Abstract

The 5-nitro-1-methyl-imidazolyl-3-terbutyl-2-hydroxy-5- methoxyphenol carbinol has marked antibacterial activity to Helicobacter pylori bacteria, and is therefore used in therapeutic compositions as a coadjuvent for the treatment of ulcers. The process for preparing this derivative provides for the following stages: a) reaction of 3-terbutyl-4-hydroxyanisole with a halide of alkyl magnesium bromide in order to obtain the corresponding Grignard reagent, b) reaction of the magnesium compound obtained in the previous stage with 5-nitro-1-methyl-2-formyl imidazole, c) hydrolysis of the magnesium group from the product obtained in b.
