Abstract
The appts. comprises a filtering device, mechanisms for rotating and reciprocating the filtering device, and a device for discharging impurities from the filtering device. The filtering device includes top and bottom plates spaced from one another, the top plate being mounted on a hollow stem and the bottom plate being mounted on a solid stem extending through the hollow stem. A resilient member is supported by the solid stem and cooperates with the hollow stem to maintain the relative position of the plates. The end of the solid stem, remote from the bottom plate, carries an abutment cooperating with the resilient member and the end of the hollow stem carries an adjustable abutment adjoining the other abutment, the relative position of the two abutments defining the spacing of the plates. The appts. is useful for removing insoluble impurities from tin, lead and their alloys. The gap between the plates of the filter device can be adjusted easily and automatically to optimise the refining ability of the appts. and to facilitate discharge of impurities from the filter device.
