Abstract
Una corrente gassosa comprendente idrogeno solforato è bruciata parzialmente in un forno (2) per formare anidride solforosa e vapor d'acqua. Parte dell'anidride solforosa reagisce con parte dell'idrogeno solforato residuo per formare vapore di zolfo e vapor d'acqua. Vapore di zolfo è condensato dalla miscela gassosa risultante nel condensatore (14). Parte dell'idrogeno solforato nella miscela gassosa risultante è quindi bruciata in un secondo forno (16) per formare più anidride solforosa e vapor d'acqua. Parte dell'anidride solforosa reagisce con parte dell'idrogeno solforato residuo per formare ulteriore vapore di zolfo e vapor d'acqua. Vapore di zolfo è quindi condensato nel condensatore (26). Ossigeno per la combustione dell'idrogeno solforato è fornito da un impianto di separazione dell'aria. Azoto dal medesimo impianto di separazione dell'aria è impiegato ad una pressione di almeno due atmosfere per fornire raffreddamento per i condensatori (14) e (26) ed è in tal modo riscaldato. L'azoto riscaldato risultante è quindi espanso nella turbina (52) con esecuzione di lavoro esterno.
