Description
DESCRIZIONE dell'invenzione industriale dal titolo: "INCHIOSTRO CON PROLUNGATO "CAP-OFF-TIME", E PROCEDIMENTO PER LA SUA PRODUZIONE" DESCRIPTION of the industrial invention entitled: "INK WITH PROLONGED" CAP-OFF-TIME ", AND PROCEDURE FOR ITS PRODUCTION"
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to an ink with extended "Cap-Off-Time" and a process for its production, in which case it is in particular an ink for writing, drawing, painting, printing or marking, which gives preferably permanent lines, ie water resistant.
Inks of this type are known, first of all also as marking liquids.
Thus "Marker inks" mostly comprise organic solvents such as alcohols or glycol ethers, solvent-soluble binders, surfactants, preferably fluorinated surfactants, and solvent-soluble dyes, for example solvent dyes or basic dyes. In this case, the basic dyes are optionally also lacquered with an acid resin or respectively binder.
In this case, glycols, such as 1,2-propylene glycol, are partly used as drying retardants for thinner line widths.
The main disadvantage of these markers is their limited "Cap-Off-Time", ie the time that a marking or writing instrument of this type can remain unclosed without drying out. Already after a relatively short time, most conventional instruments exhibit bad writing behavior with inks of this type or do not work at all or have to be reactivated with long writing or marking movements. After one day, at the latest after a few days, these instruments are dried in such a way that they can no longer be reactivated and are therefore completely unusable.
In JP-P / AS 6-47660, on the other hand, an ink with an increased "Cap-Off-Time" is described, which can be stored for a longer time without protection.
This ink is composed of a dye, an organic solvent, resin, decaglycerin and aolefin (alpha-olefin).
Olefin is the group name for acyclic and cyclic aliphatic hydrocarbons, with one or more reactive double bonds in the molecule. In the case of the α-olefins contained, the double bond is between the first and the second carbon atom and, due to its unsaturated character, it is very reactive.
In the case of this ink, the presence of α-olefins is disadvantageous, which can lead to the fact that the ink is not stable to storage in the face of reactions of the a-olefin with other components of the ink.
In addition, "permanent markers" or "permanent non dry markers" are also known, which must have a "Cap-Off-Time" of approximately 14 days. The "non-dry inks" contained therein contain for example n-propanol, n-butanol, 3-methyl-benzoic acid, water, toluene, nbutyl ester of acetic acid, propyl ester of propanoic acid, xylene and solvent dyes. A major disadvantage of these "nondry inks" lies in the fact that after a short time they exhibit writing difficulties and only regenerate themselves with use until a normal ink flow is set again.
Another disadvantage is to be seen in the poor wetting capacity of non-absorbent substrates, such as for example sheets, so that in the case of flat use, non-wet point-like positions are formed. Equally disadvantageous is the lack of color brilliance of the ink, which after drying becomes highly cloudy, mainly in the case of use on non-absorbent substrates. This is easily recognizable in the case of the sheets described and considered in transparency.
Furthermore, solvent inks for flat surfaces are known, in particular the so-called "White-Board-Marker", with pigments as dyes.
In such a case the pigments are joined with a binder as a carrier, such as polyvinyl butyral or nitrocellulose, to form a pigment preparation. In this case it is disadvantageous that these also have a "Cap-Off-Time", which is only low.
The aim of the invention is therefore to provide a non-aqueous ink or, respectively, a liquid for writing or for marking based on organic solvents, which has a high "Cap-Off-Time", that is to say which makes it possible for an instrument to writing or marking can remain unclosed even for a longer time without in this case the ink in the tip tip dries so strongly that the instrument becomes unusable.
For this reason, especially in the case of permanent inks, i.e. in the case of water-resistant inks, a good transparency and illuminating power of the lines must also be given, even after the coating has dried and in particular in the case of for use on non-absorbent surfaces and for coatings or transparent markings, for example on glass surfaces or on sheets for projection in daylight.
This task is solved with the characterizing measures of claim 1.
Preferred embodiments and advantageous improvements of the invention as well as some preferred methods for preparing inks of this type are included in the other claims.
"Extended Cap-Off -Time" means in the present connection that the ink in the writing or carry-over instrument does not dry out even in the case of prolonged storage with the writing tip not closed or respectively with the closing cover removed. The proposed ink must make it possible for the writing or other coating instrument to remain open for a prolonged time, preferably for several hours or days.
The ink must particularly be a non-aqueous ink for writing, drawing, painting, printing or marking, or a liquid for writing and marking respectively, which contains organic solvents, binders, drying retarders, dyes and possibly other additives.
According to the proposal, this ink must have a paraffin wax and / or a polyolefin wax insoluble in organic solvents as a drying retardant. In this case, it can also be particularly a polyethylene wax.
This paraffinic or polyolefin wax must or respectively can, before adding to the ink mixture, be present as aqueous wax dispersion, possibly also already dispersed in water and possibly a commercial product equipped with a stabilizing agent, and, or with the other additives, in which case the portion of wax or respectively of the solid substance can have 20 to 70% by weight, preferably 30 to 60% by weight or 35 to 50% by weight.
The paraffin used in the wax dispersion must preferably have a chain length of at least 17 carbon atoms, and the organic solvent an evaporation index of 15, preferably 16, in which case we start from diethyl ether = 1 as a comparison value .
In this case it must be a particular matter of an n-propanol, an i-propanol or an ethanol, or also a mixture consisting of i-propanol and n-propanol.
Any binder used, especially in the case of the use of basic dyes, must be an acid resin. In any case, the binder must be soluble in the organic solvent. As a solvent of this type, a phenol-formaldehyde resin, a fumaricocolophonic acid adduct, can preferably be used.
When no basic dye is used, no acid resin is also needed.
A water-insoluble dye or a water-insoluble pigment, or also a lacquerable water-soluble dye, which is lacquered with the binder, can advantageously be used as a dye.
Particularly suitable are solvent or basic dyes, in which case the basic dyes are lacquered or respectively can react with an acid resin when mixing in the ink.
Both the dye, as well as the binder possibly to be used, must preferably be dissolved in the organic solvent.
The dye can also advantageously be present already before the addition to the ink mixture as a liquid dye or as a color preparation dissolved in the organic solvent, preferably in n-propanol, in particular also as a commercial product.
As an additional dispersing aid, the ink may or must in particular also contain a 3-methylbenzoic acid. Particularly advantageous is when the ink does not contain any fluorinated surfactant, at best no surfactant.
As a mixture of inks it has proved advantageous that inks according to the proposal should preferably contain 60-95% by weight of organic solvents, 1-10% by weight of binders, 0.01-5% by weight of paraffin wax and, or polyolefin, 1-30% by weight of dyes, 0-8% by weight of a 3-methylbenzoic acid, 0.01-10% by weight of water and / or remaining additives.
For the preparation of the proposed inks, a first mixture (AB) must first be produced as a paraffin or polyolefin wax dispersion with 20 to 70% by weight of paraffin and / or polyolefin content (A) in water (B ), or it can be purchased as a commercial product.
In a (second) mixture (CDE) the ligand (C) and optionally the 3-methylbezoic acid (D) is mixed in the solvent (E) and dissolved therein.
The dye (F) is then added to this {second) mixture (CDE) and mixed thoroughly, until its solution, lacquer or complete dispersion.
Then the (first) mixture (AB) and the wax dispersion respectively are added and the same is thoroughly mixed.
To the (second) mixture (CDE) consisting of binder (C), solvent (E) and optionally 3-methylbenzoic acid (D), a coloring agent (F) can also be added, which is present primarily as a dye. solvent insoluble in water (FI) or as a basic dye soluble in water (F2) or as a preparation of pigments (F3X).
The color agent (F) may in the first place also be present as a water-insoluble solvent dye (Fi) dissolved in n-propanol (El) or as a water-soluble dye (F2) lacquered with the binder (C) in the form liquid or in pasty form, or it can be pre-dispersed as color pigments (F3) previously also in n-propanol (El), optionally, also as a commercial product.
According to a special feature of the process, the first mixture (AB) can have 0.01 to 5% by weight, preferably 0.1 to 0.5% by weight of wax (A) or respectively paraffin wax (Al) and , or polyethylene wax (A2), which was introduced into water (B) by dispersion.
The production of an ink according to the proposal can also take place in such a way that firstly 1 to 10% binder (C), preferably an acid resin, such as a fumaric acid-rosin adduct (Cl) or a phenol-formaldehyde resin (C2), is intimately mixed with the solvent (E) and with the color agent (F), and the wax dispersion (AB) is then mixed in this mixture (CEF).

In modo particolare sono presenti i seguenti vantaggi dell'invenzione. In particular, the following advantages of the invention are present.
In modo particolare sono presenti i seguenti vantaggi dell'invenzione: In particular, the following advantages of the invention are present:
a) "Cap-off-Time": il"Cap-off-Time" di penne con inchiostro solvente permanente è stato fortemente aumentato. Esso sta mediamente bene a 2-4 settimane. Time": the "Cap-off-Time" of permanent solvent ink pens has been greatly increased. It does well at 2-4 weeks on average. In this case the pens with the proposed ink write flawlessly in the first 14 days and are immediately usable in an unlimited way. On the other hand, in the case of pens according to the state of the art often already after 1.5 hours of storage outdoors they have writing difficulties, the ink flow here is adjusted, if it is adjusted, only again during the writing trend .
Con ciò i nuovi inchiostri sono idonei in maniera impeccabile anche per superfici non assorbenti e per l'impiego in trasparenza. b) Transparency of the lines: the lines of the new inks are transparent and bright even after drying, in contrast to the known inks. As a result, the new inks are also perfectly suitable for non-absorbent surfaces and for use in transparency.
Poiché i valori fisici, come ad esempio la densità e la viscosità, sono molto analoghi a fronte delle sostanze di contenuto, gli inchiostri proposti possono venire impiegati in modelli di marcatori e in strumenti di scrittura a stoppino del tutto regolari con il mantenimento del flusso di inchiostro usuale ed impeccabile. c) Other characteristics of the inks are also to be noted: the general characteristics of the inks of the new inks are oriented on those of known permanent solvent inks, i.e. they are suitable for the writing of a large number of bases and are correspondingly adhesive. Since the physical values, such as density and viscosity, are very similar with respect to the content substances, the proposed inks can be used in marker models and in completely regular wick writing instruments with the maintenance of the flow of usual and flawless ink.
The light fastness substantially corresponds to that of the known inks, usual on the market, and the shades of the color correspond in the broadest way to those of the "permanent inks" currently usual on the market.
To achieve a high "Cap-off-Time", preferably one proceeds in such a way that a dye (F) and a binder (C) are first dissolved in an organic solvent (E) and treated with a limited amount of a paraffin wax or polyolefin (AB) wax dispersion, respectively. In this case, the solvent used (E) may not dissolve the paraffinic or polyolefin wax (A).
By adding 3-methylbenzoic acid (D), the "Cap-off-Time" of the ink can be partially improved once again to a limited extent.
An ink according to the proposal substantially consists for example of the following components: 60-95% by weight of organic solvent, in which paraffin waxes or polyolefinic waxes, respectively, are not soluble, 1-10% by weight of binders soluble in organic solvents, 0 , 05-8% by weight of 3-raethylbenzoic acid (in which case this addition is not necessarily indispensable), 0.055% by weight of paraffin wax or polyolefin wax respectively (in which case this indication applies to a wax dispersion with about 35% by weight of aliquot of solid substance) - if this value varies, the content of the dispersion must also vary in the ink - and 1-30% by weight of dye, which is preferably soluble in solvents or is present as a pigment, which is "prepared", for use in solvent systems, on a solvent-soluble binder as a support.
In the case of the use of a paraffin wax dispersion in a pigmented ink, the "Cap-off-Time", just as in the case of use in a coloring ink, is increased. A marker with a regular alcohol pigment ink is dried after about 3 hours. The same ink, with the addition of the paraffin wax dispersion, on the other hand, can be stored open for about 2 days, possibly even longer. Certainly, possibly after a day, writing difficulties prove to be difficult, the marker at this point can still be regenerated very well, therefore made usable. Such a high "Cap-off-Time" of over 14 days, as is possible in the case of coloring inks, is however not given at the moment for pigmented inks. Therefore it needs a further modification of the wording.
In general it can be said that dyes for use in "Cap-off inks" according to current knowledge are better suited than pigments. The dyes are present dissolved in an ink, the pigments however in a solid, undissolved form. Pigmented inks thus always face the danger that the dye will decompose and thereby possibly add itself to the writing tip. Due to the loss of ink that appears in the case of the open stock of a pen, the solid pigment particles can settle earlier on the tip, the dyes concentrate in the writing tip on the other hand, the ink becomes "thicker" the content in dyes in the remaining solvent becomes higher, but no solid dye encrustation is formed in the first place.
It follows that pigments, which are currently available for use in solvent inks, are applied on a binder, on a "support". As binders are used mostly polyvinyl butyral, partly also nitrocellulose. The latter mentioned strongly increases the viscosity of an ink, so that pigments with polyvinyl butyral support seem better suited for inks of this type.
Polyvinyl butyral, when dissolved, is again very greasy and sticky. However, this greasy, fiber-pulling and sticky property of the resin also proves to be disadvantageous on the "cap-off behavior" of the ink, since in the event of solvent loss the writing tips can correspondingly be glued quickly. Furthermore, in order to stabilize a pigmented ink it is necessary, in addition to the "preparation of the pigments", to add other polyvinyl butyral. This increases the solid substance content of a sticky component and at the same time reduces the "cap-off characteristic". Furthermore, pigments such as solid colored bodies can somewhat aggravate the formation of a paraffin wax skin and thus not prevent the evaporation of the solvent in the periphery, as is the case with coloring inks. However, the pigments are suitable as color donors in "Cap-Off inks". As already shown, pigmented ink markers, to which a paraffin wax dispersion has been added, can lie open for about 48 hours, while regular ink markers are already dried after about 3 hours.
Di seguito, deve venire descritta la modalità di azione delle singole materie prime e venire illustrata il più esattamente la rinuncia ad una materia prima impiegata negli inchiostri regolari, a) Solvente (E): Below, the mode of action of the individual raw materials must be described and the renunciation of a raw material used in regular inks must be illustrated more precisely, a) Solvent (E):
For the "Cap-Off ink" a solvent (E) must be used, in which the paraffins or polyolefins, more precisely paraffin waxes or polyolefins, do not dissolve. More advantageously, a solvent with an evaporation index of about 16 should be preferred (in the case of diethyl ether = 1). If the evaporation index is higher, the drying time of the ink lines is correspondingly lengthened.
Particularly very suitable can be defined as n-propanol, in which the paraffin wax or polyolefin wax dispersion can be incorporated in a particularly good manner. Basically, and particularly recommendable, it is an aliquot of about 75-92% by weight of the solvent in the ink, depending on the quantitative addition in dye.
b) Legante (C): b) Binder (C):
Off". by adding a binder (C) the adhesion resistance of the Cap-Off "ink is improved on non-absorbent substrates. With the use of basic dyes, an acid resin must be used in a special way to lacquer the partially soluble dye in water in the ink and thus to be able to transform it into an insoluble state in water. In a preferred "Cap-Off ink" about 3-4% by weight of binder can be used. In this range a good adhesion of the lines is achieved ink on non-absorbent substrates at the same time with a non-negative influence of the "Cap-Off ink".
c) Coloranti (F): c) Dyes (F):
Correspondingly soluble dyes, such as solvent dyes or basic dyes, must be used for "Cap-Off ink" as a permanent solvent-based writing liquid. The basic dyes must in this case, as described in point b), be lacquered in order to be resistant to water. Solvent dyes which are preferably obtainable in the form of pastes, but without the addition of positioning agents, but possibly predissolved in npropanol for the best processing possibility and for setting the color, prove particularly suitable.
Especially the state of aggregate in paste form of the pure dye as well as the elimination of positional agents affects the "Cap-Off characteristic" when used in an ink, in this respect that complete crystallization of the dye is not possible here and of the position agent.
To reach a "Cap-off-Time" as high as possible, the content of dyes, first of all in the case of closed powdery ones, must be kept as limited as possible. The higher the dye content in an ink, the lower the "Cap-off-Time" becomes. This becomes clear if it can be established that black ink pens can be stored open for about 2-3 weeks, for example yellow ink pens can be stored well opened for four weeks.
The high dye content of the black ink also causes a shortening of the "Cap-off-Time".
d) Acido 3-metilbenzoico (D): d) 3-methylbenzoic acid (D):
It has been established that a paraffin wax dispersion can be more finely and stably introduced into a solvent, preferably n-propanal, if 3-methylbenzoic acid is previously added to the solvent. In this case, a concentration of 3-methylbenzoic acid of only about 0.2% by weight is possibly sufficient to already achieve an improvement in the "Capoff-Time" of an ink. However, 3-methylbenzoic acid must not be used forcibly in the ink, since very good "cap-off times" are achieved even without it.
e) Tensioattivo e) Surfactant
Il "tempo Cap-Off" dell'inchiostro viene altrimenti drasticamente ridotto. It has been established that no fluorinated surfactant should be employed in the "Cap-Off ink", as is usual in regular permanent solvent inks. The "Cap-Off time" of the ink is otherwise drastically reduced.
In this case, a natural rubber such as Gumgahtti (or even a surfactant) can be used as the dispersing agent.
Paraffins are aliphatic, saturated hydrocarbons and are also known under the name of alkanes. They are solid and of the waxy type starting from a chain length of 17 carbon atoms and are in this state called "hard paraffin" or also "paraffin wax". Paraffins with a molar mass greater than 1000 g / mol are already referred to as polyolefins (literature: Rompps Chemie-Lexikon "Paraffins"). For the "Cap-Off ink" dispersions of paraffin waxes and / or dispersions of polyolefin waxes can be used. A polyolefin wax is for example polyethylene (PE) with a molar mass of less than 10,000 g / mol, also referred to as LDPE. This low molecular weight PE, starting from its state, is of the waxy type.
Since with this a polyolefin wax and in particular a paraffin or long-chain paraffin wax (or hard paraffin), one speaks here in part or respectively in the following also only of paraffin wax, in which case however it is equally thought of together also possibly polyolefin wax.
In the case of a solid substance content of the paraffin dispersion of about 35%, approximately 0.4-0.5% paraffin dispersion should be used in the ink in the most advantageous case. In this way an ink with high "Cap-off-Time" is obtained, with at the same time limited drying time of the lines.
The ink, after addition of the dispersion, is cloudy. With time it forms an almost fine precipitate. By means of a filter with a pore size of 5 μm, the ink can be separated by filtration until it appears clear from behind.
The paraffin wax does not dissolve in the ink base, but is only finely divided into it. If a marker is filled with this ink according to the invention, a largely homogeneous mixture of the ink with the paraffin wax is found in the reservoir and in the tip. If a pen is now stored open, the paraffin wax, by forming a skin on the ink surface, prevents the strong evaporation of the solvent. This makes it possible in this way that a tapered tip marker can be stored open rather than just a few hours, well for 2-4 weeks. Only after this time, despite the paraffin wax layer, has so much solvent escaped that the pen dries. Since even with time, despite the addition of paraffin wax, limited quantities of solvent always evaporate, the ink of a pen stored open with time seems a little dark and more intense. After only short writing, the color tone compensates itself again.
It is now possible to use different concentrations of a paraffin wax dispersion in an ink. In this case it can basically be said that in the case of limited concentrations the "Cap-Off time" is lower than in the case of high concentrations of paraffin wax. However, if a large quantity of paraffin wax is used in the ink, the drying time of the ink lines increases in parallel with the "Cap-Off time" in the form that they remain sticky for a slightly longer period.
In order to achieve a necessary rapid drying time of the ink lines with a simultaneous good "Cap-Off time", an addition of about 0.4-0.5% by weight of a paraffin wax dispersion with the substance content is particularly favorable. solid by about 35%. Dispersions of paraffin wax with a deviant solid substance aliquot can vary correspondingly with regard to their quantitative addition.
If a liquid paraffin is used instead of a paraffin wax dispersion, an increase in the "Cap-Off time" is not observed. The liquid paraffin mixes with the solvent in an extraordinarily fine way. This is made possible by the limited chain length of liquid paraffins compared to hard paraffins. The mode of action of paraffins on the "Cap-Off time" is therefore drastically reduced.
If the writing instruments or respectively the pens after a too long open storage on the writing tip are a little dried at the writing tip - even if not completely - or respectively dried, they are regenerated again by means of storage with closed protection.
As has been shown, in the proposed "Cap-Off ink" no usual surfactant, especially any fluorinated surfactant, should be employed for permanent solvent inks. However, these surfactants give the inks a good wetting of flat surfaces. The wetting characteristics of the "Cap-Off inks" are for this reason possibly a little worse than in the case of regular inks. In a special way, in the case of affixing flat ink lines, in the "Cap-off ink" pinpoint positions, not wetted, may appear on the ink surface, which are clearly recognizable in transparency. In most applications, however, this effect does not appear.
