【請求項２】上記ドキュメント供給源がプリンタを含む請求項１に記載の暗号方法。

【請求項４】消費者が支払い時に所有者からドキュメントを取得することを可能にする公正な交換方法であって、(a)消費者が指定されたドキュメントを要求するステップと、(b)所有者がドキュメント源にキーの第１の部分を提供するステップと、(c)消費者が所有者に支払いをするステップと、(d)所有者が、キーの第１部分と結合して、ドキュメントを印刷させる完全なキーを生成することができるキーの第２の部分をドキュメント源に提供するステップと、を含む、交換方法。
【請求項５】消費者が支払い時に所有者からドキュメントを取得することを可能にするのに使用されるプリンタであって、第１の暗号キー部分を格納するメモリと、第２の暗号キー部分を受け取る手段と、上記第１および上記第２の暗号キー部分によって規定される暗号キーに従って、プリンタへ伝送された暗号化されたドキュメントを解読する手段と、を備え、上記ドキュメントの多数のコピーをそれぞれの複数の形式で印刷するように構成されたプリンタ。
【請求項６】上記ドキュメントのただ１つのコピーを第１形式で、および上記ドキュメントの無制限の数のコピーを第２形式で印刷するように構成された、請求項５に記載のプリンタ。
【請求項７】上記形式は異なる解像度をもつ、請求項５に記載のプリンタ。
【請求項８】上記形式は、単色およびカラー画像を含む、請求項５に記載のプリンタ。
