Abstract
3,6'-Di-N-acyl-kanamycin A salts of formula (I) are new: Ac' = a N-protecting acyl gp. HA = an organic or mineral acid. Prodn. of amikacin precursors of formula (II) is effected by (a) reacting kanamycin A (III) with an Al salt in an aq. organic medium; (b) reacting the resulting Al complex with a reactive deriv. of Ac'OH; (c) opt. decomposing the Al complex in a basic medium; (d) adjusting the pH to 6 with an acid; and (e) treating the soln. with a reactive deriv. of an N-protected L(-)-4-amino -2-hydroxybutyric acid of formula (III).
