Abstract

The floating breakwater consists of a rigid structure which defines compartments which are open top and bottom in a direction normal to the surface of the water. The structure includes elongated beams (18) which are tubular in cross-section and are located below the surface of the water. Upwardly directed ribs (22) are attached to tubes and extend over their length to enclose the compartments horizontally at the surface of the water with the sides of the compartments across the structure out of parallel with each other over a large portion of their lengths. Buoyancy control chambers at water level are attached to the structure to ensure positive buoyancy of the structure.
