taf6)−(tbf6−tbf5)+(tbf7−tbf6)}/4 〔式9〕
δesr1Y=v*{(tar2−tar1)−(tar3−tar2)−(tbr2−tbr1)+(tbr3−tbr2)}/4 〔式10〕
δesr1M=v*{(tar4−tar3)−(tar5−tar4)−(tbr4−tbr3)+(tbr5−tbr4)}/4 〔式11〕
δesr1C=v*{(tar6−tar5)−(tar7−tar6)−(tbr6−tbr5)+(tbr7−tbr6)}/4 〔式12〕
【0041】
δesY=(δesf1Y+δesf2Y+δesf3Y+δesr1Y+δesr2Y+δesr3Y)/6 〔式13〕
δesM=(δesf1M+δesf2M+δesf3M+δesr1M+δesr2M+δesr3M)/6 〔式14〕
δesC=(δesf1C+δesf2C+δesf3C+δesr1C+δesr2C+δesr3C)/6 〔式15〕
【0042】
δepY=(δesr1Y−δesf1Y+δesr2Y−δesf2Y+δesr3Y−δesf3Y)/3 〔式16〕
δepM=(δesr1M−δesf1M+δesr2M−δesf2M+δesr3M−δesf3M)/3 〔式17〕
δepC=(δesr1C−δesf1C+δesr2C−δesf2C+δesr3C−δesf3C)/3 〔式18〕

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a color printer, a color copier, and the like, and more particularly, to an electrophotographic image forming apparatus having a plurality of image forming units.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, an electrophotographic color image forming apparatus has a plurality of image forming units for speeding up, a method of sequentially transferring images of different colors on an intermediate transfer belt and collectively transferring them on print paper, Various methods have been proposed for sequentially transferring images of different colors onto print paper held on a conveyor belt.
[0003]
In these color image forming apparatuses, for example, density correction control is performed in order to accurately adjust the density of each color and obtain an image of a desired color. Specifically, the density correction control includes Dmax control for optimizing the maximum density of each color and Dhalf control for changing the lookup table so that the input image data and the halftone image density have good linearity. Is what is done.
[0004]
In addition, the above-described correction control (calibration control) such as the color misregistration correction control, the density correction control, and the chromaticity correction control is performed by periodically interrupting printing during continuous printing. This is because, if continuous printing is continued, various factors such as color misregistration, density, and chromaticity rise in the apparatus will cause deterioration, and it will be impossible to obtain a highly accurate image.
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the conventional image forming apparatus that performs the above-described correction control has the following problems.
[0006]
During continuous printing, the frequency at which the calibration is required differs for each correction control. For example, density and chromaticity need to be executed at a constant frequency during continuous printing. On the other hand, the color misregistration worsens when the temperature rise inside the machine is severe, so the frequency of the color misregistration correction control is high.However, when the temperature rise inside the machine is saturated, a large color misregistration does not occur. Reducing downtime. Therefore, the timings at which the above calibrations are performed do not always coincide. For this reason, depending on the conditions for executing the correction control, one of the above-described calibrations may be executed every time several pages are printed, and the downtime may be increased.
[0007]
SUMMARY An advantage of some aspects of the invention is to provide an image forming apparatus that reduces downtime due to calibration during continuous printing while maintaining high-precision image quality. It is an object.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
An image forming apparatus according to the present invention achieves the above object by the following configuration.

[0010]
(2) In the above (1), a plurality of transfer means for transferring an image to an endless belt sequentially passing through a plurality of image forming means is provided.
[0011]
(3) In the above (1), a plurality of transfer means for transferring an image onto a recording material conveyed while being held on an endless belt sequentially passing through a plurality of image forming means is provided.
[0012]
(4) In the above (3), the plurality of correction control means include a pattern forming means for forming a color shift detection pattern on the endless belt, and a color shift detection for detecting the formed color shift detection pattern. Means and a color shift correction control means for correcting the color shift of each color from the detection result of the color shift detection pattern.
[0013]
(5) In the above (3), the plurality of correction control means include: a pattern forming means for forming a density detection pattern on the endless belt; a density detection means for detecting the formed density detection pattern; A density correction control means for correcting the density of each color from the detection result of the density detection pattern is included.
[0014]
(6) In the above (3), the plurality of correction control means include a pattern forming means for forming a chromaticity detecting pattern on the endless upper belt, and a chromaticity detecting means for detecting the formed chromaticity detecting pattern. Means and chromaticity correction control means for correcting and optimizing the chromaticity of each color from the detection result of the chromaticity detection pattern.
[0015]
(7) In any one of the above (1) to (6), the timing of executing the correction by the correction control means is different from a predetermined condition only when there is another correction control within arbitrary pages before and after. The correction control of a plurality of correction control means is executed simultaneously.
[0016]
(8) In any one of the above (1) to (7), the timing different from the predetermined condition is the execution timing of the correction control by another correction control means.
[0017]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.
[0018]
(First embodiment)
FIG. 1 is a perspective view schematically showing the overall configuration of an image forming apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention. Here, four colors, namely, black (Black) K, cyan (Cyan) C, magenta (Magenta) M, 1 shows a schematic configuration of an electrophotographic color image forming apparatus including each of yellow (Y) image forming units.
[0019]
In the figure, reference numeral 1a denotes a color shift correction control means for correcting a color shift of each color, 1b a density correction control means for correcting the density of each color, and 1c a chromaticity correction control means for correcting and optimizing the chromaticity of each color. The plurality of correction control means 1a, 1b, and 1c are provided for improving the image quality of the formed image, and each of the correction control means 1a, 1b, and 1c is provided at a timing different from the execution timing under predetermined conditions for executing each correction. The correction of the correction control means 1a, 1b, 1c is executed.

[0029]
First, at the time of the above-described Dmax control, an image is formed while switching the developing bias with the same image data (the pattern for maximum density detection). Then, the reflection density is detected by the

[0031]
Also, due to causes (differences) such as mechanical accuracy for each color in a plurality of image forming units, uneven movement of the plurality of photosensitive drums and the conveying belt, and the outer peripheral surface of the photosensitive drum and the conveying belt at the transfer position of each image forming unit. And the like, the relationship of the amount of movement of each color varies, and does not match when the images are superimposed, resulting in color misregistration (position misregistration). In particular, in an apparatus having a plurality of image forming units having a laser scanner and a photosensitive drum, there is an error in the distance between the laser scanner and the photosensitive drum in each image forming unit, and if this error is different between each image forming unit, A difference occurs in the scanning width of the laser on the photosensitive drum, and color shift occurs.
[0032]
FIG. 2 shows an example of the above color shift. In the figure, 201 indicates the original image position, and 202a to 202d indicate the image positions when a color shift has occurred. Also, (a), (b), (c), and (d) show cases in which there is color misregistration in the scanning direction. For simplicity of description, two lines are drawn here in the transport direction. is there.
[0033]
FIG. 2A shows the inclination deviation of the scanning line. This occurs, for example, when there is an inclination between the optical unit and the photosensitive drum. For example, the position is corrected in the direction of the arrow by adjusting the positions of the optical unit and the photosensitive drum and the position of the lens. (B) shows the color shift due to the variation of the scanning line width. This is caused by a difference in the distance between the optical unit and the photosensitive drum, particularly when the optical unit is a laser scanner. For example, the image frequency is finely adjusted (if the scanning width is long, the frequency is increased). By changing the length of the scanning line, the correction is made in the direction of the arrow. (C) shows the writing position error in the scanning direction. For example, if the optical unit is a laser scanner, the writing position is corrected in the direction of the arrow by adjusting the writing timing from the beam detection position. (D) shows the writing position error in the paper transport direction. For example, by adjusting the writing timing of each color from the detection of the leading edge of the paper, the correction is made in the direction of the arrow.
[0034]
To correct these color shifts, a color shift detection pattern is formed for each color on the

δep1M = v * [{(taf4-taf3)-(taf5-tf4) + (tbf4-tbf3)-(tbf5-tbf4)} / 4 + {(tar4-tar3)-(tar5-tar4) + (tbr4-tbr3) − (Tbr5−tbr4)} / 4] / 2 [Equation 2]

Similarly, when the color shift amount δep2 of each color in the transport direction in the
[0039]

δepM = (δep1M + δep2M + δep3M) / 3 [Equation 5]
δepC = (δep1C + δep2C + δep3C) / 3 [Equation 6]
Next, a method of calculating the amount of color shift in the scanning direction will be described. The color shift amounts δesf1 and δesr1 of the left and right colors in the scanning direction in the
[0040]
δesf1Y = v * {(taf2-taf1)-(taf3-taf2)-(tbf2-tbf1) + (tbf3-tbf2)} / 4 [Equation 7]
δesf1M = v * {(taf4-taf3)-(taf5-taf4)-(tbf4-tbf3) + (tbf5-tbf4)} / 4 [Equation 8]
δesf1C = v * {(taf6-taf5)-(taf7-taf6)-(tbf6-tbf5) + (tbf7-tbf6)} / 4 [Equation 9]
δesr1Y = v * {(tar2-tar1)-(tar3-tar2)-(tbr2-tbr1) + (tbr3-tbr2)} / 4 [Equation 10]
δesr1M = v * {(tar4-tar3)-(tar5-tar4)-(tbr4-tbr3) + (tbr5-tbr4)} / 4 [Equation 11]
δesr1C = v * {(tar6-tar5)-(tar7-tar6)-(tbr6-tbr5) + (tbr7-tbr6)} / 4 [Equation 12]
Similarly, when the color shift amount δes2 of each color in the scanning direction in the
[0041]
δesY = (δesf1Y + δesf2Y + δesf3Y + δesr1Y + δesr2Y + δesr3Y) / 6 [Equation 13]
δesM = (δesf1M + δesf2M + δesf3M + δesr1M + δesr2M + δesr3M) / 6 [Equation 14]
δesC = (δesf1C + δesf2C + δesf3C + δesr1C + δesr2C + δesr3C) / 6 [Equation 15]
The color shift amount δep of each color with respect to the scanning width is expressed by the following equation.
[0042]
δepY = (δesr1Y−δesf1Y + δesr2Y−δesf2Y + δesr3Y−δesf3Y) / 3 [Equation 16]
δepM = (δesr1M−δesf1M + δesr2M−δesf2M + δesr3M−δesf3M) / 3 [Equation 17]
δepC = (δesr1C−δesf1C + δesr2C−δesf2C + δesr3C−δesf3C) / 3 [Equation 18]
When there is an error in the main scanning width, the main scanning writing position is calculated in consideration of not only δemf but also the amount of change in the image clock frequency changed according to the main scanning width correction.
[0043]
Further, the above-described density correction control is to form and detect patches on an intermediate transfer body or a drum, and to control a change in color balance of an image due to transfer and fixing to the
[0044]
FIG. 5 shows an example of a density-gradation characteristic control patch pattern formed on the
[0045]
By comparing the colors of both patches after fixing, the mixture ratio of C, M, and Y at which the process gray patch becomes achromatic is detected by the optical sensor, and the detected result is used as the exposure amount of the image forming unit, process conditions, and the like. [0046]
Next, the operation of this embodiment based on the above configuration will be described.
[0047]
FIGS. 6 and 7 are timing charts showing the operation timings of the present embodiment. The timing at which the color image forming apparatus executes calibration such as color misregistration correction control, density correction control, and chromaticity correction control during continuous printing operation. Is shown.
[0048]
In the figure, S is a threshold value (the number of pages), N1 to N6 are the number of pages of the calibration interval (however, S> N1, S <= N2, S <= N3, S> N4, S> N5, S> N6). ) And L are the required number of pages (where L> S).
[0049]
As the number of printed pages increases, the execution conditions for each calibration are satisfied. When the condition is satisfied, the printing operation is temporarily interrupted to execute the calibration. Here, for simplicity of explanation, an example of the execution timing during the continuous printing operation when there are four types of calibrations (
[0050]
As described above, the conditions for executing the calibration are different from each other. In the example of FIG. 6, in order to obtain the required number L of pages with high-precision image quality, the printing operation is temporarily suspended for a total of 10 times to perform the calibration. It must be made. For this reason, the downtime significantly increases.
[0051]
Therefore, as shown in FIG. 7, the plurality of calibrations are simultaneously executed at a timing different from the execution timing under a predetermined condition for executing the plurality of calibrations. FIG. 7 shows a case where the same type of calibration as in FIG. 6 is performed with the required number of pages.
[0052]
FIG. 8 is a flowchart illustrating the control method according to the present embodiment. The control process shown in this flowchart is executed by a CPU (not shown) of the image forming apparatus of FIG. 1 according to a program stored in advance.
[0053]
First, a threshold value S is set in advance. Then, it is assumed that the execution condition of the

[0055]
As described above, each time any of the calibration conditions is satisfied, the comparison with the threshold value is sequentially performed. As a result, as shown in FIG. 7, it is possible to reduce the number of temporary interruptions of the printing operation for obtaining the required number L of printed pages with high precision image quality, and reduce downtime due to calibration.
[0056]
(Second embodiment)
Next, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described. Here, only differences from the first embodiment will be described.
[0057]
In the first embodiment, the threshold value S for determining whether to perform the calibration at the same time is fixed, but in the present embodiment, the threshold value S is changed according to the required number of print pages. ing.
[0058]
Table 1 shows the relationship between the number L of printed pages and the threshold value S required in this embodiment. However, the threshold value is S1 ≠ S2 ≠ S3 ≠ S4 ≠ S5.
[0059]
[Table 1]
[0060]
When the required number of print pages is 500 or less, the threshold is S1. When the number of print pages is 501 or more and 1000 or less, the threshold is S2. When the number of print pages is 1001 or more and 1500 or less, the threshold is S3. In this case, the threshold is set such that the threshold is S4, and when the number of pages is 2001 or more, the threshold is set as S5 (S1>S2>S3>S4> S5).
[0061]
9 and 10 are timing charts showing operation timings of the present embodiment, and show timings at which the color image forming apparatus executes calibration when the number L2 of printed pages is 0 <L2 <500 pages during continuous printing. ing.
[0062]
In the figure, S1 is a threshold value (the number of pages), N21 to N28 are the number of pages of the calibration interval (however, S1> N21, S1> N22, S1 <= N23, S1> N25, S1> N26, S1> N27, S1> N28), and L2 is the required number of pages (however, 0 <S1 <L2 <500).
[0063]
According to Table 1, the required number of print pages is 0 to 500, so the threshold is set to S1. As in the first embodiment, FIG. 9 shows the execution timings during the continuous printing operation when there are four types of calibrations (
[0064]
In the example of FIG. 9, even if the required number of print pages L2 is small, the print operation is temporarily suspended for a total of 10 times in order to make the required number of pages L2 an image of high-precision image quality. Must be done. For this reason, the downtime greatly increases, and there is a sufficient possibility that a user who needs a small number of printed pages will be dissatisfied with the waiting time.
[0065]
Therefore, as shown in FIG. 10, the plurality of calibrations are simultaneously executed at a timing different from the execution timing under a predetermined condition for executing the plurality of calibrations. FIG. 10 shows a case where the same type of calibration as in FIG. 9 is performed with the required number of pages.
[0066]
In the control method according to the present embodiment, the threshold value in the flowchart shown in FIG. 8 is set to S1. It is assumed that the execution condition of the
[0067]

[0068]
As described above, when the required number of print pages is small, by setting a large threshold value, the downtime due to calibration can be significantly reduced, so that there is no possibility that the user will be dissatisfied with the waiting time, and high accuracy is achieved. A high quality image can be obtained.
[0069]
(Third embodiment)
Next, a third embodiment of the present invention will be described. Here, only differences from the first and second embodiments will be described.
[0070]
In the second embodiment, the threshold value is changed in accordance with the number of print pages that need to be changed. However, in the present embodiment, a “high-speed print mode” that further reduces downtime due to calibration, and a more accurate image quality The "high image quality mode" for printing the image is prepared, and the threshold value is determined by allowing the user to select which mode to print.
[0071]
This is ideal for each user, even if the waiting time is long, some users need high-precision image quality, while others need to reduce the waiting time before printing rather than image quality. This is because it is necessary to provide a proper image and waiting time.
[0072]
Table 2 shows a relationship between the print mode and the threshold value S according to the present embodiment. However, the threshold value is S7≪S≪S6.
[0073]
[Table 2]
[0074]
In the “high-speed printing mode”, a value S6 larger than the threshold value S in the first embodiment is set (S6 >> S) in order to further reduce downtime due to calibration. In the “high image quality mode”, a value S7 smaller than the threshold value S in the first embodiment is set, and calibration is executed at a more necessary timing in order to output an image with higher accuracy image quality (S7 <<S).
[0075]
As described above, the “high image quality mode” in the present embodiment is a mode in which even a long waiting time is provided to a user who needs an image with high precision image quality.
[0076]
FIGS. 11 and 12 are diagrams showing the operation timings of the present embodiment. FIG. 11 shows a state in which “high image quality mode” is set, and FIG. 12 shows a state in which “high speed print mode” is set. 2 shows the timing of the calibration executed.
[0077]
In FIG. 11, similarly to the first and second embodiments, the execution during the continuous printing operation when there are four types of calibrations (

In the “high image quality mode”, the threshold value is set to a value S7 (S7 << S) smaller than usual in the flowchart shown in FIG. Accordingly, each calibration is executed at a necessary timing, so that an image with high precision image quality can be obtained.
[0079]
As described above, by executing the calibration at a necessary timing in advance during the continuous printing, it is possible to output an image with high precision image quality.
[0080]
The “high-speed print mode” in FIG. 12 is a mode provided to a user who needs to reduce the waiting time before printing rather than the image quality. FIG. 12 shows the timing of the calibration of the same type as in FIG. 11 and the calibration executed during continuous printing when the “high-speed print mode” is set with the required number of pages.
[0081]
In the "high-speed printing mode", the threshold value is set to a value S6 (S6 >> S) larger than usual in the flowchart shown in FIG. Assuming that the execution condition of the
[0082]
Then, each time any of the calibration conditions is satisfied, the comparison with the threshold is sequentially performed. As a result, as shown in FIG. 12, it is possible to greatly reduce the number of temporary stoppages of the print operation for obtaining the required number L of printed pages with high-accuracy image quality, and significantly reduce downtime due to calibration. can do.
[0083]
As described above, by setting the threshold value S in the flowchart shown in FIG. 8 to a value larger than usual, it is possible to greatly reduce downtime due to calibration.
[0084]
According to the present embodiment, it is possible to obtain the timing for executing the calibration according to the image quality required by the user and the time until printing.
[0085]
In each of the above-described embodiments, the color shift correction control, the density correction control, and the chromaticity correction control have been described as the calibration. However, if a plurality of correction controls are performed during continuous printing, the color shift correction is performed. The control, the density correction control, and the chromaticity correction control need not be performed, but may be another correction control. Further, the number of correction controls does not matter.
[0086]
Further, although the latent image forming medium is a photosensitive drum, a belt-like photosensitive member may be suspended and driven by a driving roller.
[0087]
Further, the control target (count, threshold value) is determined based on the number of pages, but may be determined based on the number of prints or the cumulative length of printed paper. Further, the timing at which the calibration is executed for each color may be determined for the pixel count for each color.
[0088]
The embodiments of the present invention have been described above, but the present invention can be configured as follows.
[0089]
(1) a plurality of image forming units each having an optical unit and a latent image forming medium, a transferring unit for transferring each image formed on the latent image forming medium onto a recording material, and an image quality of the formed image A plurality of correction control means for improving the correction, the correction of the plurality of correction control means simultaneously at a timing different from the execution timing under predetermined conditions for executing each correction of the plurality of correction control means Execute.
[0090]
(2) In the above (1), there are provided a plurality of transfer means for transferring an image onto an endless belt sequentially passing through each image forming section of the plurality of image forming means.
[0091]
(3) In the above (1), a plurality of transfer means for transferring an image onto a recording material conveyed while being held on an endless belt sequentially passing through each image forming portion of the plurality of image forming means is provided. To be.
[0092]
(4) In the above (3), the plurality of correction control means include a pattern forming means for forming a color shift detection pattern on the endless belt, and a color shift detection for detecting the formed color shift detection pattern. Means and a color shift correction control means for correcting the color shift of each color from the detection result of the color shift detection pattern.
[0093]
(5) In the above (3), the plurality of correction control means include: a pattern forming means for forming a density detection pattern on the endless belt; a density detection means for detecting the formed density detection pattern; A density correction control means for correcting the density of each color from the detection result of the density detection pattern is included.
[0094]
(6) In the above (3), the plurality of correction control means include a pattern forming means for forming a chromaticity detecting pattern on the endless upper belt, and a chromaticity detecting means for detecting the formed chromaticity detecting pattern. Means and a chromaticity correction control means for correcting and optimizing the chromaticity of each color from the detection result of the chromaticity detection pattern.
[0095]
(7) In any one of the above (1) to (6), the timing of executing the correction by the correction control means is different from a predetermined condition only when there is another correction control within arbitrary pages before and after. Correction control by a plurality of correction control means is executed simultaneously.
[0096]
(8) In any one of the above (1) to (7), the timing different from the predetermined condition is the execution timing of the correction control by another correction control means.
[0097]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, when performing calibration during continuous printing, the plurality of correction control units perform the corrections at different timings from execution timings under predetermined conditions. By simultaneously executing the corrections by the correction control means, it is possible to reduce downtime due to calibration during continuous printing while maintaining a high-precision image quality.
