Abstract

Appts. or plant includes at least one inductor, and at least one electromagnet, which are connected to two autotransformers supplied with mains a.c. A variable capacitor is used to provide symmetrical currents, esp. from a 3-phase a.c. supply. The windings of the transformers are connected to different phases of the a.c. supply; and a tapping on each winding is used to supply electric current to the electromagnet via a switch. The inductor is connected to one phase of the mains a.c. and also to a tapping on one transformer. The result is that the inductor can be used alone as a furnace or, when both the inductor and the electromagnet are switched on, a pump is formed which can be used for dosing molten metal into foundry moulds.
