Abstract
Description
【0001】

2. Description of the Related Art Some image forming apparatuses such as a copying machine, a printer, and a facsimile are configured to be able to form an image on both sides of a recording medium (hereinafter, referred to as paper). In a conventional image forming apparatus capable of recording on both sides, an image (visible image) on one side formed on an image carrier is transferred and fixed on a sheet, the sheet is inverted by an inversion path or the like, and fed again. In general, a method of transferring and fixing an image (visible image) on the other side to the back side of a sheet is used.
[0003]
In the case of double-sided recording by this method, there are many problems in securing the reliability of paper conveyance due to switching of the paper conveyance direction, paper curl due to fixing of a single-sided image, and the like.
On the other hand, there has been proposed a system in which a toner image is transferred onto both sides of a sheet in one pass (hereinafter, referred to as a one-pass double-side system).
[0004]
FIG. 15 shows an example of a conventional one-pass double-sided image forming apparatus provided with two intermediate transfer members, and is a schematic configuration diagram near an image forming unit. In the printer of the present embodiment, the tertiary transfer means provided conventionally outside the second intermediate transfer member (second intermediate transfer belt 20) is set inside the first intermediate transfer member (first intermediate transfer belt 10). This makes it possible to use a contact-type transfer unit (for example, the transfer roller 14). For this reason, all of the transfer means from the primary transfer to the tertiary transfer can be contact type transfer means, and no discharge product is generated unlike the transfer charger which is a non-contact type transfer means. As in the second embodiment, when a charge having the same polarity as that of the toner is applied to the secondary and tertiary transfer units to perform transfer by a repulsive force, the transfer is more efficient than suction transfer with charge of the opposite polarity to the toner. It can be carried out.

Also in the second embodiment, the contact type transfer unit (for example, the transfer roller 24) can be provided by installing the tertiary transfer unit inside the second intermediate transfer body (the second intermediate transfer belt 20). became. In each of the above embodiments, the conductive roller (13, 25 or 14, 24) provided opposite to the transfer roller (14, 24 or 13, 25) is used as the ground roller. It may be configured to apply a charge having a polarity opposite to the bias.
[0063]
For example, in the case of the first embodiment (suction transfer) in which a transfer bias having the same polarity as the toner is applied to the transfer roller, a charge having a polarity opposite to that of the toner is applied to the opposing roller. In the second embodiment (repulsion transfer) in which a transfer bias having a polarity opposite to that of the toner is applied to the transfer roller, a charge having the same polarity as the toner is applied to the opposing roller. By doing so, the transfer electric field can be increased and the transfer efficiency can be improved.
[0064]
In addition, as a power supply for applying charges to the transfer roller and the opposing roller, there is a configuration in which a single power supply can apply charges of different polarities, and by using such a power supply, a transfer bias and a transfer bias are applied to each opposing roller. Even when charges of opposite polarity are applied, an increase in space and cost due to the provision of a plurality of power supplies can be suppressed.
[0065]
By the way, in the configuration example shown in FIG. 1, the transfer roller and the roller facing the transfer roller are respectively arranged substantially horizontally (pressed across the first and second intermediate transfer belts) and shown in FIG. As described above, the straight line S connecting the pair of transfer rollers and the axis of the opposing roller and the sheet transport direction P (the belt moving direction in the area where the first and second intermediate transfer belts move in an overlapping state; (Considered almost vertical direction) was 90 degrees.
[0066]
On the other hand, in one set of the transfer roller and the opposing roller, the transfer roller and the opposing roller are arranged with their axes shifted slightly so as to overlap with each other in a direction orthogonal to the sheet conveying direction (first and second intermediate transfer). Pressure contact with a belt in between). In that case, the length of the transfer nip formed by the transfer roller and the opposing roller is increased, so that transferability can be improved.
[0067]
When the transfer roller and the opposing roller have an overlap, there are two arrangement methods, an arrangement in which the opposing roller is higher than the transfer roller and an arrangement in which the opposing roller is lower than the transfer roller. 4 to 7 show examples of combinations of the arrangement of the rollers in the rollers.
[0068]
That is, in the apparatus shown in FIG. 4, the opposing

FIG. 5 shows an example in which the opposing
[0070]
It is preferable that the angle θ between the straight line S connecting the pair of transfer rollers and the axis of the opposing roller and the sheet conveying direction P be within a range of 90 ± 30 degrees. If the angle θ is too large, image deviation or the like may occur due to meandering of the sheet or belt during conveyance.
[0071]
Here, in the case of the configuration examples in FIGS. 4 to 7, the angle θ includes an obtuse angle θ1 on the transfer roller side and an acute angle θ2 on the opposing roller side, but since the relationship is 180 degrees−θ1 = θ2, If θ1 is in the range of 90 ± 30 degrees, θ2 is also in the range of 90 ± 30 degrees at the same time. Therefore, which is the angle θ between the straight line S connecting the axis of the transfer roller and the opposing roller and the paper transport direction P It does not matter.
[0072]
Also in the case of the configuration examples of FIGS. 4 to 7, each opposing roller can apply an electric charge having a polarity opposite to that of the earth roller or the transfer bias.

If the distance between the transfer roller and the opposing roller (an earth roller or a roller to which a polarity opposite to the transfer bias is applied) is too short within the loop of the transfer belt, a transfer current flows to the opposing roller via the belt, and the transfer efficiency deteriorates. In the case of a configuration in which the transfer roller and the opposing roller are overlapped to increase the transfer nip as in the configuration examples of FIGS. 4 to 7, the distance between the rollers in the same belt loop (in this example, If the distance between the upper and lower rollers is too large, there is a disadvantage in maintaining the nip.
[0079]
However, by arranging the rollers in the belt loop at a distance of 5 mm or more and 200 mm or less, preferably 10 mm or more and 100 mm or less on the outer peripheral surface as described above, a decrease in transfer efficiency or a decrease in nip maintenance can be prevented. be able to.

Further, as a power source for applying a charge to each transfer roller and each opposing roller, the same power source as in the first and second embodiments can be used.
[0114]
Further, the angle θ between the straight line S connecting each transfer roller and the axis of the opposing roller and the paper transport direction P is 90 degrees as shown in FIG. 3, and in FIGS. As described in 7, the transfer roller and the opposing roller may be arranged so as to overlap.
[0115]
In addition, it is preferable that the secondary transfer roller and the tertiary transfer roller are provided at positions separated by 5 mm or more, preferably 10 mm or more on the outer peripheral surface, because interference of the transfer electric field can be more reliably prevented.

In addition, both of a pair of rollers disposed opposite to each other may be transfer rollers (rollers to which a transfer bias is applied). In this case, when one roller is used as a transfer roller, the other roller is grounded (no transfer bias is applied). Conversely, when the other roller is used as a transfer roller, one roller is grounded (transfer bias). Is not applied). By doing so, it is possible to perform transfer using two secondary transfer units or two tertiary transfer units, and it is possible to enhance transferability. Even when two transfer rollers are arranged in the same belt, they are arranged so that they are separated from each other at a distance of 5 mm or more and 200 mm or less, preferably 10 mm or more and 100 mm or less on the outer peripheral surface.
