- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.アンモニア(78)を受取りかつ少なくともその成分をエンジン(12)の 排気ガス(92)の流れ内に注入するための装置における改良であって、 前記アンモニアを活性化して、前記活性化されたアンモニアを前記排気ガスの 流れ内に注入するのに先立って、その少なくとも一部分をアンモニア成分に分解 するための手段(130、150、164、166、232)を含む、改良。 2.前記活性化するための手段は、前記排気ガスの流れ内に位置するよう構築さ れて前記排気ガスによって加熱される本体(140、150)を含み、前記本体 は、各々が1mm2以下の断面積を有してそれを通じて流れるアンモニアを加熱 する、複数のアンモニア搬送通路を有する、請求項1に記載の改良。 3.前記本体は、アンモニアに触媒作用を及ぼしてそれを分解する材料を含む、 請求項2に記載の改良。 4.前記活性化するための手段は、各々が1mm2より小さい断面積を有する複 数のアンモニア搬送通路、および、前記本体を加熱するようそれに結合された電 動ヒータ(146)を有する本体(140、150)を含む、請求項1に記載の 改良。 5.前記活性化するための手段は、微細通路を形成する焼結された粒子の本体( 150)を含み、前記本体は前記排気ガスによって加熱されるように位置付けら れる、請求項1に記載の改良。 6.空気中の炭化水素を燃焼して作動するための手段(50、64)を含み、前 記手段はまた酸化窒素を含む排気ガス(92)の流れを生成し、エンジンは排気 ガスが大気中に排出される前にそれを通じて流れる排気導管(16)を有する、 エンジン(12)における改良であって、 アンモニアのソース(32、246)と、 前記ソースに結合されてそれからアンモニアを受取りかつそれを前記排気ガス 導管内に注入するための注入器装置(30、230)とを含み、 前記注入器装置は、注入器(90、130、150、160、250)が前記 排気導管内に位置付けられるアンモニア搬送導管(36)を含み、前記注入器は 前記アンモニアがそれを通じて前記排気ガスの流れ内に注入される複数の間隔を おいて配された出口開口部(94、136)を有する、改良。 7.前記アンモニアが前記ソースから出た後に前記排気導管内へと注入される前 に、前記アンモニアを加熱しかつそれを触媒作用を及ぼす材料(140)に通し て、アンモニアを活性化させるための手段(130、150)を含む、請求項6 に記載のエンジン。 8.前記注入部分は、複数の通路部分を有する本体(140、150)を含み、 複数の通路部分は、前記排気導管内に位置付けられ、その各々は1mm以下の厚 さおよびその平均厚さの10倍より長い長さを有し、よって、前記本体は排気ガ スによって加熱され、今度は、前記通路部分を通じて移動するアンモニアを加熱 して前記アンモニアを活性化させる、請求項6に記載のエンジン。 9.前記燃焼するための手段は、燃料注入弁(60)と、前記炭化水素を前記空 気内に注入して燃焼するための燃料と空気の混合物を生成するように位置付けら れた注入器(130、150、160)と、その持続期間が、前記空気内に注入 される燃料の平均流量を少なくとも部分的に決定する、電流(170)を生成す る燃料注入器電子回路(172)とを含む、請求項6に記載のエンジンにおける 改良であって、 前記注入器と、燃料注入器電子回路および前記バルブに結合されて、前記電流 の平均持続時間が増加および減少するにつれ前記排気導管内に前記注入器によっ て注入されるアンモニアの流量をそれぞれ増加および減少させるように前記バル ブの動作を制御する制御部(180)とを有する、アンモニア注入装置(30) を含む、改良。 10.前記注入器は微細通路を形成する焼結された粒子の本体(150)を含む 、請求項6に記載のエンジン。 11.空気の存在下で炭化水素を燃焼しかつ排気ガスの流れを生成する、エンジ ンの排気ガス内の酸化窒素を減少するための方法であって、 ソース(32、246)からのアンモニアを注入器(90、130、150、 160、250)へと送って前記注入器からのアンモニアの少なくとも成分を排 気ガスの前記流れ内に注入するステップと、 前記アンモニアを前記排気ガスの流れ内に注入する前に前記アンモニアを活性 化するステップとを含む、方法。 12.前記活性化するステップは、少なくとも1つの長い通路を形成する通路壁 部を有する本体(90、130、150、160)を、前記排気ガスの流れ内に 位置付けて、前記排気ガスの熱が前記通路壁部を加熱するようにし、かつ、前記 アンモニアを前記排気ガスの流れ内に注入するのに先だって、前記アンモニアを 前記少なくとも1つの通路を通じて送って、前記通路壁部が前記アンモニアを少 なくとも500°Fに加熱するようにするステップを含む、請求項10に記載の 方法。 13.前記活性化するステップは、アンモニアを前記排気ガスの流れ内に注入し て10秒以内に、前記アンモニアを活性化してそのアンモニアの10%以上を、 NH2およびNHならびに水素に分解するステップを含む、請求項10に記載の 方法。 14.前記活性化するステップは、前記注入するステップに先立って、触媒の存 在下で前記アンモニアを加熱するステップを含む、請求項11に記載の方法。 15.空気の存在下で炭化水素を燃焼して排気ガス(92)の流れを生成するエ ンジン(12)の排気ガス内の酸化窒素を減じるための方法であって、 ソース(32、246)からのアンモニア(178)を注入器(90、130 、150、160)に送って前記注入器からのアンモニアの少なくとも成分を含 むガスを前記排気ガスの流れ内に注入するステップを含み、 前記ガスを注入するステップは、前記排気ガスの流れ内に間隔をおかれた位置 に存在する複数のポート(94、136)からガスを注入するステップを含む、 方法。 16.前記注入するステップの前に触媒の存在下で少なくとも500°Fの温度 に前記アンモニアを加熱するステップを含む、請求項15に記載の方法。 17.炭化水素燃料を空気のかたまり内に注入してそれらを燃焼して作業し、か つ、酸化窒素を含む排気ガスの流れを生成するよう位置付けられた燃料注入器装 置(60、172)を有するエンジン(12)であって、該エンジンは前記排気 ガスの流れが環境内に排出される前にそれを通じて流れる排気導管(16)を有 し、前記燃料注入器装置は、その時間期間が、前記空気のかたまり内に注入され る燃料の平均流量を少なくとも部分的に決定する、電流(170)を生成する燃 料注入器電子回路(172)を含む、エンジン(12)における改良であって、 前記排気導管に結合されてアンモニアを前記排気ガスの流れ内に注入する注入 器(96、130、150、160)と、前記燃料注入器電子回路に結合されて 、前記電流の平均時間期間が増加および減少するにつれて前記排気導管内への前 記注入器によって注入されるアンモニアの流量をそれぞれ増加および減少するよ うに前記注入器装置の動作を制御する回路(180)とを含む、アンモニア注入 装置(30)を含む、改良。 18.前記アンモニア注入装置は、加圧アンモニアのソース(32)と、電動バ ルブ(72)と、前記ソースから前記バルブを通じて前記注入器に延びるアンモ ニア搬送通路(36)を形成する壁部とを含み、 前記制御部は、各々の持続期間が前記燃料注入器電子回路によって生成される 前記電流の1より大きい予め定められた倍数である制御信号(182)と、前記 制御信号を前記バルブに搬送してそれを前記制御信号のうち1つの時間期間に等 しい時間期間だけ開放する導電体(74)とを含む、請求項17に記載のエンジ ン。 19.電動バルブ(72)を通じたエンジン(16)の排気ガス導管内へのアン モニアの注入を制御するための方法であって、前記エンジンは燃料注入器(66 )と、時間単位当りのその平均持続時間が前記燃料注入器を通じる燃料の流量を 決定する、燃料注入制御電流(170)を生成する燃料注入器電子回路(172 )とを含み、前記方法は、 前記燃料注入制御電流(182)を使用して、前記注入制御電流の単位時間当 りの持続時間にほぼ比例する流量で前記バルブを通じてアンモニアが流れるよう に前記バルブ(72)の開口を制御するステップを含む、方法。
