La presente invenzione si riferisce in generale ai motori alternativi che necessitano di un comando di distribuzione che regoli l'apertura e chiusura delle valvole . In particolare l'invenzione riguarda il comando di una valvola unica che consente l'introduzione nel cilindro della miscela e poi l'espulsione dei gas combusti. La valvola ha una luce di passaggio dei gas, praticata sul suo mantello, che permette: il riempimento del cilindro quando essa trovasi in corrispondenza del collettore di aspirazione, lo svuotamento del cilindro quando trovasi in corrispondenza del collettore di scarico e la combustione della carica quando trovasi in corrispondenza della candela di accensione. Questa valvola, avendo una sola luce di passaggio dei gas deve compiere un giro completo per ogni ciclo di funzionamento. Essa compirà dunque un giro per ogni giro del motore nel caso di ciclo a due tempi e un giro ogni due giri nei motori a quattro tempi. I vantaggi di questo tipo di funzionamento sono molteplici e vanno dalla notevole riduzione di pezzi con benefìci sui costi di produzione, sugli ingombri, sul rendimento volumetrico del motore, sulla facilità di messa in fase della distribuzione, sulla silenziosità di funzionamento e sull'evitato pericolo di sfasamento del comando che nei motori attuali comporta il dannoso urto tra valvole e stantuffi.. Con questo sistema in caso di mancato funzionamento del dispositivo si ha l'arresto del motore senza ulteriori gravosi danni.
