働いている独身子女は、自己のマンションあるいは住宅を購入することにより、親から干渉を受けず、自分のライフスタイルに合った生活を営むことができるものの、親が特に高齢者となると、親との同居が現実化することになる。しかし仕事をもっているため、留守がちとなり、その結果訪問介護等昨今の福祉行政制度の利用も満足にできないこととなる。さらに、防犯面からも問題で、現状の住宅では対応していないといえる。
