Abstract
Description

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image carrier, an image forming apparatus for forming a toner image on the image carrier, and a transfer device for transferring the toner image formed on the image carrier to a recording medium. The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus, wherein one or more of the image carrier and the image forming apparatus are configured as an image forming unit detachable from an image forming apparatus main body.
[0002]
[Prior art]
An image forming apparatus of the above type configured as a copier, a printer, a facsimile, or a multifunction machine having at least two of these functions has been conventionally known. In this type of image forming apparatus, one or more of the image carrier and the image forming apparatus are configured as an image forming unit that is detachable from the image forming apparatus main body. In addition to a service person who specializes in maintenance of the image carrier, even a general user can easily perform inspection, repair, or replacement of the image carrier and the image forming apparatus.
[0003]
However, even though the operation is easy, if an unskilled user attaches or detaches the image forming unit, the image forming unit is brought into contact with the transfer device or rubbed to scratch parts that do not need to be replaced. Therefore, there is a risk of shortening the service life.
[0004]
Therefore, an image forming apparatus has been proposed in which the transfer device is configured to be able to be separated from the image forming unit, and the image forming unit is configured to be detachable after the both are largely separated (for example, see Patent Document 1). However, if the transfer device is configured to be largely separated from the image forming unit, a large space in which the two can relatively move must be secured in the main body of the image forming apparatus. I can't escape.
[0005]
Note that an image forming apparatus in which elements in the image forming apparatus main body can be attached to and detached from the image forming apparatus main body has been conventionally known, as described in, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. H10-163,036.
