Description

【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an external electrode type fluorescent lamp used for a backlight or the like of a liquid crystal display device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The external electrode type fluorescent lamp is provided with electrodes outside both ends of a glass tube, and is used as a backlight of a liquid crystal display device. FIG. 5 is a sectional view schematically showing the configuration of the external electrode type fluorescent lamp 10. As shown in FIG.
[0003]
In FIG. 1, reference numeral 11 denotes a glass tube, inside which a phosphor layer 12 is provided, and an Ar / Ne mixed gas and mercury (Hg) are sealed therein as a sealing gas 13. An aluminum tape is wound around the glass tube 11 as an external electrode 14 at both ends, and an external lead wire 15 such as nickel (Ni) is connected to the external electrode 14 by solder 16.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, in the conventional external electrode type fluorescent lamp as described above, there is a problem that the ions of the sealed gas component collide with the inner surface of the glass tube on the back side of the external electrode, and the glass tube in that portion is damaged. . As this damage progresses, the glass tube may eventually break and break. Further, the damage to the glass tube is likely to progress at the tip portion on the discharge space side where the current density is high.
[0005]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems, and the glass tube at the electrode portion is less damaged even when the lamp is turned on for a long time, and the hole is formed in the glass tube even when the input power is increased to increase the amount of light. An object of the present invention is to provide an external electrode type fluorescent lamp that is difficult to open and has a long life and is excellent in quality.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The external electrode type fluorescent lamp according to the present invention is configured as follows.
[0007]
(1) In an external electrode type fluorescent lamp having electrodes outside both ends of a glass tube, at least a portion of an inner surface of an end portion of the glass tube corresponding to a tip of the electrode on a discharge space side has a predetermined width. An insulating layer was provided.
[0008]
(2) The insulating layer is formed as an insulating film made of an insulating material.
[0009]
(3) The thickness of the insulating layer is increased at the end of the glass tube.
[0010]
(4) The insulating layer was provided within a range of 20 mm from the tip of the electrode toward the discharge space.
[0011]
(5) The insulating layer was formed so as to become thinner toward the end of the glass tube.
[0012]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Since the fluorescent lamp of the embodiment is symmetrical in the left and right directions, only one half is shown in the drawing. The basic configuration is the same as that of the conventional example shown in FIG.
[0013]
FIG. 1 is a sectional view showing the structure of the first embodiment of the present invention. In FIG. 1, reference numeral 1 denotes a glass tube having a fluorescent layer and a sealing gas therein, 2 denotes an external electrode provided outside both ends of the glass tube 1, and 3 denotes at least an external electrode 2 on the inner surface of the end of the glass tube 1. Is an insulating layer provided with a predetermined width at a portion corresponding to the inner front end of the insulating layer.
[0014]
The insulating layer 3 is formed as an insulating film made of an insulating material such as an oxide, frit glass, or ceramic, and is provided within a range of 20 mm from the tip of the external electrode 2 toward the discharge space.
[0015]
In addition, the external electrode 2 can be formed of ITO or the like in addition to the conductive adhesive, and can be formed as a metal film by a vapor deposition method, an ion plating method, or the like, and covers the end of the glass tube 1. It is good.
[0016]
The configuration of the above-described embodiment takes measures against the above-described glass tube damage (cracks, etc.) due to the concentration of discharge at the electrode tip. That is, even when the external electrode has a predetermined area, the current density is high at the electrode tip, and the glass tube at the electrode tip is preferentially broken. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the impedance of the electrode portion and reduce the current density at the electrode tip portion.
[0017]
In this embodiment, due to the above configuration, even if the lamp is turned on for a long time, the glass tube 1 at the electrode portion is hardly damaged. An external electrode type fluorescent lamp with excellent quality can be realized.
[0018]
FIG. 2 is a sectional view showing the configuration of the second embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the insulating layer 3 is formed inside the glass tube from a range of 20 mm or less in the direction of the discharge space from the inner end of the external electrode 2 to the middle of the electrode portion. The configuration of the insulating layer 3 is the same as that of the first embodiment.
[0019]
FIG. 3 is a sectional view showing the configuration of the third embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the insulating layer 3 is formed as a thick portion 4 in which the thickness of the end of the glass tube 1 is increased. This thick portion 4 is obtained by increasing the thickness of the glass of at least a part of the electrode portion from the range of 20 mm or less in the discharge space direction from the tip of the electrode portion to the inside (range of 0.2 mm to 0.8 mm).
[0020]
Here, the portion having a length of 20 mm or more is almost a positive column portion, and there is almost no impact due to collision of the sealed gas ions with the glass tube 1.
[0021]
FIG. 4 is a sectional view showing the configuration of the fourth embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the insulating layer 3 is formed so as to become thinner toward the end of the glass tube 1. That is, the impedance of a necessary portion of the electrode portion is increased.
[0022]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, even if the lamp is turned on for a long time, the glass tube at the electrode portion is less damaged. It will be of excellent quality.
