Abstract
Granulated additive used in the prodn. of photographic material with Ag halide (AgX) emulsion(s) consists of a homogeneous mixt. of 1-50 (wt.) % finely-divided photographic additive(s) (I), 1-80% finely-divided water-soluble dispersant(s) (II) for (I) and 1-50% solid, photographically inert, hydrophilic colloid (III) as binder for the granulate. Prepn. is added to an aq. colloidal casting formulation and allowed to dissolve, then the formulation is cast on a photographic substrate and dried. Process eliminates the need to use hazardous organic solvents and is suitable for the incorporation of water-insol. (I), esp. optically-sensitising dyestuffs, in emulsions of any photographic material, e.g. black-and-white camera films and films for graphic purposes, black-and-white papers, colour films and paper and X-ray films. The granulate disintegrates at a controlled rate, so that there is no pptn. or coagulation of the (I) dispersed in the formulation in this way.
