Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assure a reliable grounding contact for an external metal member extending to a long period of time by arranging a solder coated cover on one of both side surfaces of a glass stopper, and conductively wrapping one of pins among from a specified number of metal pins by a cover member. SOLUTION: Two metal pins 1 and 2 are enclosed in a glass stopper 3.1. At both, top and bottom sides of the glass stopper 3.1, the two pins 1 and 2 extend exceeding the glass stopper 3.1. In this case, the exceeding degree is larger for the lower side than the upper side. The glass stopper 3.1 is wrapped by a sleeve 6. Then, a cover member 3.2 is enclosed in the glass stopper 3.1 together with the two pins 1 and 2. Then, one pin 1 of the two pins 1 and 2 is conductively wrapped by the cover member 3.2. Thus, a conductive connection is generated between the metal pin 1 and the sleeve 6. By this constitution, a reliable grounding contact to the external metal member can be assured extending to a long period of time.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to glass-to-metal leadthroughs. This term refers to hermetically sealing the glass in metal. This metal is an electrical conductor. Such threading is widely used in electronics and electrical engineering. In this case, the glass used for sealing constitutes an insulator. A typical glass-through is made as follows: an inner metal conductor is sealed in a pre-formed sintered glass member, and the sintered glass member is sealed in an outer metal part. Such a glass-metal threader is used, for example, in an ignition device. Such an ignition device is used for an air bag or a seat belt of a motor vehicle. In this case, the glass-metal lead-through is a component of the ignition device. The igniter further comprises, in addition to a glass-to-metal loop, an ignition bridge, an explosive material, and a metal cover that tightly surrounds the ignition mechanism. Here, threading plays an important role. It is necessary to insulate the voltage generated by one or two pins into the housing in an insulating manner. Known glass-to-metal loops are constructed as follows. A glassed pin is used as a ground wire by conductive epoxy or conductive adhesive. In this way, the pins create the necessary connection with the metal housing. Such an embodiment is very complicated and expensive to manufacture. A more serious problem is that the ground contact cannot be reliably adjusted with respect to the outer housing. This has serious consequences for use in airbags or seatbelts as described above.

This problem is solved by the structure described in claim 1. According to this, a solder-coated cover is provided and arranged on one of the two side surfaces of the glass stopper, and conductively surrounds one of the two metal pins. Such a solder-coated cover member is introduced into a fusion mold when the member is assembled. A reliable ground contact to the outer metal part is ensured by this cover member. This cover member should be introduced in the glazing process. Glass according to the invention
Metal threading is perfect in its operation. Metallic components that are geometrically complex and therefore costly are not required. No later process is required, for example, when the purchaser later incorporates the glass-metal unit into a corresponding device, for example, an ignition device.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. The ignition cap shown in FIG. 1 includes two metal pins 1 and 2 as a plug connector, a glass thread 3, an ignition assembly 4, a cover 5, and a sleeve 6. In the glass-metal lead-through according to the invention according to FIG.
There are book metal pins. These are glass stoppers 3.1
Sealed inside. On both the upper and lower sides of the glass stopper 3.1, the two pins extend beyond the stopper, but the degree is greater at the lower part than at the upper part. These two
The pins of the book serve as plug connectors. The glass stopper is surrounded by a sleeve 6. The cover member 3.2 is the most important element in the present invention. It is sealed together with two pins 1 and 2 in a glass stopper. This creates a conductive connection between the metal pin 1 and the sleeve 6. For pin 2, there is no conductive connection. FIG. 3 shows a conventional example, and FIG.
The metal pin of the book, the glass stopper 3.1 and the sleeve 6 are visible. However, here the cover plate 3.2 is not present. FIG. 4 also shows a known example. There is no cover member here either. Only the metal pin 1 is sealed in the glass stopper.
