Abstract

An optical coupler for a twisted optical fibre and a photodiode has a cylindrical casing for the photodiode with an open end and a disc larger than the casing closing its other end, a tube shaped to fit over the casing with a coaxial tubular extension for the fibre, and a sleeve fitted over the extension to immobilise the fibre. A method of coupling a twisted optical fibre to a photodiode is also claimed. The sleeve is pref. filled with Silastic (RTM: heat-stable silicone).
