Abstract

Preparation of asymmetric esters of 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3' -nitrophenyl) -1,4-dihydro-3,5 -pyridine dicarboxylic acid (I), by transesterification of a symmetrical diester of the same acid (II) with an alcohol R1OH (III), an excess of (II) being used. R = alkyl, R1 = alkyl, but is different to R, or it is another type of group. Preparation of (I; R = CH3; R1 = N-benzyl-N-methyl) from (II; R = CH3), is specifically claimed.
